For option 2, it’s mostly a wash like Jaz alluded to.
That's not what I was alluding to at all. I think your self imposed limits are unnecessary - putting your vote on someone with 0 (as you've now done with your vote for me) opens up options for everyone. It's early, no reason to think votes won't switch.

I drew a name randomly and decided not to deviate from that, because I always go with RNG. That particular scenario hadn't come up before. I thought better of it later.
And since its agarr's first game, I don't think he really knows any better/different.
ZIG why wasn't pushing Dan to 3 an option for you? Because you knew we'd get back to a 4 person runoff Im assuming?
Im confused as to why we were pushing people up to 3 votes right away in the first place.
I have done lots of crazy shit on Day 1 but I have always advocated for having a 4-person runoff to start the game. Me bumping a 3rd person to 3 votes makes it even harder to get back to a 4-person runoff.

What do you mean by self imposed limits.?
You're saying that putting your vote on someone with 0 isn't a viable option, it's "dumping" your vote, etc. I disagree with that. It's like you'd limited yourself to only the players who currently held votes.

Gotcha. That's what I thought but I wanted to make sure. I imagined the debate was between 4 and 5 as opposed to 4 and 3 anyways.

I think making odd stacks on page 1 and 2 can be a good thing for town, because it makes people start moving, which referencing back to later in the game can be useful.

I didn’t say JTR shouldn’t have placed his vote on someone with 0 votes, it was that he chose me and that choice eliminated options for me, which at the time, I was the only person still required to vote. Plus it put him in more jeopardy because if I had chosen to stack, it would have been him.
I ultimately think it’s not a huge deal, just that I felt I saw a more logical option that could have given us more info.

And I'm saying that it didn't eliminate any options for you; hence "self-imposed limits". Agreed though, not a huge deal so if my point isn't getting across I don't think it's worth going back and forth about.
Is it a good idea to add another to runoff or keep at 4?
Since you're asking, if you bumped it up to 5 I wouldn't think much of it.
As a general stategy, I look at bumping a runoff from 4 to 5 as a sign that there's a mafia member in the 4, and that adding someone to the runoff increases the chances of the mafia surviving. So I always view that skeptically. Of course, that doesn't mean the increase from 4 to 5 comes from someone in the mafia.

Wouldn't more on the runoff mean more of a chance of getting someone who is in mafia in the runoff though? I definitely see your point of view.
It is day one though so I guess it's really hard to get a read on people anyway so it isn't like it would matter

A random generation of 4 people in the game is likely to nab something like 1.3 mafia members. I don't know what it would be like to add a 5th.
This is why who doesn't get D1R1 votes matters as well. We know mafia are voting with more knowledge than townies, so those without votes could be lucky townies but could also be mafia members that are being purposely avoided.
