Another group I play with uses way more roles (as in 4-7 unique roles a game) and I thought doing something new after 113 games would be interesting and might rev mafia back up again.
Games with more roles are harder to balance though.

I only know mafia here, but I'm willing to consider all options. piggy pablo is right, in addition to the clusterfuck that was 100 dr/nurse and vigalante were added at least 1 other time also

Yeah, 100 was a clusterfuck. Multiple roles with a smaller group can definitely work though. We'd have to go slow to start, because intro'ing multiple roles the board's never seen can get chaotic.
I should note that this other group I play with plays more or less in real time (it's a Discord group).
Personally, for our 11-person games, I like the current setup. It’s fairly balanced from a Mafia vs. Town perspective.
The doctor is probably the easiest role to add and also one of the more common roles but I’m not sure if adding a role to an 11-person game will throw off the balance or if we would need to jump up to 13 players.
I think the mistake we made in M100 was that the game was tilted in the town’s favor too much: Doctor, Vigilante, 2 Inspectors, and one team of Mafia. I think the one change for that game would have been to have two separate teams of 3 mafia and each inspector would get the name of a different Mafia group. I think this would have created a more interesting game because it would have had Town vs. Mafia but also a Mafia vs. Mafia aspect to the game as well.

How would inspector guesses work? would they have to guess from the same team as the given name or would they be told mafia but not the team you seek? etc

I've seen Mafia v Mafia v Town setups in 11-person games where one of the mafia groups won.
I don't think adding roles necessarily throws off the balance too much. It's about adding the right ones.

If we had a game with 2 mafia groups and 2 inspectors, the Ref would just tell the inspectors if they got a mafia, but not which mafia group. That way it’s till up to the inspector to figure it out. Plus the Mafia groups would be actively looking for the other group.
If we as a group were more active then I’d say the current setup is fine, but I like the idea of adding another roll to get people more involved. I like the idea of a veteran townie who can kill one person per game during the night phase.
I’m leaving for Asia on Saturday to the end of the year. I’ll be in a weird time schedule but if we can get the game started in the next couple days I’m in.
Cmon y’all I’m in Hanoi and on vacation till the new year
Is it that boring that you need mafia to complete the trip?
Lol, no. It’s just that with my new job the only time I know I can play mafia without potentially doseappearing mid-game is during my vacation. And I miss you.
