I want banana bread, but no matter how many bananas I buy...we always eat them before they're ready for bread (dark brown and squishy).
Buy them yellow, immediately freeze them. I only eat then when they're slightly yellow with a little green still. Once they are "ripe" I won't eat them, so I just freeze them. I always have banana bread makings, it's like the only thing I could make at anytime. 🤷♀️

I put vanilla syrup in my Mountain Dew at the Buc-ee's fountain. Been doing that for like a decade now, too. Teddy pointed out the Dew has an orange flavor to it too so I guess it's a similar combo going on.

My husband is from NC and is OBSESSED with Cheerwine, which is a cherry soda made out there... I found it here in California and it took everything to keep myself from spitting it out because it tasted like straight up cough syrup! So grosssssssss.

I used to have a roommate that drank nothing but. When I was making BBQ one night, I realized I was out of root beer and used Cheerwine instead. Perhaps my biggest cooking faux pas to date.
Even that kid who loved it texts me yearly to mark the anniversary of that.

I'm back to buying donuts at our local market stand 2-3 times a week (it's only open 3 days a week). They aren't the best donuts, but they are dang good. Eva is a local woman who owns the donut stand, and she makes cake donuts - so she has powedered, glazed, and plain. But then she also makes gourmet toppings for them to have six "specialty" flavors every week. Coffee Toffee is a staple - a coffee glaze with toffee bits on top. Lately she's been doing a blueberry glaze that is just divine. I also tried the Lemon Fennel and that was super interesting.
Also got a cheesesteak from The Cheesesteak Guy in the market last week. And the gluten free pizza crust at the market stand is the best one my wife has ever had (I can't tell it's gluten free either when we split a pizza).

You had me all the way until "Lemon Fennel." Love lemon, but hate fennel. A blueberry cake donut is one of my favorite things in life.
I'm not a big soda drinker, but when I do have the craving, a Vanilla Dr. Pepper is my go-to.
I gave up soda 2 years ago for seltzer and this thread is making me crave a Diet Vanilla Pepsi so bad

I can’t handle sweet drinks at all. I’ve been given sweet tea a couple of times when I ordered unsweet and have tried to just drink it, but I could only get through a few sips. This is exactly how i feel. I wasn't ever a big soda drinker, but I would have a coke or 7up or whatever every now and again. Now all I drink is sparkling water, and i prefer unflavored (Perrier, Ozarka, San Pel though it loses carbonation faster, Topo Chico or whatever). If a higher end cocktail is on the sweeter side, I'm perfectly fine with that. I'll drink some tropical shit or a bushwhacker or julep all day. But I don't like soft drinks and don't put sugar in my coffee or tea. I'm not drinking a Jack and Coke. And I really hate sugar substitutes (saccharin, aspartame, etc.). Yuck fucking chemicals.
Benefit of getting back to normal is being able to get back to going out to eat. I've been in Louisiana this week, so I took my kids out last night to Maypop. That's chef Gulotta's place. He was former chef de cuisine at Restaurant August which is one of the best restaurants in New Orleans. But he likes funk. And he loves cooking Asian. And for an Italian guy, he's fucking great at it. They pickle, ferment and rot everything so where you get flavor on top of flavor on top of flavor. It's usually not that expensive, but the 5 of us (meaning me) ran up tab+tip of $450.00. The funk was evident. Since we're all double vaccinated, we didn't mind sharing bites here and there. So I got to eat a bunch of random shit. What was different about this trip as compared to the other 3 times I went, was the current menu focused pretty heavily on Thai flavors. He's often more in a Viet or Korean mode. We split 3 appetizers, got bread service and all got an entree followed up with some funky ass and not very sweet deserts.
Appetizers: 1) Crispy Fried Oysters with bourbon barrel soy aioli, manchego cheese, spicy cucumber/radish stack 2) Whole roasted bone marrow with crawfish and green garlic curry with spring peas and delicious warm roti bread 3) Guanciali (house made) over roasted spring onion with cashew romesco and fresh herbs
Entrees 1) Beef Short Rib in Rendang Curry (that's coconut and beef) with crispy yucca, pickled mirlitons, papaya slaw and some fried purple potatoes 2) Hot smoked duck ham over cashew butter sticky rice with spring onion jeow, lemmongrass and crispy shallot sambal 3) Gulf Shrimp in smoked paprika curry over cheesy (pepperjack) grits with warm trinity salad 4) Semolina Garganelli pasta in coconut milk alfredo with curried blue crab (spicy tomato red curry, lemongrass sausage, basil)
The bread service was homemade annatto sesame rolls (so orange colored rolls with sesame on top) with coconut butter and shellfish pepper jam. The coconut butter had to be fermented because it was probably the most pungent thing I tried. But it worked nicely with that shellfish pepper jam though I actually preferred it with just the jam.

Doing the keto thing has brought me back some spark in the kitchen, which is good. However, I feel like the Reuben casserole I just put in the oven is gonna be an absolute disaster, will check back soon
