I’m apprently the only one who doesn’t get his pants tight over the 930 Club. IMP books great shows, which is the most important part, but the venue itself is nothing special.
The Newport in Columbus is up there for me. It’s not the best acoustically, and sitelines vary depending on where you are. But it’s just got a good feeling and always makes a show feel so intimate and I have so many good memories there.
I wasn’t a huge fan of any of the venues in Austin. None of them were awful, but none of them stood out either. I mean, Moody Theatre (where ACL Live is filmed) is cool if you’re on the floor, but the seating up top sucks. And The Mohawk has some pretty terrible sitelines. Stubbs made it easy to get close tho and has great sound.
I’ve only been to 3 venues I think in Sydney. And the best by far is the Opera House.

One of my favorite venues when I still lived in Michigan was the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. It had everything you could want from a 300 person club, good sound, cheap beer, and pool tables in the basement. The real upside to the club was that they always drew a good crowd. There’s a good story about a gig Nirvana played there that they called their best gig ever. They had been touring the country in a van playing to a dozen or so people every night and then they rolled into Ann Arbor and ripped through a sold out show. There’s video of their return trip a year later.
I'd probably say Crossroads KC because it is the outdoor space behind a good restaurant (salmon, cream cheese, pesto pizza, yum) with a great beer selection. Can see the stage from anywhere and great sound. But it's outdoors so only runs from May to October. Seeing the Black Keys there in 2010 while eating a BLT with avocado was a stand out experience.
For year round I would go with Liberty Hall which is 30 minutes away in Lawrence Kansas. Midland theater in KC is really beautiful but it's bigger and pricier (both tickets and drinks). Liberty Hall is a third of the size and much more affordable. Unfortunately Liberty Hall doesn't book shows at the pace they used to. Arctic Monkeys in 2010 and the Flaming Lips 2-night stand for the venue's 100th anniversary in 2012 are stand out shows for me there.

This happened around the same time down here. Some of you probably saw it on Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!
Trees isn't necessarily my favorite Dallas venue, but I have probably spent more nights there than any other and played a few shows there back in high school. There's enough history there for me to justify it as my pick. I've spent tons of nights at the Granada/Dada too so they would be a close second/third. I really just despise Dallas shows though because of the crowds, so seeing a show here is always a last resort for me.

I like the 930 Club and I like The Anthem a lot, but for me the best venue in the DC area is Wolf Trap. Everything that youd want in an outdoor venue and being able to bring in your own food and alcohol is a massive plus

I love all the venues here. I have some amazing memories at express live (still the LC in my heart).

Having visited venues in various (international) cities with a similar capacity, 930's design and acoustics stand out given that they are outstanding from anywhere in the venue. But the management of the venue does make a huge difference as well. If some company like Live Nation took over, it would undoubtedly go to shit.

It’ll always be the LC. Or if you really wanna get technical, Promowest.
But I agree. Every venue in Columbus is great. From Skully’s to the Palace theatre to the Schott or Nationwide.
Damn. I think I’ve been to every venue in Columbus. Even Rumba Cafe and Parkstreet and all the super small places. Except Alrosa Villa. Never been there.
