Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever because who doesn't love some Aussie Surf Rock?
The Basics Members: Fran Keaney, Tom Russo & Joe White - vocals & guitar, Joe Russo - bass guitar, and Marcel Tussie - drums Biography: "Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, the band was formed in 2013 by Fran Keaney, Tom Russo & Joe White. After then releasing a handful of digital singles, the band made their official recorded debut with the single "Clean Slate" in 2015, which won plenty of praise from the music press. In early 2016, Ivy League Records dropped RBCF's first EP, Talk Tight, which earned them more positive press and some Australian radio airplay. In November 2016, the long-running American indie label Sub Pop announced that they'd signed a deal with Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever." (stolen directly from their Spotify "About" section). Major Discography: Hope Downs - Debut LP released in 2018 featuring "Talking Straight" which was preceded by to EPs: The French Press and Talk Tight. The former features a song by the same name which is arguably their most popular to date
Genre: 1970s power pop, 1980s college rock and early 2000s indie rock with those damn sexy Austrailan accents Similar Artists: Allah-Las, Ty Segall, Iceage, The Beths, The Orielles (most of these are a stretch) Similar Bonnaroo Artists : Parquet Courts, Courtney Barnett, Catfish & The Bottlemen
Suggested Listening All their official releases are on Spotify and are relatively short. I'd start with the Full Length LP; I thought it was one of the best albums of 2018
As for some live items:
Physical Reaction/Live Show They bring great energy to their performances, but are still relatively unknown. There will be plenty of people who get really into it and thrash about but for most I imagine this will be a nice head bopping way to start their Bonnaroo weekend
Personal Notes I had zero expectations that Thursday would have anything interesting, but seeing these guys on the poster instantly got me excited. A perfect groove based rock band to kick off a four day weekend sounds sublime to me. Fun will be had, beers will be drank, and some fun stage banter will happen. What more could you want?
