Integrity in festival thread ownership

You know going through this thread again, I see the usual suspects talking about how awful and terrible I am. Yet the only concrete criticism that anybody has pointed to, is that sometimes I will say that I know a lineup, not share, and you feel upset by that... That sounds pretty dumb to me.

But ya know what. I relinquish my scoop crown. From now on I will not give out any inside information at all. I will ignore any and all PMs asking for info. We can go back to the days of waiting for insider to show up once a year and let yall know about 3 acts on only one festival.

Now you guys just get me and my insightful, impartial, respected analysis on politics, attendance numbers, and foghat =). Inforoo 2.0 babay!!

I'm saying with altruistic, constructive intentions, and I hope it is received that way.

What was your ultimate purpose in this post, and what was your expectation of the response? This is the sort of post is what drives a lot of people crazy. I agree that people tend to gang up on you at times and sort of goad you into an online altercation, with multiple posters sorta flaming or mocking you. And I understand that to a lot of outsiders/lurkers/newer posters, that can seem like really bullish behavior. But many times you aren't making posts with the purpose of earnest discussion or authenticity at all; and it can get really annoying. this post is a perfect example of this behavior - instead of either honestly saying "hey, i found a cool lineup i'd like to discuss, where did we land on the thread starting issue because I want to talk about this lineup" (and that is a lineup worth some discussion) you came in here with a sort of woe-is-me passive aggressive tone. Which makes me wonder, honestly, did you post that lineup because you wanted to discuss it, or did you just use that lineup as a vehicle to make a "point" in this thread?


I think you have made some funny jokes in the past, and can offer real insight into a festival/lineup/etc. but you have established a pattern of behavior that is unbearable to many people. And you either lack the self-awareness to recognize it, enjoy the flame war that ensues afterward, or you just lack the discipline to stop yourself. I dunno, but it has created the feud mentality that has become pervasive in threads where you are active. And that's not to say other people don't have some responsibility for their responses to this behavior. but at some point you are doing these things with a clear understanding of the expected response from certain posters and/or the board at large; you making this post, as well as continued insistence that people just block you, leads me to believe you have no intention of changing that behavior. And so part of me doesn't really care if people others want to engage you and it ends up in being 5-6 people fighting with you.

Have posters like juggs/emoney/horn and some others made thread title jokes and mocked a festival? Yes. That's true. Have we pmed then or stepped in at times when it gets too much/has a lot of complaints? We try to, yes.

Do those guys tease out lineup info and occasionally post vague things that they know could be interpreted as "lineup leaks" and not just "an act I want to see" constantly? Not really. How many times now have you gone back and forth on the "I'm not sharing anymore" and then go back to leaking/hinting stuff? For the most part it does feel like attention seeking.

And is it just the same small group doing the complaints/contacting us/reporting posts? Nope. There's more than you may realize. And for the most part we've let it slide with not much more than a post in whatever thread your in that day. We recognized that sometimes it's just corny jokes and whatever....that's what Inforoo has been made of forever. But at times it seems like your purposely pushing people's buttons to get a rise out of them.

Have some of your "rivals" (ugh all this shit is so lame in the context of a festival message board) also pushed the buttons of yourself and others (myself included) in the past? For sure. But those guys have also dealt with a few suspensions and at times bannings. And I'd say for the most part things from those posters have been tame compared to the past. Some stopped coming around here completely.

Anyway, to end this long, rambling post on my phone I'll just say it's not just a few people who are tired of what you've been doing and youre not simply criticized for "saying you have info and not sharing it". It's a bit more than just that.

You quoted it, bolded the first line, gave a flippant response to that line, and ignored everything else he said. It didn’t have anything to do with teasing information, and I don’t know, but he doesn’t seem to be one of this small group you keep referring to. Perhaps you are being a little selective in what negative comments about yourself you are actually processing?
