Favorite episode in a while. Really liked "p-whip." I saw Jesse thinking his son was gay from a mile out, but I really enjoyed how they played that out and he was all, "can't sneak anything past your old man" with a cute little proud dad smile. Liked the cuck guy breaking up with Judy and the overall advancement of the plot.

agreed. as soon as judy told BJ "my whole family hates you and its embarassing" my wife yelled "break up with her". judy's been cruel to BJ throughout but that was such a hateful thing to say it even hurt my feelings.
i also like that gideon is such a badass fighter. skyler gisondo is a great comic actor but before gemstones he's only played the soft kind of goofy kid that has the crush on the cool girl. and he's really really good at playing that type of role, but i'm glad to see him do something different.
small joke that made me crack up was on the yacht when Jessie was reveling in doing the easter sermon and he said to his middle son "pontius i know you don't give a shit". the line and the reaction from the kid was great.
also i think they are intentionally making adam devine's fashion choices worse with every episode. that shit he was wearing at the easter young people's dance was horrendous.

side note: i was with my whole family last saturday (wife, mom, dad, sister, brother in law, two nieces) watching football, and when the opposing team got a yellow flag my sister started singing "misbehaving" and we did that for the rest of the game.
other than kenny powers everything the mcbride/hill crew does flies juuuuust under the radar of greater popular culture. i'm not sensing a ton of "popular" buzz about gemstones yet, but if it does end up permeating into popular culture, i predict "misbehavin" will be the sword that pierces that veil.
until then i'll be over here runnin' through the house with a pickle in my mouth

Holy shit this show. Last episode was so good.
Tim Baltz is great and I liked him getting a little more time here. He was a standout on Bajillion Dollar Properties.
Loved Jesse showing the video and defending his son's actions. That's the kind of (very small and also fucking over his friends) type of redeeming quality some characters on these shows can have.
That fucking earring.
"You shot me in the butthole. You broke my butthole!"
Gotta believe Kelvin is just going deep undercover to rescue his boy Keefe. No way he turned to the dark side.
I'm not expecting it but I would love to see Baby Billy align with Dermot Mulroney and others and challenge Eli for season 2, using the money he stole. But I expect it'll take a few turns I could have never seen coming.

Figure eight that prostate!
My first thought is that Kelvin loses it and descends into the darkness and Keefe comes into rescue Kelvin like Kelvin did for him.

That would be great, as well. Keefe has to play some part in the finale. I just figured he'd easily slide back into those ways quicker than Kelvin would turn to it but either way I'm interested to see what happens.
Once again, I'm pleased at how Eli is portrayed. The way he denies pressing charges cuz it will just hurt them all anyway and when he walks off sobbing that he can't do it anymore without Aimee Leigh was so sad. I'd love seeing John Goodman just as fucked up as the rest of them but I like the choices they've made with his character so far.

This show is so fucking funny. I lost it a few times early on with Danny McBride and his reaction about his son being in Haiti with a simple "Eww". Everyone got a lot of great moments to shine. BJ had some major highlights. I loved the three Gemstones consoling each other on the couch while watching Never Ending Story. So ridiculous.
It's amazing how emotional this show can make me feel when only 25 minutes earlier the sister was asking the brother if she'll get guys to go down on her butthole and also talking about leaving snail trails on a chair.
I really, really liked how things resolved but am interested to see where they go from here. Seemed like a lot of open threads kind of got tied up. And in a very satisfying way.

great finale! i know there will be another season, but i always like a season that wraps everything up. if the series ended last night it would still be a fine piece of satisfying storytelling.
the outback scene as everyone has said was incredible. "after that we weren't girlfriends and boyfriends no more". also the single "fuuuck" from the security guard when BJ and Judy are talking might have been the funniest part of the episode.
also like all great comedies i liked the authentic emotional parts of the episode (and season overall). i thought jesse going to haiti to be with gideon was great. it wasn't because jesse gave a shit about helping people in haiti, but he wants to be a better father. also earlier in the episode when the siblings were comforting each other at kelvin's i liked that they said to jesse "you'll learn to be a good father it will just take a while".
also for anyone who thinks that comedy can't ride the line of appropriateness and push boundaries anymore because of cancel culture, i'd present this season of righteous gemstones as exhibit A.

Strong finale. That security guard “fuck” and the line that preceded it was my biggest laugh (tweet posted above).
That may have ended up as my second favorite Danny McBride show season after Eastbound S1. Im gonna rewatch all of his shit now in chronological order.

He's 3 for 3 with HBO comedy series as far as I'm concerned. If you haven't seen the movie that started his career "Foot Fist Way" then I highly recommend it. It's basically the prototype to his "misunderstood, angry men" genre of shows.
