I had to think twice on that because U2 is one of my all time favorites. But as good as their show was, it was a kind of a paint-by-numbers and abbreviated version of their stadium tour set. It didn't feel adapted for a festival setting like Jack and Gambino did.
1. Radiohead 2012 2. LCD Soundsystem 2016 3. Childish Gambino 2019 4. Kendrick Lamar 2015 5. Damon Albarn 2014 6. Anderson .Paak 2018 7. Paul McCartney 2013 8. Kanye West 2014 9. Elton John 2014
I added and removed #10 like 5 different times so let's call it a tie
Based on your last post, we've had a similar Bonnaroo ride, so I'm just going to piggyback here.
1. LCD Soundsystem '16 2. Radiohead '12 3. Macca '13 4. Jack White '14 5. Neutral Milk Hotel '14 6. Anderson Paak '18 7. Animal Collective '13 8. Kendrick '15 9. Chance '14 (His set after Kanye was so refreshingly positive to me) 10. St. Vincent '12
Honorable Mentions: Damon Albarn, Courtney Barnett, STS9, The Districts, Tame Impala ('16), Alabama Shakes ('13), The Joy Formidable, fun.
2013 was great for Thursday up and comers. It was crazy seeing twenty one pilots, Walk the Moon, Japandroids, and Alt-J before they got huge, let alone on the same day. Looking at the schedule, I wouldn't do much different, but I am still bummed I got the bonnaflu and missed Baroness -> Swans on Sunday. Also, though it was cool being at the firs bluegrass situation, kinda regret missing The National and David Byrne & St Vincent...
I'm seeing a disturbing lack of The Flaming Lips on these lists. Was I the only one who experienced that '14 set???
I’m sure it would be on mine, but I was so pooped after Jack White(correct me if I’m wrong) I went back to camp. I walked by it and it looked so colorful and fun, still one of my biggest regrets.

Eh. You seen one flaming lips show, you seen them all. I've seen the lips close to 10 times and the only one that I remember feeling like it was different was when the did that weird vagina album shit at the tame Impala show at Merryweather.

My first Roo, I had never heard of them and I was sitting at a tree high as balls fighting off sleep between Which and This tent watching the Skrillex Superjam but I could hear and see both from where I was and after a while the Flips sucked me in. That show was so wacky/trippy but I’m so glad I got up and checked it out and I ended up all the way front and center of GA behind the pit and held down that spot till Kaskade brought the sun up.
Top 10 1. Pretty Lights (2013) 2. Phish Friday Night (2019) 3. Tom Petty (2013) 4. Kanye (2014) 5. Tame Impala (2013) 6. Jack White (2014) 7. D’Angelo and the Vanguard (2015) 8. Bon Iver Set 2 (2018) 9. Frank Ocean (2014) 10. John Prine (2019)

Man, going thru the schedule of 2019 I see how bad of a lineup that was for me personally. Bands I wouldn't miss in bold.
Thursday everything I'd see is packed together (Comet, Magic City, SunSquabi, Saba, Space Jesus) Friday is quite boring (Rival Sons, Ducky, GriZ, Gambino, Liquid Stranger, Superjam/Girl Talk) Saturday is just okay (Little Simz, Hippo Campus, Hozier, Jim James, Space Jesus, Malone, Lonely Island, Joe Russo) Sunday is underwhelming (Soul Rebels, Lil Dicky, Cardi B, Phish)

i hope 2020 is more to your liking, i know you want to return to bonnaroo this year. i can't remember, are you interested in any of the rumored headliners?

Got my tickets already and not planning to sell. Even if the lineup sucks, I'll be there for you guys.
I'm not a fan of Tool (yeah yeah..) but never saw Tame live. I've seen Lizzo before at SXSW, might catch her set if she's headlining.
2020 is a recovery year for me as I haven't been at much shows in the past couple of years. And tbh, just hoping to have some fun with the random people I meet.
Bonnaroo for me is about the experience and the people. Music would probably be at number 1 any other year, just not 2020.

i imagine if that was ones first flaming lips show it would make a list
But they’ve been doing the same stuff at every show for at least a decade
I’ve seen them break out the “fuck yeah [place]” balloons at at least four shows for example
It's been my fave out of the 5 times I've seen them. I'm a big fan of the ropey light setup that they had just busted out a year before when they started on The Terror tour cycle. By the time Roo rolled around, they had just started phasing out some of the less popular Terror stuff and we got some deeper cuts like Abandoned Hospital Ship and Morning of the Magicians. It was a great festival set because it had a little bit of everything for everyone. But I do agree, after 7 years I think it is time to retire the Fyea balloons and revamp light show.
