There is an slight element of weird old Bonnaroo here. It has that factor where it's fun being able to say to your friends, "I could see Nelly, Earth Wind and Fire, Billy Idol, Blondie, TLC, and NERD all in the same weekend. But that element was usually the icing on Roo's cake. Not the cake itself.
This just lacks current (last 10 years) critically acclaimed artists all throughout.

Katy Perry, Robert Plant, EWF, Gucci Mane, Slash, Alice In Chains, Billy Idol, Blondie, Nelly, Melissa Etheridge, STP, TLC, Tower of Power, Everclear, Soul Asylum, The Zombies (really, they are touring?), The English Beat, Candlebox, Craig Ferguson, Iliza Shlesinger, Nick Offerman, Craig Robinson, Chris Hardwick, Whitney Cummings, Kevin Nealon, Pete Holmes, Nikki Glaser, Pauly Shore, Aparna Nancherla.
Yeah I could get behind this. Strange that a refreshing lineup these days is one that has a bunch of old bands.

Well put, there is an absurdity to these artists being adjacent that feels like Bonnaroo from a few years back.
That comedy lineup is top notch...this looks like it'd be a fun weekend. Only thing bringing this down is Post Malone and Imagine Dragons taking up two prime spots.
And say hello to the 1960's with War, Tower of Power and the Zombies and the 1970's with The English Beat. Old skewel ska stuff there. As with most festivals, there's plenty of shit I don't want to see like Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Halsey, Post Malone, Jewel, Billy Idol, etc. But you get Foo Fighters, Plant & TSSS, Wiz, NERD, EW&F, Gucci Mane, Slash w/ Miles Kennedy, AiC, Big Boi, Blondie, STP, TLC, War, Tower of Power, Everclear, Soul Asylum, Zombies and Candlebox.
Not something I'd travel to San Diego for, but I'd also go if I lived there. Tickets go on sale in 13 minutes, but I don't see price options yet.
Who wants to see washed up, sexual misconduct champion Katy Perry in 2018?
had to do a quick google, looks like she kissed a guy who had never kissed a girl on idol and has been flirtacious with other contestants?
i suppose from a power dynamics stand point a contestant would feel compelled to play along with katy, even if they were not comfortable doing so.
this is one of those situations where my wokeness gets challenged, because katy perry is a woman and very attractive. not saying that to be a smartass, it's just that purely subjectively i'd be happy to flirt with and/or kiss katy perry.

Yeah, addressing the kiss situation on American Idol. While nearly not as terrible as the situations going on with the likes of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, it’s a bit disgusting. Imagine a 33-year-old man doing the same to a 19-year-old woman.

I've been to this festival twice because I live in the area, but I would not recommend it to anyone outside of the area. The logistics are ridiculously bad

Flying out for Cali fests are expensive as is but I think this was a huge ticket price and accommodationsee in the area are grandiose. What interests me is who on this lineup will make it to LIB the next weekend.
Last year they shared Muse and Milky Chance. Hopefully this year LIB gets Robert Plant and NERD. (Unlikely)

What's so bad about the logistics? Not going (also live in town), just curious how they eff it up. Seems like a large enough venue for a festival, and they should be used to the crowds with the fair there every year.

Totally agree. It should super easy for them to figure out. The venue usually has way more people than this festival. I went the first year and it wasn't too bad. really light crowd, the shows were great, didn't have many issues. The second year, they put ludacris in one of those 1,000 person capacity warehouse hall things. He started right when Aerosmith and the chainsmokers ended and people were mobbing to try to get in, but it was at capacity. People at the back of the line were pushing to get in, causing people at the front to get crushed and jump over the barricades. They ended up having to call in 30 police officers who showed up in riot gear and pepper sprayed the crowd. It lead to 4 arrests. LAST year I only went for a day but after the shows, they made us walk about a mile to the uber pick up, just to see they were raising the prices to $150 for a ride to clairemont. We ended up walking an extra mile and took a lyft for 30. (I later realized uber was a big sponsor at this fest)
That being said, it's annoying how corporate this event is, it's like walking through a festival of pop up ads. They legitimately had a Mercedes commercial play in between songs at alanis morsette.

Take off those two plus Katy "sues nuns" Perry and it's not terrible.

Wow that sounds terrible. It's too bad they waste a perfectly good venue on something so poorly thought out.
For reasons that I don't really understand, my group of friends really want to do this. And I've never been to San Diego so it's a good enough excuse to get me there for a long weekend.
Anything else I should know or expect besides awful festival logistics? Yelp says that beer is really overpriced, but I mean that could be said for all festivals, or events in general.

I wanna say beers were like $10-12, with craft like $14 or something stupid like that. Though, the security is basically just walking though a metal detector so it's easy to avoid buying anything. I will say the music has always been great here. The stages are set up in great spots and the sound is usually good. They really cater to VIP, though. If you look at maps from previous years, you can see a tiny sliver in front of the stages available for GA, while the rest is for the million different versions of VIP they have.
They are doing another Kaaboo in Dallas in May next year at the Cowboys' Stadium. kaabootexas.com/
Now that the SanDiego one is over, they posted up early birds for the sister site in Texas. More expensive than ACL. I will be very intrigued with what lineup they corral together, and especially interested in how the turn out will be. It has been very difficult to get a festival to stick in the DFW area.
