Jesus Christ there are few things I hate food-wise more than olives
None of my chilrins like them either. Doesn't matter on what or in what. Oddly enough they all love olive oil, so I guess that's good enough for some people. What's kind of strange is they all love capers though. Capers aren't that close to olives but there are some similarities.
I actually love capers too (and olive oil). The capers thing confuses me, too. I feel like if I love them, that I should at least tolerate olives, but alas...

I SEE YOU. I HEAR YOU. I HARD RELATE.
Capers + lox + cream cheese = only bagel toppings I want
Yup at Russ and Daughters! Had to wait on line but it was worth it.
And yes I intentionally used the weird new York vernacular.
I say “in line”!
Also Russ & Daughters is great. I have other bagel place suggestions if you need the next time, but when it comes to the lox, R&D is gonna be hard to beat. Good choice!

I like this with a thin slice of summer tomato and a squeeze of lemon added. Heaven.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Capers are so good. I wish they were used more in dishes.
Piccata 👀
Instantly came to mind. Piccata rules and is one of the easiest dishes to cook. What I dont understand is with how much I love capers, caper berries aren’t as good to me.

I just went and ate some out the jar and they were good but much better balanced with lemon/butter/creamy stuff. The thread reminded me I ate out somewhere in Pensacola a while back that used really big capers. So I looked that shit up. Capers are named by their sizes and are the bud that eventually flowers and produces the caper berry. No shit, but I didn’t know that shit.
Puttanesca is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of capers. It's one of my favorite sauces.
You make it? I never tried but I know it’s a relatively simple dish with zesty ingredients.
Yeah from time to time. It's super simple and doesn't take as long as like a Bolognese or something like that.
I believe I originally used this NYT recipe but I've kind of memorized it at this point. I put a good amoung of red pepper flakes to really up the heat and make it even more of a flavor bomb.
Same,. So yummy. Cafe Envie on Decatur in the French Quarter has one that I used to go and get when I worked at Where Magazine. Nom nom nom
What was the place down there that had all those coffee alcohol drinks - Kaldi’s I think? Are they still open?
Kaldi's hasn't been open since the 90s. But Cafe Envie does the alcohol coffees also. Some really great sounding flavors. Molly's in the Market has that amazing frozen Irish Coffee.

I prefer my cream cheese to be scallion and I like thinly sliced red onion on it too. Most of my fam does tomato (and some do avocado) as well, but I feel like it's just too much. My family is all from Queens and I still have a bunch of family there and visit often, so lox brunches are definitely a mainstay in my family.
