This thread will cover:
1. Reading sheet music 2. Piano Theory 3. Learning a new language without embarrassing yourself in a classroom or immersing yourself in a culture that speaks the language 4. Etc.

I have no musical talent. I can't even clap along at a concert. Despite this my mom put me in piano lessons. My elementary school was right across the street from the Catholic church. Once a week I left class to take lessons with the church pianist. During one lesson I started feeling extremely sick. I was sweating and could hardly move my hands. Movement made me nauseous so all I could do was peck the keys. Despite this my piano teacher wouldn't let me go 'til the lesson was over. Guess she needed that green. By the end I couldn't even keep my head up. Finally it was was over and my teacher commended me for getting through the lesson. I left the church and walked back to school. The lunch lady was smoking out front and could tell I was about to vomit. She told me to "Do it outside, honey." I proceeded to puke a shitload all over the front entrance sidewalk.
My little sister also took lessons. Her teacher was around 18 and extremely religious. No TV and floor length dress religious. She said Beatles songs were Satanic. Her little sister was also religious but strayed from the path. She got gangbanged by this scuzzy H addict that dated my ex and some of his friends. I blame piano for her downfall.
Long story short: Avoid this thread unless you're looking to get sick or gangbanged.
I faked my college jazz audition by lying about reading and just learned the piece before. I play everything by ear. Our director caught on pretty quick but it was too late. Ended up just having our piano player play out the bass lines, I would copy, and we’d all build from there. Guitar and drums are fun, but piano, horn, and string players possess the real skill imo. I can pick up any instrument and play it, but never to the point those musicians play theirs.
That said not to be pessimistic here but learning piano via forum might be the most difficult way to ever tackle it. I suggest just throwing on some music and bang around on it until you start figuring out some actual notes and rhythm.
They put me in some theory and piano lessons after I was enrolled. I legit don’t remember anything from those classes and felt like they were a waste of time. Honestly felt like for a month my instructor just made me position my hands and posture right. I learned more on my own just tinkering around with one then I ever did in an actual lesson.
