This year will be my 15th Bonnaroo. I have done it every which way over the years (Tent, RV, GA, VIP, RLRS), but this will likely be my first time back to tent VIP in a while (I have done Roll Like a Rock Star the past 7 years, but my crew is hitting a new festival instead and I an Rooing solo for the first time ever).
When I was doing VIP formerly, my plan was always to arrive right when it opened on Thursday morning and get as close as possible to the arch. They would cut a special VIP entrance right there, and it was so nice and easy to walk back to camp and grab beers all day. But I heard this entrance is no longer there, and Platinum might have changed things further.
Where are the VIP entrances now? And does anyone have any efficiency tips and tricks?
And finally, "regular" VIP now has dedicated Pit access to What and Which (in addition to The Hill)?
Hey there! I didn't attend Roo last year, but have the prior 5 years - 3 of which were VIP camping. The side entrance to What had been removed in 2016 - not sure if they put it back in 2017. The other entrance is a VIP only beside of the arch. They do have a dedicated viewing area at Which that is pretty close to the stage - and used to be directly beside/behind RLRS. I'm not 100% sure if they added pit access to What and Which in 2017.
But! I'm staring down doing Roo solo in VIP tent this year, too and am located in Richmond. Figured I'd reply back to say 'hi' neighbor :-)
Oh interesting, so they only have the arch entrance now. Easy enough, I will still just try and camp as close to the arch as possible then.
I am sure getting around the festival will still be easy enough, and into the pit when relevant (most festivals I just do GA). The thing I will miss most is instant into the silent disco. But seems like that line isn't nearly as bad with the expansion. Praying real late nights are back, was so silly closing all the stages by 3.
Awesome, Richmond representing! I have likely seen you out then, was just at The National for Flaming Lips and Papadosio the past few weeks. Going to see The National (band) in Charlottesville at the end of the month, David Byrne in DC, and Fisher in DC. Small possibility of Sylvan Esso, Decemberists, and/or Beck coming up around here as well. I would be doing What So Not and Gramatik if I didn't have my kids those weekends.
Getting in thursday early gets you as close to the arch entrance as possible as of last year. However, platinum and vip wirh rent a tent take a up a good amount of that space now. The what stage entrance is back but is only open friday thru sunday and you have to go thru ga security when you enter via that route.
I am ok with GA security as long as I don't have to wait in the GA line. But what is the alternative? Maybe a back entrance onto the VIP hill, then into Centeroo from there?
Pretty sure VIP has their own entrance at the arch? Has that changed in recent years?
Yea. Vip has a dedicated entrance at the arch. There is also a entrance at the back of the what field opposite the arch thats only open when what is open and you have to merge into the GA line to get in.

Yeah I recall that one, and being someone who is not fond of GA security I typically used the arch entrance (the one year I did VIP).
