Damn.. Looking at the dates, W1 should very well be 12-14 so Stagecoach will be the last weekend of the month as usual. If it works out that way, I'll be flying into California form NY after Wrestlemania.. My goodness..
ODESZA made sense for a sub, and SZA may have drew a bigger crowd than The Weeknd, so I'd say she earned her spot.
This ain't the iHeartRadio Music Fest. Although...RIP?
It's on par with this year.
Perhaps in terms of genre, but not on timing. Bruno Mars and Rihanna would be super late unless they were releasing new albums. Drake makes a lot of sense, though.
If REM reunites it's not for Coachella, not because they wouldn't do it, it just wouldn't make sense for GV. I honestly can't see them going back to an alt-legacy act as a headliner. There's a better chance Ariana Grande or Selena Gomez headline this before REM.

Can we stop with the “late unless they have a new album” thing? Let’s just assume new albums are coming.

Probably a safe assumption, but not a guarantee after Muse in 2014 and RHCP in 2013, though I know the latter was a last-minute replacement.
For one, he's arguably the most popular hip-hop artist right now and has a new album coming. Two, I could see them booking him again on the hope/ideal that he'd deliver a better performance (sorta like when Roo booked Kanye again in 2014).
Was Drake's past performance panned universally? I remember seeing mixed reviews but hearing from people there that he was good, admittedly they were big fans.
With the pop/top 40 focus maybe they'll try to bring in another pop star? Madonna will have a new album in 2019 and Ed Sheeran is selling out stadiums and headlined Glasto previously.
I'm thinking Frank Ocean - Kanye - Madonna would be a fairly solid top line
Among heterosexual women, probably not but nothing wrong with that. Have to think an exclusive set in southern CA, pretty close to Palm Springs, would probably be quite a draw. The Rebel Heart tour in 2015 grossed 169M over only 82 shows.
I think y'all are giving too much weight too the "pop / top 40" focus. They literally booked AC/DC, Guns N Roses, and Radiohead in three straight years before this year. Paul also clearly stated this year was nothing different, just the planets aligned for someone he's always wanted (Eminem) and timing was perfect for someone Coachella has long promoted (the Weeknd) and if Beyonce was the third headliner, so be it.
I don't think they're going to go out of their way to book like Rihanna/Drake/Chance or something if Paul's been working on, say, Metallica for a while (their dates line up perfectly), or a Smiths reunion, etc.
