Hey MD peeps, my brother and I are having a friendly debate over which is the best way to get to I-81 from B-more. He wants to take 495 to 66 to I-81 and I think we should take I-70 to I-81 to avoid DC traffic. Settle this debate please. ;D ;D

I may or may not be able to help you . . . It really all depends on when you plan on departing. I've gone both ways and the difference isn't vast enough to make a real difference. But if you plan on driving between 4 and 8 pm, take I-10 for exactly the reason you said, DC traffic sucks.

Being just North of Baltimore, it's actually shorter for me to go through I-70. But 70 gets backed up just as much as 495. Well, maybe not that bad, but it's still not pleasant during rush hour. I plan on leaving a little after 6 on Weds and drive through the night. Hopefully 70 will be starting to open up when I leave.
All things being equal, I agree with you, and I like to avoid the DC beltway whenever possible.
