Coriander “seed”, I’m guessing we are talking about, does not taste like soap to me. Guessing it doesn’t contains the aldehydes. This is a very prevalent concept in the plant world-that certain compounds are only present in the leaves or stalks or roots. Cooking and drying cilantro also cuts down on the aldehyde.
All of this being said, I am used to the taste and never ask for food without it. I just eat it anyway. And if a dish calls for it when I am making a meal for others, I include it. I’m just assuring you, as someone with such an acute palate that I can eat a meal and recreate it at home pretty easily because I can taste the individual spices and herbs used, if you are telling me that a sprig of fresh cilantro in your mouth does not taste exactly like a dab of Dawn dish soap and almost numb up your tongue, we are definitely not tasting the same thing, my brother in Christ.

I personally don't think cilantro tastes like soap, it's very fragrant though. I can't explain exactly what the taste is but it's like a fragranty, dirty, nasty ass flavor.
And coriander seed maybe the seed of cilantro but they do not taste the same.

I can deal with it but I prefer not to. The thing about cilantro is that, at least for me, it only affects the flavor of the bites that it is in. It doesn’t seem to change the overall dish in a way that I notice.

It does not to me. I use it all the time. I just had it in my burrito bowl at lunch.
Not here tell you you're wrong in how it impacts you. (But Vieux is.) I just feel bad that there's a common ingredient that a bunch of people don't enjoy.
Then again, I don't like fresh tomato so I'm kind of a monster...

I agree it's only the bite the cilantro is in that is effected by it's flavor. If it's big enough pieces, not a huge deal. If it's tiny pieces, mixed all up in there, I can't even risk it.
Idk why it's not dawn flavored for me, but I get the soap reference due to it being so fragrant. Or maybe I just didn't get my mouth rinsed out with soap enough to know that's what Dawn actually tastes like?

I think that's because it is generally used fresh in sprigs. So excluding something like Salsa or a chimichurri where you have it all chopped up in there, it's only in the bites you eat. I well may have the gene too, because it tastes like soap to me as well. And I generally don't like the taste of soap in my mouth, but for whatever reason, if I'm eating something that's supposed to have cilantro and lime and it's not there, it stands out in a negative way.
I need some suggestions from the New Orleans folks. Essentially we are going to have time for two meals (breakfast and lunch) on our way to Gulf Shores. Our plan is to stop in the French Quarter and Warehouse District and wonder around for a bit. Any suggestions would be appreciated

We decided last night we are going to drive in and stay one night so we'll be in town Thursday night thorough Friday around 2:00 pm. Really looking for more casual spots as far as attire goes. I don't mind paying for great food but would rather not have to wear a suit/tie.

Summer is the slowest time in New Orleans so they do this special released menus which are like three or four course meals for $20. And it's across a whole bunch of really nice restaurants also. I'll get you a couple of suggestions for Thursday and Friday for sure though.
Yeah, it's similar though we have Restaurant Week too. Coolinary has a maximum price they can charge depending on whether it's 2/3 courses. August, because of the heat, is the slowest tourist month so they wanted to do something to get locals out more since we're already here.
If I was going to do Coolinary and it was out of the French Quarter and Warehouse District/CBD, and if it was going to be more casual, I'd pick out of
Couvant, Domenica, Gianna, Justine, Muriels, Palm & Pine, Seaworthy (also has a late night oyster happy hour), SoBou,
Dressier: G.W. Fins, Arnaud's, Galatoires, Restaurant R'evolution, Pelican Club
If you just wanted to get something good and not worry about clothes or Coolinary, Killer Po'Boys, Cane and Table, Mr. B's, Sylvain, Acme or Felix's Oyster Bar. All those are good. Ruby Slipper is decent for breakfast, but they can get packed. It's not great, but people love it.
Since you'll be here Friday morning, a really cool and unique breakfast spot is Elizebeth's which is just along the Mississippi River just downriver from the French Quarter over in the Marigny/Bywater. It's maybe a $5.00 Uber or 15-20 block drive. This is a super unique New Orleans place. It's not blow-away, but I'd recommend it. Their praline bacon is mack.
Another breakfast place I've been wanting to go to is Molly's Rise and Shine. It was opened by Mason Hereford who won a James Beard Award for best new restaurant in America for 2017. It's a freaking sandwich shop which makes the award all the more remarkable. mollysriseandshine.com/
Once you look over the coolinary list and some of the other restaurants in the area you'll be staying, post them up and we'll tell you what we know about them. My two favorite restaurants in the city are G.W. Fins and Bayona, but they're both a little dressier. Neither is jacket and tie mandatory, but some people dress up to go those (suit and tie are like Antoine's, Arnaud's, Galatoires).

is killer po'boys the one in the back of some other bar (Rose's, I think? been about 8 years)
That was where they started, and they're still there in the back of Erin Rose. But they have their own brick and mortar now as well in the 200 block of Dauphine Street in the French Quarter.

Went to Pit Room and got some tacos. One of each. Chicken, brisket and pulled pork. The chicken tacos had whole cloves of roasted garlic on them but I wanted even more garlic. Brisket here is incredible.
