Particularly all three being borderline or not headliners.
VW is headlining mid-tier fests (4th at Hangout). Judging from the new singles, the new album is going to be great. I think, like LCD, they've somehow grown during their time off. I'd bet on them headlining Roo and Coachella next year if they're on the bills.
Don't love Tame Impala all that much so I think they're the biggest stretch. Guess it depends on how well the new album does but them playing Roo makes sense at least.
Beck was 4th after 3 big headliners in 2006 coming off of Guero (which was an awesome album). I think Colors blew chunks but it's got a lot of listens on Spotify. I really like his new single and it's got some good pop appeal (Pharrell, for the kids!) so I could see him making the top 3 in today's festival landscape.
whats funny is this year i'm sitting here laughing at all the non-phish fans upset about phish taking up so much prime schedule real estate, then i read your post and immediately become upset.
Oh my god I just saw the ACL lineup, they blew Bonnaroo out of the water again. Why can C3 book a lineups like that for ACL and not Bonnaroo?
Conflicting headliners makes the lineup less stacked imo.
Sure but imagine the last couple ACL lineups with Bonnaroo scheduling, which seems possible considering they have the same ownership. I could see there being an argument for more booking competition in Europe during June but that didn't seem to matter in the past.

I think the conflicting headliners really makes a big difference from the artist perspective. It seems very possible that The Cure or Tame wouldn't sign up for an 8 p.m. what stage slot pre-headlining for someone.

Ehh I don't really buy this. Bonnaroo has all the scheduling flexibility in the world. And I'm sure it's much more appealing for a huge bands to play unopposed sets with no curfews. They moved the entire late night schedule around in 2017 to extend U2's set time, so obviously playing unopposed was a big deal to them. I'm sure Macca liked his Bonnaroo set time better than when I saw him at Lolla, where he had to start at 8pm in order to make the show 2hrs and had to deal with soundbleed from Kaskade's set. Gambino doesn't mind playing before Phish this year, Stevie Wonder didn't mind playing before Jay Z in 2010, etc.

Fair. And, for me, the problem at Roo hasn't been the headliners. Outside of last year, anyway, which was probably really good for a lot of people besides me.
