Looking at the EF lineup more - I get a sinking feeling we'll be getting Odesza or Kygo again.
On the positive side, I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of these names at FF. Alison Wonderland, Bob Moses, Ekali, Gorgon City (Live), Gramatik, Lettuce (redemption set!), Quinn XCII, The Floozies, Tokimonsta.

I doubt we are getting ODESZA a year after they were just here.

Here's a random thought... Beach House at Firefly. Yay or nay?
Nay. Love Beach House, but they needed darkness for their show.
Could you imagine a Firefly Beach House set where people are firing glow sticks everywhere.
As long as there's an EDM act to play opposing Beach House, that's where the glow stick crowd will be, ideally. Although who knows anymore, now that they have The Chainsmokers full endorsement.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb
I honestly have no idea what to expect from this year. I already bought my ticket so I'm all in for whatever it is.
None of the rumors so far have me excited.
I really thought Tame would be there. They were amazing in 2016, I would have loved to see them again. Such a bummer they'll be in Europe.
Aside from Tame there aren't really any other headline caliber contemporary rock artists I would be that excited for.
The fact that a different company is apparently doing the booking makes me slightly optimistic we might get some shit we won't even know is on the table until the lineup comes out.
Sort of like a hybrid Firefly/Panorama lineup.
I just can't think of any major alt rock headliners that would get me excited.
I've seen people mention Green Day, but I just don't know anymore. I used to be a huge fan when I was a teenager but I haven't really listened to them since high school. At this point I just don't think they're anywhere close to their prime or being relevant. They have a great back catalog but it's been years since they've really done anything great.
I really hope it's not like Kings Of Leon doing a one off or something stupid like that. I also really don't want Mumford or Lumineers or any of those sort of acts. I don't even understand how Lumineers are headlining Hangout.
Also people seem to think it's so likely we will get Travis Scott as a headliner. I've honestly never heard anything by him. I had to look him up. I only knew he existed because over the last few years I would see his name slowly creeping up festival lineups.
Being knocked down to three days, I really expect A LOT out of the headliners and the lineup in general.
If they don't absolutely slay this year, then it will be my 8th and final year.
Bringing Portugal. The Man back would seal the deal though. I know it's very unlikely that a festival would bring back an act two years in a row, but I'm going to let this be my happy delusion.

I don't think it needs to be overthought. Last year they went back to the old formula with success, so it'll probably be standard Firefly, meaning as headliners you'll get a mix of:
Solid rock headliners with a catalog (Green Day, The Strokes, Coldplay, Jack White, Arcade Fire, Florence, The Black Keys (if they return), RHCP, Vampire Weekend) At least one big hip-hop and 3 EDM late nighters (Travis Scott, Post Malone, Jay-Z, Kids See Ghosts, Cardi B, Migos, Kygo, Chainsmokers, etc) Maybe a legend act or pop act IF it lines up (Bruce, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood, Timberlake, Maroon 5, Ariana, Lady Gaga)
One thing though is after having a Top 20 of all men pretty much and Halsey calling them out, I think they'll try hard to work a female act into the Top 5. Honestly, it'll probably just be Halsey.
And then you'll get popular rock (Haim, Cage, The 1975), some nostalgia (Offspring, Incubus, Goo Goo Dolls), acts doing big streaming numbers, the entire alt-nation catalog, and a lot of unknowns hoping someone hits like Maggie Rogers.

Yeah you're definitely right. The only problem with the headliners is most of the rock acts you listed I've already seen at Firefly haha. I know it isn't that huge of a deal and I'm one of the few with that problem.
And idk if this is weird, but have you ever had an artist or band where by the time you saw them, you just weren't really that into them anymore? Green Day and Arcade Fire are both like that for me. I used to be a huge fan, but over the years I just moved on and now if I was to see them I just wouldn't be as hyped about it. Mac Demarco is another one, I can't believe he hasn't played Firefly and it's been a few years now and I just don't listen to him like that anymore.
Also I think the whole Halsey thing was bullshit. Idk. I don't like getting into gender politics and stuff like that, especially because in this instance I very strongly doubt it was any sort of intentional move on Firefly's part. Or any festival for that matter. When they start booking acts, I assume the two big things are 1. Do people want to see them? 2. Are they available those dates? People were saying she was just pissed she didn't get asked to play, which idk. Sounds dumb but then again people are dumb.
I'm all for more female representation but why not something good like Karen O and/or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They were great in 2013.

First, I agree with you on the rock/indie band headliners. This will be my 7th year so I've pretty much seen all of those types of headliners. Doesn't mean I would hate if one of them were to be booked again though. The Strokes would actually be an awesome get since I have never seen them before and I love their music. Having Cage the Elephant back would be fantastic. I never actually went to their sets at Firefly but I saw them at Roo two years back and omg that was one of the best shows I've seen.
On the Halsey thing... that was complete BS. While I agree with her point that there was a lack of women artists on the lineup, I think its garbage to blame firefly for that. She even complained about where the first women artist was located. I don't think it's their fault to take things that the general population wants. It's out of anyone's hands at this point since a majority of well known bands (aka higher up in the tiers) are composed of mostly male artists. That said, times are definitely changing and there are more women artists rising in the ranks. I enjoyed Ellie Goulding a lot when she came by. I wouldn't mind seeing Lorde (her set at Bonnaroo two years back was cut halfway because of technical issues).
Anyway, I'm excited to see what we have this year. I'd love to see Incubus and Blink-182 there just because they're two of my favorite all-time bands. Everything else that comes with it would be just an added bonus.

I definitely wouldn't complain about Jack White or the Black Keys because it's been since year 1 that they played. They were great then, my only qualm is one that is 100% just my own opinion, but they haven't really put anything out since 2011-2012 that I really liked. So I would be cool with seeing them, but I would be more excited to hear the same songs again and maybe a few deeper cuts.
The Strokes would be awesome, especially because they're my girlfriends favorite band and she has never seen them live.
I thought Blink was awesome in 2016, but again for me personally, they played everything I would have wanted to hear then. While I wouldn't be mad about them being there, they wouldn't make me super hyped either. I hope they are there for you though.
I really hope we get Rufus Dü Sol and Tycho in the undercard.
Also did you see Andy Frasco and the UN at Firefly 2017? They were one of our favorite shows of the year, one of my all time favorites, and I would love to see them again.
I also wonder what the odds would be that we get some deep cut shit like My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Spiritualized, Stone Roses. Any Classic shoegaze bands. I understand Firefly has never really been that type of festival but they're bucket list acts I will always hope somehow get booked.
I do not think they will stick with the same formula for this, for the record. I dont know what direction it will go, but I am assuming some decently signficant changes. Already have done so, bringing back to three days on some level

Truncated your quote to the part I want to reply to - not sure if that's kosher on this forum or not. Anywayz - I'm a huge Green Day fan and can vouch they are still performing at the highest level. Relevant or not (I could argue their lack of relevancy is a positive), they are one of the best live rock bands in the world. I saw them a few times in the past couple years, both in small clubs and amphitheaters. The band is having as much fun as ever and sounding super tight. It honestly makes me feel bad for fans of other 90s acts that aren't keeping it together as well.
They'll play a very eclectic mix of old and new, leaning heavily into the old stuff. They'll likely play the singles off that last few records but in my opinion they hold up well among the classics, at least live.
Take all this with a grain of salt because I'm bias but I saw your comment doubting them and had to offer my 2 cents. I too bought presale so we'll see what Firefly has in store for us...

I think Green Day would be a great fit for Firefly. It would be something different than most other festival headliners, and for that matter when’s the last festival stateside they have headlined? They may not be particularly relevant right now, but they’d be better than most of the other “rock” headliners likely to be booked for Firefly.
Like I said before:
Green Day - Travis Scott - Vampire Weekend - Post Malone
Would sell really well and I think please a large majority.

I wonder if they'd put Travis Scott late night. So Green Day Friday, Post Malone followed by Travis Scott Saturday, Vampire Weekend Sunday. If they keep unopposed headliners, this would open us up for a rock/jam band option opposite Travis Scott.

Lettuce is playing Electric Forest, and I think people were saying the same company is booking both festivals.
Plus Lettuce never got to make up their cancelled late night set in 2015.

Or were you thinking someone bigger?
Lettuce would be incredible! And definitely fits what I was thinking. Spafford was a great respite from Martin Garrix last year - made me appreciate having options late night.
