It’s close but I don’t think it is. Galette de rois translates to crackers of kings. If you look at the Queens cake it’s more breast inside with less paste. I want to try one of them queen cakes though.

We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

I was just thinking to myself how much I’d like to head down there and hang out with Vieux for Mardi Gras. But it is clearly not safe for girls from the Captain D’s club. I’ll just keep parading around my neighborhood all dressed up.

What am I missing in this post? What is the Captain D's club? Why can't you come down for Carnival? The house is trashed but I can clean it tomorrow after work. After tomorrow I have a four day weekend.

It was a big boobie joke, for the acquiring of the ingredients for the cakes. I had a hoot out loud laugh thinking of how the beads are a trap to spot the plumpest breasts for these cakes. It was all very funny in my head.

I definitely want to come down next year though.
So I have only ever participated in boobs/Mardi Gras tradition once. I was a few months preggo with Kyle and I still had a flat stomach but my tits were D's already. I flashed once and quickly discovered it wasn't worth it. We were on a balcony on Bourbon because my baby daddy was the chef there. Anyway, so after deciding that was a one and done deal, we started trying to get dudes to show their dicks. (I am about to sound like an asshole) Unbeknownst to these dudes showing their dicks, there were cops right around the corner. So as soon as the dick appeared, so did the cops. It was pretty hilarious to 22 year old me and my girl.
Definitely plan on coming down. We will do St. Ann's Parade which is in the bywater/Marigyn/Quarter on fat Tuesday. It is all homemade costumes no electrical vehicles and a day of people watching. It is pretty amazing. I am going to plan on you next year and will remind you of that.
I’m going to attempt to do a scratch pork and chili stew today based off the house version of beef stew but only loosely. Plan is to brown the pork with onions and flour, then add all the chilies (in this case 5 jalapeños a couple serranos and 3 poblanos) then use chicken stock and water for the liquid base. I have carrots, celery, one ear of fresh corn, some English peas, 2 red bell peppers, baby bellas, a zucchini and a couple baby purple potatoes. I’m sure something decent will come out of it, but I’m not sure exactly what it’s going to taste like. I’m not looking for pasole per se, more in the stew territory.
Edit - It’s still cooking down. I’ve had to continuously re-season with salt and cayenne because the pork didn’t take on enough flavor. I think the key would be to pressure cook it out or something then add the cubes to the stockpot before the liquid. It tastes good but the chops I used were pretty lean so I feel like they needed more stewing time as compared to beef or chicken.

Stew was fine. It needed more green chilies so I’ll have to make sure to adjust if I ever do that version again. I used really lean pork so it had to stew down for a while.
I woke up this morning hunkering for seafood. I passed by Bevi Seafood ( beviseafoodco.com/ )yesterday, but there was a line out the door. It’s crawfish season and lent so I wasn’t complaining but had to settle for something else. I knew they opened up at 11, so I made sure to get there for opening. I got a shrimp poboy dressed no mayo but cocktail sauce and boiled corn, sausage and potatoes. So so good, and that place smells perfect if you’re from the Deep South or SETX and know that boil smell. Happy Sunday to me and everyone else.

I missed the sambal conversation, but there was a point that my mom ate so much that she bought it by the GALLON. It's delish paired with hummus if you want an different use for it.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Yeah, I've had some "spicy hummus" before, and I think it was either sambal or sriracha put in there. I liked it. I also like when they sometimes put a little oil and herbs on top the hummus (assuming olive oil).
Yeah, the spicy sabra is a bit like that which is probably where we got our inspiration. Those always annoy me though because it's always plan hummus with the dash of whatever on the top. It's never enough for more than a few bites. We do it more like 50/50

Aren't you meant to stir it in? I always thought that was a presentation thing.

I personally wouldn't and risk stirring in bacteria and increasing the rate it can go bad, but I suppose if you are definitely eating it all, you could! I usually take a little scoop of the center and drag it out. In reality, I don't often get these types often though. My "newest" thing is drenching the hummus in everything but the bagel <3
EDIT: I a single person, so ensuring things last is a priority. No one to eat what what I buy/make besides me!

I mean, I think that the bacteria is there regardless of whether you stir it in or not. I'm only halfway through my food safety recertification, though, so maybe I've got clarification on that to come.
Anyways, I very much enjoy Wegmans' Everything Bagel Hummus.
Today was make salsa for chimichurri-crusted skirt steak tacos for St Patrick’s day parade in the O.M. tomorrow. I took an early trip to I-de-al and got a bunch of normal shit you want to have (avocado cilantro lime serranos tomatoes and shit. I had some ripe heirlooms at the crib because they come in handy. Then we used yellow lolly pop cherry tomatoes and a dragon fruit and 1 1/2 nectarines. Mangoes didn’t look fully ripe but I’m weak on that call. The Latin market had baby mangoes but I don’t know how to tell them either. Roasted off corn, poblanos, jalapeños, tomatillos, etc. it was pretty fucking good but needs to set overnight and co-mingle so it can be checked tomorrow for any deficiencies. It’s not green, but it’s got green shit in it.

it's become a tradition for my wife to take my daughter out to pick out donuts every year on her birthday. today we decided to try a new place near our house (instead of driving a little further to Gibon's, the goat). it's much closer and had some pretty good reviews. my wife ordered 8 of 4 flavor varieties. she didn't realize the place makes mini donuts, and you order by the dozen. they are fried-to-order, not like collected from a donut case, so we couldn't just send them back.
so now we have 8 dozen mini donuts. to top it off they are more like funnel cakes than donuts. my daughter ate 1 and decided she didn't like them. i'm not huge on sweets and the the flavors my daughter picked out (fruity pebbles, chocolate sprinkles, leprechaun, and chocolate/glazed) are just too damn rich. i could only eat 2 or 3 before giving up.
gonna end up throwing out about 6 dozen mini donuts.

Why tf can't I find Horizon Organic in any store in town? I usually drink the 2% (prefer the 1% but that's always hard to find), but I can't find it at Whole Foods, Fresh Market Winn Dixie or Rouse's. I don't know if it has something to do with the Ukraine war (organic grain?), logistical shit or what it might be, but I'm not happy about it. Decent organic milk isn't that much to ask especially when you only use it for iced coffee. For iced coffee, we drink French Truck which is only available in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Memphis (which is about to open their second location soon) as far as I know. Preference is for the Medium Roast.
I bought some Mississippi Cold Drip out of Jackson today. I'd been seeing it on the shelves and was wondering about it. I got salted caramel (though I generally don't drink flavored coffees). It's pretty good except the alternative organic milk I got tastes like cream.
According to their website, they also have Chai concentrate which would be delicious because I love me some chai but didn't know it came in concentrate form. For coffees, they have Mississippi Mocha, Mississippi Turtle, Salted Caramel, Mocha Peppermint, Mill Street Vanilla, Hazelnut, Pumpkin Spice, chai & coffee concentrate.

during one of the fast food survivor threads i think i said something snarky about bonefish. couple of weeks ago melody and i were out in west mobile hoping to try out this new mexican place, but it was packed. we drove around a bit and somehow ended up at bonefish. it was delicious, and the service was fantastic. everything was fresh and tasty and i didn't feel like fat garbage when i left. anyway no more snarky bonefish comments from me.
too expensive to eat there regularly but it was a nice treat.

It’s not bad. It’s part of OSI. They have Flemings too which is very upscale. It’s just that living on the Gulf Coast, you should be able to get substantially better seafood.

The chef/owner of the restaurant where I had my last meal recommended an off menu dessert that her pastry chef made, called “Passion of the Strawberry”. Basically just a tittie cake. Nice work Italy.

I saw it before I read and was like, ahh a tittie dessert. Lol
