Dont have a read on anything at this point and am wondering if that is typical during day one or if I just suck during my first go at this.
It's typical. Townies only know their own role, so you just have to make it through Day 1, see who the mafia whacks on Night 1, and then look at D1 retrospectively to see if anything looks fishy.

Lol then thanks for not shitting on me right away. Tbh this game seems a little boring at this point if you guys are telling me the truth and nobody knows anything yet. Been 3 days. Hoping day 2 brings some fireworks and I can contribute.

Essentially, yes. A quiet game lets mafia hide. A talkative game lets townies parse through statements made and votes cast, while either making quiet mafia stand out or talkative mafia more likely to make a mistake. But at some point, all you can do is go with your gut feeling.

I think Kanye switched early for the same reason that he's always the person to tag the next drafters and try to wake people up during our Infinity Draft over the summer and our current Bonnaroo Draft. He is impatient, always online and wants to move things along. Pretty on brand for him.

As to the part I bolded: That's the crux of the game. What's important? What's not? I need to ask myself what you were thinking when you made this post. We're you truly asking, or are you just trying to blend in? And if I jump down your throat about what you just said or nitpick how you phrased it, there's a good chance I'll be wrong. There's also a good chance I'll jump down your throat just to see how you react. That's the part of the game the burns some people and makes them hate it.
Why is Tainted so quiet? Was there anything behind the fact that Thor checked in late? This early in the game, these things are usually not worth focusing on, but take note.

Yeah I know guys, I need to contribute more but my day 1 approach has historically been useless. I apologize for that, but I don't really have anything to go on early this game. I don't really care that Kanye pushed on me prematurely, the move doesn't resound as mafia so much as it does simply being ready to play. I realize after the last game that I need to keep that tempo or risk becoming a target of questionable tactics but I really don't have much to go on right now. Jortles, you said that Kanyes move seemed like typical Kanye - do you regularly play with any of the others in this game that you may be able to get a read on? Its good to have new players, especially new players that are aware of others mannerisms.

I've been in drafts with 5-6 of the people here I think. Not sure if it will continue to be useful moving forward, but I won't shy away from speaking up if I notice something.

yeah, thread to thread activity is definitely something to take into account. everyone's got excuses for posting different, and some are extremely valid, and some are really shaky.
