I'm definitely not going to the pitchfork winter, iii points, or shaky knees, so i'm wide open for early year stuff. it's also the closest proximity to my birthday.

Started the process of scoping out AirBnBs today. I think this may be happening, and I'm very excited because as far as I can tell there are zero (0) bad acts on the lineup

I never had any luck with finding an AirBnB in Knoxville. Wanna hear how that goes for ya.
I've been staying in hotels away from downtown as it's just too pricey for me. The parking garages are free after 5 pm and on the weekends. I've found it cheaper for me to just drive in for the shows.
If you need any help pointing you in that direction, lemme know.

I have my eye on one that's just on the other side of the river that is going for about 30/night! But I'm sure we'll be looking for lots of advice on food and non-festival attractions from repeat attendees, so I'll have questions even if that falls through haha

Oh something else neat I learned today: my older brother has a masters in music composition, and I guess ACME (American Contemporary Music Ensemble) actually performed one of his songs once... small world!
Oh, I also realized today that Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir used to be in Múm. I kept looking at that name and couldn't place it.
Now I gotta track down albums.
I was just listening to her.
Also note that her ex-husband is Avey Tare. Looking at a possible collaboration or a possible shanking. Big Ears is all about being innovative and pushing the envelope.

$30/night is dirt cheap. That's jealousy right there.
my biggest dilemma now is to do big ears, or pull the trigger on early bird FORM Arcosanti Tickets.
I'll echo Fred and say it's just too expensive for me. I always love the lineups but the cost doesn't negate what I'd take out of it. I could see most of those bands for cheaper than what the ticket would cost.
It is pretty though.
They also won't book a shit ton of jazz either. It's gonna be a ton of bands that you're gonna have a million opportunities to see again.
Basically you're down to spending three (or four) days with young white dudes or old white dudes. I always go with old white dudes in situations like this. I like the stories more.

Do Arcosanti especially if you are an artist or craftsperson. Big Ears obviously rules, but Form looks to be in a class by itself with a full immersion into the sculptures and environment there. Plus I want someone I trust to go to that and report back. There’s always quality input from MM, Garage, Dave and others who go to Big Ears.

Last summer, I drove to Chicago to see Animal Collective perform "Sung Tongs..." and at this show I was absolutely blown away by the opening band. I couldn't find any signage to figure out who the opener was, and eventually forgot about it. Jump to now where I just learned that the opener was Lonnie Holley. When the Big Ears 2019 line up came out, I did a quick scan of his music, thinking I hadn't heard him before, and thought, "not a top tier artist, but I wouldn't mind seeing him." Scratch that. I'm an idiot and he's totally top tier. Highly recommend adding Holley to your schedule, my friends... his set was nothing short of brilliant.

I'm hoping for a smaller Standard set but I'm thinking Mill + Mine. Either way, I'm planning to be at both his set and the collaboration with The Messthetics.
Anyone else half ass wishing we get one of those Daydream Nation showings with a q + a? I'm over here patiently waiting for the film portion to drop.

Thurston Moore just finished a two night residency at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis: walkerart.org/calendar/2018/thurston-moore-moore-at-60 -- I only made it to the second night (due to having a "guilty pleasure" ticket on the first night - Alan Parson's Project), but it was absolutely fantastic.... the main "band" was Moore, Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth & Deb Googe of My Bloody Valentine. It was as brilliant as you'd think it would it be.
