Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Also, here are some photos of my festival’s location, Valley of Fire State Park, about an hour outside of Las Vegas.
Looks hot.
That’s why my festival is taking place at the end of March/beginning of April. Spring in the area is super nice, with average lows around 51 and average highs around 75 (a nice dry 75, no mugginess).
Also, scenes from Star Trek Generations were filmed there.
I think your billing is a little wonky. Some of your acts regularly appear near the top of modern lineups but are billed fairly low here (e.g. Pretty Lights, Alt-J, Pharrell, etc). Are you imagining these artists at earlier stages of their careers, or are you just choosing to bill these artists however you choose? Is this a European thing where Flume is still an up-and-comer but Boney M are massive?
On a scale of 0-100, how insanely overpacked do you think Radiohead performing OK Computer on the second-biggest stage will be?
Speaking of massive things, is there enough of that humungous mushroom for all six tents and three buses in the campground?
I'm intrigued about this Basquiat talk. Tell me more.
Can I get an amen for superjams with Janis Joplin?
Can you really claim Thom Yorke / David Bowie & Nile Rodgers curated your superjams if you picked them?
Every time I see Despacio on your lineup, I read it as Despacito and get that stupid Justin Bieber song stuck in my head. I don't have a question, I just thought you should know.
Holy shit, so many questions
First thing, the billing. So, the thing is that I wanted to make the billing seperated by their stages. So you have the Dancehall which got all sorts of (live) electronic music, you got Motown which is for soul, R&B, funk, disco, reggae etc, you even got an acoustic stage. So I categorized my picks via that way. I thought f.e. CHIC would never play at my mainstage, cuz he'd fit better onto that Motown stage or why I don't have a late night electronic act in the Barn. It's a bit inspired by the way Glastonbury fills their stages, you got different stages for specific genres aswell there.
Boney M. sold 80 million records over the time span of their career, I'd say that's a lot more than Flume, alt-J or whatever else act you think got billed to low. I'm billing the acts by how they moved a scene or how significant they are or were to music history and how many records they sold and lastly, how they were billed at festivals. Differences between Florence + The Machine till Wilco or Bassnectar are rather small. Sigur Ros for example was and still is one of the most important post rock bands and impacted a lot of bands, not only in Iceland but across the scene and further. Ben Harper was headlining festivals in the early 2000's.
So it's not that I don't acknowledge some of these acts their influence or whatever, it's simply just because the differences between acts are just so small. Dinosaur Jr was a pretty important (but imo underrated) band in the 90's. Idk.
Second question, the second Radiohead set started out when I was going through some Glastonbury (yes, again) line ups and I found that every year they do these secret sets where they invite a band or whatever to do a gig for like idk 2500 people or whatever. So, I thought to myself.. Well, I can't really pick a secret act in the first round cuz it'll be known that I picked them (but yeah, I know maybe not necessarily for that but whatev) and I can't pick them in free agents cuz what if someone else got that same act? So I thought, which highly billed act(s) would cause a lot of stir and could play a second set? Clapton was the first one that I had billed on my Acoustic stage to let him do an acoustic set and then Radiohead came along aswell. But then I questioned how I'd bill these two things. Should I show people that I've these acts ready to do a second secret set or should I just keep it on my clashfinder? So, I just scrapped that idea, scrapped Clapton's set because I thought people would find it lazy and kept Radiohead's set and billing on that stage. About their billing, they're still billed pretty late in a tent and are up against (prime CHIC, Porter & Madeon, Royji Ikeda and a bit of Clapton) but I understand yeah..
Thirth question, uh yes
4th; so the Arts & Talk stage is where artists in all shapes and forms talk about their craft or do workshops or whatever. For example, I always imagined Keith Haring doing a workshop with people so they could learn how to doodle or paint like him lol.
Can you imagine a superjam with a weirded out Janis Joplin and Mac DeMarco singing some stuff together. Shit'd be amazing.
Don't really understand your question on that last one. If I were to ask to Thom Yorke: "hey man, you wanna throw a superjam together with a bunch of people you like or friends and do a post modern tribute to the summer of '67?" then these are a few names that I think he'd work with or whatever. It had to include a few singers with a nice vocal range, some people can provide for some sick beats and then some guitarists along with it. Idk, that's how I imagined it'd be. Same thing goes for the Let's Dance SJ (not the album btw, I had Saturday Night Fever SJ also in my mind but went with this). I just imagined a superjam that'd bring some good vibes with singers and artists that'd go well together with each other.
I always read Despacio as des-patch-io and despacito as.. des-pa-ci-to so idk. I get it tho

even for people who don't normally enjoy house or techno, KiNK is a name you should know. He also has a "How I Play" video that shows what he does live, but I think it's fun to just watch it, and this Boiler Room video gets you up close so you can see everything he is doing.
The first few minutes are kind of slow and funky as he is building up his sound. Until right around the 5:45 minute mark when he adds the beat, jesus that gets my heart racing, but he's still just layering sounds, until around 7:00min when he just drops that straight beat. Shit gives me goosebumps. And then it goes into overdrive at 8:15min.
It's moments like these that converted me to a dance music fanatic. There is no limit on the creativity of the performer. And strangely in the end the performer doesn't really matter. It's so much more about the crowd and the music.
also you can ONLY see KiNK at P.O.S.T. buy ticket.
So is everyone voting for themselves or nah? I didn't last time until the last round cause it felt lame but I don't wanna be a sucker.
i'll vote for myself until i'm out. i don't recall how the voting system works, i guess it's multiple rounds?
Five rounds of voting this time.
Winners will be decided by poll in elimination rounds of twenty-five, fifteen, eight, four and two.
I always vote for myself and usually for as many others as I’m allowed to vote for (I.e., if we can vote for up to fifteen lineups in round one, I will vote for myself and fourteen others).
So is everyone voting for themselves or nah? I didn't last time until the last round cause it felt lame but I don't wanna be a sucker.
I thought a big reason why we're allowed to vote for multiple festivals is to encourage people to vote for others as well. I always vote for myself and my other favourites.
You know that scene in Election, where Paul Metzler is in the voting booth and has a moral dilemma about voting for himself, so he votes for Tracy Flick instead? And then that results in Tracy Flick winning the election by a single vote? Paul let his Midwestern niceties betray his true convictions, and that eventually leads Tracy to work in DC, where the whole country now has to deal with her awfulness. The moral of the story here is don't be a Paul Metzler.
(umm... spoiler alert for a 20-year old movie, I suppose).

sang_xcx Yeah it’s near impossible to get a good schedule without conflicts while also making sure there are choices for everyone. I tried to make sure that there were as little inactive or dead acts conflicting as possible. Thx for the run through it was interesting seeing how others saw my lineup. Check out the Psych superjam in the OP tho, seems up your alley.
