Yeah, in retrospect, I'm kind of regretting my decision to only go one of the two full days. I mean, I think Saturday was great, but I'm hearing such good things about U.S. Girls, Chan Marshall is legend, and Future Islands sounded excellent from outside the stadium as we were getting in. Stupid adult responsibilities.
Anyway, I agree night 2 was the better set from The National. There are a few songs from night 1 that I wouldn't trade for anything - "Apartment Story," "England," "Carin at the Liquor Store," and seeing Phoebe Bridgers join them for "I Need My Girl" and "Sorrow" - but the energy level last night felt more elevated, for sure.

My gf and I had already planned to visit upstate NY this past weekend, and since I got free tickets through the AXS blow-out, I managed to convince her to attend this on Saturday night. We showed up with less than a half hour before The National's set time, but luckily there was a ton of space available for bowl seating. I was really happy that the event was undersold for this reason, so we could easily spread out and avoid all the groups of people who weren't paying attention. Not sure what it would be like to attend a sold-out show at Forest Hills when there's assigned bowl seating, but I really loved the setting. Hard to dance, though, with the lack of space between bleachers, but since it was chilly we just sat and huddled against each other and acted all lovey-dovey and shit. A++, would recommend.
The National was terrific! Fucking cried during Sorrow and About Today. I can imagine the energy being better at the second show since there were probably less casual Saturday night people, but I prefer Saturday's setlist on paper.

I only went on Night 2. Picked up four free tickets, so I had a nice little squad for the day. This was my fourth time seeing the National this year, and i've been lucky to have a very different set list each time. I'm bummed that I missed "Secret Meeting" from Night 1, but am otherwise very pleased with the set list they played.
The only artist I was seeing for the first time was Cat Power, who was quite good. All said, it was a pretty great day.
Great show from The National last night, very dynamic. Never realized before that Matt can be chatty and funny, I remember them opening for somebody (think it was Arcade Fire, although maybe it was REM - have seen The National opening both) where Matt had his head down pretty much the whole time... Has been great to see their evolution over the years. Also great to see Future Islands, who I like a lot, again. Got there just as U.S. Girls were wrapping up because the subway was all screwed up - not only was it going local but it wasn't moving because of a sick passenger on another train. Ended up leaving the subway at Northern Blvd. and jumping in an Uber the rest of the way, otherwise I might have missed Cat Power too! Grabbed one of the nice seats with backs straight back from the stage, got lucky with an aisle seat I could stretch my leg out with. Bowl seating seemed about 50% full. They have done some good improvements to the facilities since I last saw a show there three years ago, more food and much better bathrooms!
