Officially going to my first ACL. For those who have been, any tips for the fest? Must eats? Things to avoid? We're staying in a hotel on the north side of Austin, and plan on taking an Uber/Lyft to and from the fest each day. Thanks in advance!
A goddamn perfect description of GCJ. I saw him in both 2012 and 2015 at this same festival. Both times were competent, but 2015 was more evening background music while I grabbed a bite to eat. I suspect the same thing may happen again, especially in my quest to actively avoid the Billie crowd.
So I noticed some stage names are different from last year? My guess is T-Mobile replaces HomeAway (hopefully it has better sound - that stage had some rough sound last year iirc). VRBO would replace Barton Springs. VRBO has at least one set overlapping AMEX so I assume it is far enough away from it so I think the Barton springs location.
On first look, I don’t actually think I’d be at T-Mobile much - Tierra Whack and maybe Koffee - but I still hope the sound is improved.

Uber can suck if you leave with the masses. There are alternatives if you have a DD for the night. You can pay like 30.00 to park about 2 blocks from the entrance or you can park farther back and ride scooters. There’s also shuttles back downtown or you can walk back to downtown and hang out and then catch a lyft Uber or taxi. There’s always good stuff to eat - and some eh - but I’ll have to see the list. 100% grass fed wasn’t on point last couple years and even ran out of all toppings however you do that. There was solid bbq last year and lots of typical austin stuff, but Peli Peli wasn’t back which was a disappointment.
If you plan on drinking, it’s pretty much going to be beer (or wine servings or seltzer beverages. I think there are a couple spots you can get premixed Tito’s drinks, but it sucks for me because I prefer bars since I drink whiskey. Zilker is no smoking but as long as you aren’t a dick about it and toss butts they won’t tell you anything. Also it’s usually hot as fuck with limited shade at some of the stages. So if you sunburn easily, you want to have a hat and sunscreen and shit.

ACL press release says VRBO is replacing HomeAway as a sponsor, but I don't know if that necessarily means they're getting the same stage location. A map would be handy to both answer that and solve some of my schedule conflicts, as for Saturday evening in particular, location and manageable crowd flow is going to determine a lot for me.

You just gotta walk a couple blocks into the neighborhood to the south(?) of Zilker and you can get an Uber fairly quickly. I did great with Ubers last year. It was quite convenient.

If you go the wrong way out you get fucked. Haha they have that other neighborhood in the hills. We’ve gotten stuck til after 12 a couples times. But yeah if you go out Lamar or whatever you can get one there.

Choosing between Thom/Tame or GnR sucks. Already have gone back n forth like 14 times since the schedule dropped.
GnR would cost more than Thom and Tame combined outside of a festival, if that means anything to you. I'd also point out that while things seem to be going smoothly, there's always the possibility things could fall apart for GnR.

Have yall seen GNR live or are you just assuming they're not great because they're older? Because I saw them on their reunion tour in 2016 and they were great.
I saw some of them at Coachella. It was alright. Pretty sure I left for Grimes or Dubfire. Think I’m just not into them enough at this point to stick through an extended set by them since I’m really only into a few songs.

I'm saying this because Thom Yorke was the best show I've seen so far this year.

The non sarcastic approach. I agree. Thom Yorke into GnR should be an awesome close. I want to see Tame again. But I’ve seen them, and I’ve watched them play like 3 or 4 times already this year on tv. It’s always great, but there’s nothing much deviating from show to show that I’ve noticed. I still want to see them, so I’m not sure how I’m going to approach though if I can catch the second half of Tame, I’d still get almost 2 hours of GnR minus any Thom Yorke overlap.

Ok. Jw. I'm not super into Thom's solo stuff but I'll probably catch pretty much all of his set. The first half of Tame's recent sets has all the best songs, and outside of that I'll be at GNR.
If tame dropped some more new stuff it would maybe change my thoughts on seeing the whole thing, but just based on their history even if they did they probably wouldn't play a ton of it anyway.

They switched up their setlist at Glasto where they were playing Apocalypse Dreams as the main set closer, but every other festival I've looked at it's in the middle of the show.
Yeah, they're gonna come with a new show next year with the new album. I think its just a lack of decent headliners that are avaible and the fact that their album was supposed to be dropping this summer but didnt come.
