I’m being downvoted to oblivion on reddit for pointing out this has basically no star power. Not that you need “stars” to be good, but it was always awesome to see a bunch of legends on stage together. This is a bunch of “who?” and a few guys who sort of kind of worked with some legends at some point in their careers

Plus there’s no getting past Hobo Johnson 🤮
I very much agree though I suppose there’s still a window of opportunity for more adds. I wanna say that the past couple of years that they did a *couple* rounds of artist additions for the Superjam.

Radiating positivity, Griz is an enthusiastic young man. His music is always danceable and fun. I think he gives a shit and will really try to make this good. The question is whether or not he is able to.
Getting a bunch of musicians who aren't necessarily familiar with each other to do a bunch of covers with minimal rehearsal time is a hell of a challenge.

The lack of star power doesn't bother me THAT much. Apparently Paul...whatever his name was that did Superjams for 2011-2014 was really damn good at his job.
This could still be a fun time. Brockhampton doesn't do that much for me and I've seen Girl Talk 4 times. So this is the play unless its super crowded. Then I'll be getting Grimey.
But with so many people, even if Hobo Johnson gets on stage and gags on the mic, he'll be gone in 4 minutes. Not the worst.

honestly I’m sure it’ll at least be decent. But great? Idk. I might end up wandering over if I’m not feeling Brockhampton and/or Girl Talk, but this is the first year since I’ve been going that the level of intrigue isn’t really enough to pull me.

I agree and I’m sure it will be at worst a pretty good show, but considering the level on talent on the lineup this year, that this is what they managed to pull together means it’s a big hill to climb. The top billed guest here is the singer of Walk the Moon ffs
There are a couple suck singers, but there is more than ample talent at the Superjam. In fact, that's probably as much musical talent as you'd ever see barring a return of Pres Hall or something.
GRiZ Jennifer Hartswick James Casey Bowie's Blackstar Band's horn section Nikki Glaspie Naughty Professor Horns even Sunsquabi are talented regardless of whether anyone likes jamtronica
The way I see it, (already made clear why I could care less about seeing either Brockhampton or Girl Talk again) the only musically* credible alternative is Balkan Bump. I won't probably go over there, but he's a pretty good trumpet player from Low Temp (Gramatik's label) who plays kind of swanky EDM jazz mixed in with klezmer and Eastern European/Slavic passages.
^^ W/ Talib Kweli & Aymo
* Obviously fun counts for something too, so if people are going to see Girl Talk for the mashups or Brockhampton for the hype and social commentary, have at it. That's not a knock on you or them.
Guessing with the passing of Dr. John, GRiZ will add a tribute song to the GOAT Superjam. right place/wrong time, Such a Night, Iko Iko or Mac’s Boogie would do.

I doubt a dr John song gets played in the superjam. If anyone does something of his I bet jim James does during his set
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Jim James would be the most likely to pull something off, but GRiZ is no stranger to the city. He stops in to work a couple times a year. He knows what’s up plus Naughty Professor, Nikki Glaspie and all them are from here. Might just be a bar or two, but I can see them throwing out that tribute.
Unless I missed it before, Superjam added Nattali Rize and Muzzy Bear. Maybe Natalli does some Marley? I’ve seen Muzzy probably 6 or 7 times with GRiZ because he usually travels and plays guitar with him.
JRAD will be doing the Dr. John Tribute...most likely Iko Iko and then Marco singing Such a Night
The more I think about it the more I think I'm going to have to leave TLI early and catch the full JRAD set. Too many possibilities for great moments with sit-ins, special songs, etc. Would hate to miss anything.
I really hope the first 45 of this is good or that Phish goes long Friday night cause I just don’t think Brockhampton is for me. Once RL and Girl Talk start up I’ll be grooving again for sure.

I think this will have one or two of Matt Berninger, Hayley Williams, Solange or Post as a special guest. Post seems to always show up randomly to shows and rock out. Not seeing his set, but would love for him to show here.
