The Basics Members: Charles Michael Parks Jr. (Vocals/multi-instrumentalist), Ben McLeod (Guitar) and Robby Staebler (Drums) Biography: Nashville's psych/blues/stoner rock outfit have been road warriors since their formation in 2012, touring small to mid-sized venues across the world. Now, after their fifth studio album release (ATW), the band looks poised to make the next big jump. Major Discography: ATW (2018) is their newest release (and a solid one at that), Lightning at the Door (2015) is, in my opinion, the band's best work and Live in Brussels (2016) offers a great glimpse at the intensity of their shows.
Sounds Like Genre: Psych/Blues/Stoner Rock that makes you want to jump on a motorcycle and head West. Similar Artists: The Black Angels, Kadavar, Black Mountain Similar Bonnaroo Artists: Cherry Glazerr, The Record Company, Parquet Courts, Mac DeMarco (-ish on all of these)
Suggested Listening Definitely check out the albums listed in the Basics above. Those three albums should give you a solid idea on All Them Witches' diverse sound.
Live at Rockpalast 2016 (Full Performance):
"Diamond" music video from ATW (2018):
Performing my favorite song of theirs, The Marriage Of Coyote Woman, on Bonnaroo's Who Stage in 2015 (You can see the fireworks from Mumford and Sons' headlining show in the distance around the midway mark.):
Physical Reaction/Live Show Expect a full range of emotion from their shows...fast/meandering, uplifting/depressing, fuzzy/clear...a lot of guitar and heavy vocals. The show will have dark undertones, both in member performance and stage effects (lighting, not sure if they will use video as they haven't in the past). In the crowd, there will be crazy moments to match other times of calm.
Personal Notes One of my favorite things about festivals is having time to roam and explore, try new things, discover new bands. I had no interest in seeing Mumford and Sons at Bonnaroo 2015, so walking up to this show with zero expectations and leaving as a fan was a highlight of my night. I'm excited to see them on a bigger stage (tent) this year, and you should be too!
I saw them open for Mastodon, knew who they were but hadn't really gotten into them, they were fucking great.
They are a perfect band to just happen to catch. I've seen them two other times since their Bonnaroo 2015 show and they haven't missed a step. Hope this is a big year for them!
