I don't have a strong opinion about The National, and have even sampled their songs
I might have to to clarify: it was probably the Molly kicking in between some sad slow song and another.
I’m kidding haha I just really like the National. It was just my experience but I would completely understand if you flipped and said the National is lame and Odesza is exciting

I find The National a much more quality band, but am over sad sad rock songs since I was raised a half-emo/hip-hop kid in Jersey.
Odesza bores the shit out of me as a an EDM and hard house type of person.
That post made me respect Jack White even more. What a savage takedown.
I would respect it way more if he wasn't such a whiny motherfucker on everything. Seriously, it's also a part of not being on the internet on purpose, thin-ass skin, so thin that whenever a major thing happens he gets this bitchy about it. That's all. I respect the fuck out of most of his music, but sometimes a personality can tire you out too
Are NIN too big for The National spot? I personally think they could headline but I feel like I’ve seen people here say otherwise
Yeah, I'd say so. I can only really picture them late on What a la Deadmau5, LCD, Phish.
Like Tyler (845-10) -> NIN (11-1)
Don't think it's likely though.
NIN can be late, but the last show they played at Roo was almost 3 hrs. I don't see them knocking that down, but they would have to base their schedule around them in some way. IT IS better late night and not HL because of the lighting effects and styling, but confirming 2.5hrs with nothing behind them might be enough to get them a real contract to show (for the same amount or more money) on What.

i think they are too big for The National spot, but NIN is a tricky booking for a festival like Bonnnaroo. they are one of those acts that I think has to headline but wouldn't be worth it for bonnaroo to pay them headliner money and give them headliner placement. seems like they are better positioned to headline medium sized festivals, or niche festivals? not sure what their recent history of festivals is, just going off my gut which is often wrong with this kind of stuff.
Nine Inch Nails are perfectly positioned to headline Exit 111.
exit 111 feels a little too butt rocky for NIN i think? could be my own bias holding NIN in higher regard than other acts, but NIN has consistently released music that feels fresh and vital, as opposed to the current crop of exit 111 headliners. not knocking the exit 111 lineup there are acts on there i like.
Why does Action Bronson get booked at the butt rock festivals? I don't understand the crossover appeal.
I say this with all kindness, as I actually was a buyer of Dr. Lecter on the first day due to people I know up here. But, there is a fundamental truth that has been talked about when it comes to white rappers and crossover appeal (Yelawolf and Action Bronson show that immediately here). It isn't to say their music isn't great, or at least measurable. But there is a considerable argument to be made that their careers are propped up by the fact that their white fans understand them, better than they understand black influences. We usually can't talk about this openly anymore, because it seems like an a front to them. But it's what I've been trying to call out since they repeatedly put Eminem at the top HL position twice, while Jay-Z and Stevie Wonder were pushed down to 4 and 5. There is as much to say that the closest Bonnaroo has gotten to a black HL is the Roots pre-show and now finally Childish Gambino after this much time. So while I see that as a net positive, it's still a truth that hopefully is altering, but really slowly in the rest of the festival marketplace.

Mostly agree, Stevie and Jay-Z were 3 and 4 actually (still wrong though. Under Kings of Leon and Dave Matthews? Really)
Also, Kanye's headlining slot in 2014 was 2nd behind Elton John. Hard to argue with that placement. Also Kendrick and The Weeknd both came in 3rd on the billing. The people in front of Weeknd make more sense than Kendrick but he was still on the come up then.
Last thing, Eminem's show was absolute trash in 2011 and on a short list of worst shows I've ever seen BUT his booking is appropriate. Google is happy to tell me that "Eminem is the best-selling hip hop artist of all-time and the best-selling artist of the 2000s." Now some portion of that is because he's white. But its not Bonnaroo's fault that Eminem is one of the biggest artists ever and is billed as such.
