"Brockhampton is an American musical collective formed in San Marcos, Texas, in 2015 and currently based in California. Led by Kevin Abstract, Brockhampton formed partially through the online forum KanyeToThe, and define themselves as a boy band. In specifically labeling themselves in this way, as the members have repeatedly emphasized in interviews and on social media, they aim to reclaim or redefine the word, as their style does not fit neatly into the "boy band stereotype". Complex Magazine, indeed, describes the group as "gay, black, white, DIY, ambitious, all-inclusive, and would-be pop stars," and this diversity is what largely distinguishes their lyrics and sound."
Brockhampton blew up in 2017 with their Saturation trilogy, releasing three full-length albums in one year. In 2018 the group signed to Sony's RCA Records. According to label sources, the deal was worth more than $15 million for six albums over three years. The group also announced their 4th studio album "Puppy". Unfortunately, the album would be delayed indefinitely after sexual misconduct allegations against one of the founding members, Ameer Vann, came to light. Ameer was let go from Brockhampton following these allegations. However, that did not slow down the group. After canceling a few festival dates (including Bonnaroo) they were back to touring and recording new material. The group released three singles "1999 Wildfire", "1998 Truman", and "1997 Diana". They also recorded their follow up album "Iridescence" at Abbey Road Studios, which was released September 21st.
Sounds Like Brockhampton is a very large and diverse group. Some songs are hard-hitting bangers you can mosh to. Some songs sound like throwbacks to 90's boy bands. Your opinion could vary a lot depending on what you listen to first. But on each album you'll get a little bit of everything. Genre: hip hop/pop/experimental Similar Artists: Tyler the Creator, Kid Cudi, Kanye West Similar Bonnaroo Artists: Saba, Childish Gambino
First I suggest you start off with their opening track on the first Saturation album. It's arguably one of their heaviest songs, and it really grabs your attention. Each member is at their best. If you're a fan of some hardcore hip hop you should be able to enjoy this. Unfortunately, you'll probably never be able to hear it live anymore, as Ameer is featured prominently on the song.
On the same album you have "Star", which is one of Brockhampton's go-to bangers. There's a good chance you might hear this song performed a few times in one show.
The opening track on Saturation II is also a pretty fun song to get rowdy to
Tokyo is a great song if you love some OutKast inspired hip hop.
On the song "Junky", Matt Champion speaks out about rape culture, which is a topic not often explored in hip hop.
If you want a mushy pop song to listen to, this would be your track. Bearface (singer/guitar player) really shines. It's a huge singalong when performed live.
"Boogie" is another one of Brockhampton's go-to bangers. One of the funnest songs to get crazy and jump around to.
"Hottie" is a go-to song if you want a lighter, happier, pop song.
This is one of my personal favorite Brockhampton songs. Another very OutKast inspired track
In fact all of their singles released over the summer are pretty great and I suggest listening to them
Iridescence is the first album in a new trilogy, and really where their sound starts to change up a bit and go in a more experimental direction.
Live Show If you're up front expect a pretty rowdy experience. You'll probably be smushed up against each other for the first portion of the show until some of the pits start to open up (which the band always encourages). They still perform songs off the Saturation Trilogy, some of which they replace Ameer's verses with new ones.
This is the show I went to at the beginning of last year. Notice how the crowd moves to "Boogie". This was by far one of my favorite concerts last year.
This is an awesome concert they did around Coachella with a small orchestra.
This is what their most recent live shows look like since Iridescence

I was completely obsessed with BROCKHAMPTON during the Saturation era. The Sat II release was a really fun day. Like many other people have remarked, their fan base is incredibly young and that soured me on them a little bit (the Ameer stuff definitely didn't help), to the point where I wasn't too excited about iridescence and only listened to a couple of songs. I still had a ticket for their show, though, so I went and stood in the back (usually more of a pit person) and even then I had the best time. Went home and listened to iridescence for a week straight. Can't wait to be front and center dancing with a bunch of 15 year olds!!!!

Honestly, I'm only 24 and the youngness of their fan base also sours me a little. The hardcore stans are also just really weird.

Good LN option for me (if that's where they're scheduled). I know enough songs to have fun and they're good performers, but I wouldn't see them over Beach House, Courtney Barnett, Parquet Courts, Deafheaven or if they messed with me getting a good spot for Gambino. Don't fuck this up, AC.

I just need to ask... are you just actually Todd and we are all living in a BoJack simulation?
(I would never have truly guessed you were 24, because I was looking forward to meeting you. hint: I'm oldish)

Really hoping I can see Brockhampton on Friday, I think the only artists for me that have priority over them are Beach House and Courtney Barnett. I really wanna see Solange too, though.

You need to see Solange, especially if it's on What Stage. The show will be epic.

She was incredible at Panorama, even though we were crushed super tight into the crowd camping for Frank Ocean. Would love to see her again with a bit more elbow room
Next album GINGER out in August. Here's a leak of a song "SUGAR", prob a limited time thing before it gets DMCA'd but the song is dope. Better than most of Iridescence imo.
