I can’t believe I’m coming back to this subject again but my sister got a box of Milk Bar cookies as a gift recently and she gave me a cornflake chocolate chip marshmallow cookie. It was good, it tasted like a really crunchy s’mores, with less emphasis on the chocolate and more on the marshmallow. The big emphasis was more on the contrasting textures between the marshmallow and the cornflakes. Not sure how I feel about a cookie where the point is really more so about the concept than about the taste, but it was still pretty good. I think I’m still going to make Christina Tosi’s smores cookies soon since it seems like a similar idea but less fussy.
Bring milk bar to Bonnaroo and I’ll pay you for your cost to make if I can eat one. I don’t know that I’ve ever had one before.

Got a friend coming to NWFL this weekend who has to face some major health decisions and issues. But she likes juice. I made a pitcher of about 18 McIntosh apples, 4 pink lady’s, a pint and a half of blueberries, a bag of black seedless grapes and a thing (?) of ginger. She generally likes fennel and carrots and beets in her juices, but this shit is Professor Utonium level. I got lucky.

There’s a chocolate shop in the Denver Central Market called Temper. They sell a Sea Salt Dark Chocolate Caramel Graham Cracker, and it may be the greatest thing I’ve ever eaten.

Are you doing clean keto, dirty keto or just low-carb? I have an AMAZING cheesecake recipe if you are doing dairy.
I also have a great cracker recipe that tastes like a softer version of Club crackers, ish. It is pure keto.
I trend more towards “low-carb”, as opposed to “keto”. Duncan Hines makes a fucking fantastic dessert too. They have stevia and there is always some back and forth there. I think they are better than Birch Benders little dessert cups. But Birch Benders also makes waffles and stuff.
Another low carb, but not keto thing I do is cut up and deep fat fry Aldi’s or another brands low carb tortillas and make chips, including some with cinnamon and monk sugar ones that are similar to churros.
You may already know all of this, but hope it helps. Let me know if you want either of those recipes.

IMO, the packaged pantry versions of Milk Bar cookies that they sell at Target, Whole Foods, etc. are disappointing. They're somehow different than the ones you order for delivery from Milk Bar's website and/or get from the actual shops.

strongly agree. we did just find 3 flavors of the new milk bar ice cream that i'm looking forward to eating soon.

i just used a standard recipe, but halved the last banana and pushed it into the batter right before baking. it seems to have worked how i thought it would and didn't mess with the texture or anything. food52.com/recipes/10424-banana-bread

Cookie update: these turned out really good. I think I put my first batch too close together and overbaked them by a minute because they kind of clumped up together and the marshmallow really oozed out the sides. But the second batch was shaped perfectly and came out nicely. And they taste great, too. I think I like my cookies bigger and imperfect than the same-flavor-in-every-bite perfection of the Milk Bar stuff (see also: Sweet Martha's, maybe my all time favorite cookie).

it was my father-in-laws birthday a couple weekends ago and he wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse. typically we avoid big sit down "american" chains like Texas Roadhouse, Outback, etc. but hey it's his birthday and i love him and his daughter.
it'd been a while since we ate at Texas Roadhouse (probably for father-in-law's birthday in years past). but they bring you these big buttery rolls, then we got two apps and everybody got the chop steak with fries and it was all like pretty good and the bill was like $40? maybe a little more, my wife paid but it was so inexpensive. so i guess i get why places like that are so packed on a tuesday at 5:30pm.
not going to change our dining habits though. 95% of the time when we go out to eat it's for indian, middle eastern, thai, vietnamese, etc. the kind of stuff i can't cook at home.

I also avoid chain sit down restaurants like the plague but the last time we went to a Texas Roadhouse (like 2ish years ago? Someone gave us a gift card...) we were pleasantly surprised. Those rolls are fire. And the steaks were actually cooked to the proper temperatures.
Actually makes sense that a theme parkey version of a Texas roadhouse would be started well outside of Texas.

My first meal out in a sit down restaurant post vaccine was at Sizzler and it was delicious. Their cheese toast cannot be beat. Although I do have a soft spot for the place because Ive gone there for my birthday every year since 1990 or so. Just bummed it might be a while til my parents can go back cause I havent seen an indication as to when their all you can eat salad bar will return.

They probably added a preservative to keep them more shelf stable for the big stores. I mean when you go to a milk bar store you figure they dont keep stuff out there too long cause its meant to be baked, packaged and sold in no time.
