First thing I'm noticing is that with the last two votes, SFA moved off of JTR, which isn't too big a deal considering that JTR was up to 3. However, JTR then, when choosing between SFA and Potent (or any player with no votes), he just Potent over SFA. Not necessarily indicative of anything, but worth noting.
Secondly, the point that I was waiting on JTR for, was that (prior to JTR's vote) only Dan voters are voting for Dan voters now and vice versa, but I had missed Potent's Thor vote when looking at things, so that point is wrong.

Sorry for my inactivity today yall. I was on a 27-ish hour bus ride yesterday and I found it basically impossible to sleep on the bus so I woke up for a second there this morning and went back to bed. I trust y'all's count was accurate.

I'm going to assume the Tainted whack was meant to find inspector. I think that's probably the better bet than assuming they didn't want to give town anything to go on. I also remember someone (can't remember who) saying a few games back that mafia really only goes for inspector with their whacks when we haven't had a reveal and that's always stuck to me since reading it. Obviously this isn't always the case but I think it's a better bet. So assuming they thought Tainted was inspector, he had the post about him strategizing. And at the time of this post we had this runoff:
Thor - 4 (Taint, Dan, Agar, Kanye) Dan - 4 (Jortles, SFA, Potent, Jaz) Taint - 3 (Thor, Maddog, JTR)
Tainted as inspector would probably not vote along side his given name. Given the two people Tainted hinted at, Kanye and Potent,
JTR > Potent
Two points as to the bolded statements:
1. It always strikes me as odd when players in this thing of ours (h/t Jake Jortles) view a Day One whack as *either* a shot at inspector, or misdirection. Every time I've been mafia, it's basically both. Why are some so myopic on this point?
2. The one time (in something like 35 games I've played) I was inspector, I'm pretty sure I voted alongside my given name specifically because the theory on Inforoo is that inspector doesn't vote with given name. Another point on which I wish the town wasn't so myopic.

I’m voting for jortles and was a Thor voter
Yeah, though you weren't gonna vote for yourself so it doesn't mean much. Regardless, my point was admittedly wrong for other reasons, I only mentioned it because people don't like when I have cryptic theories and don't share haha.

Fair enough. I figured I was the exception there, just wanted to make sure everything was accurate.

Yeah these are both fair points. To your first one though, if it’s basically both, then would both I and Jortles be correct in our assessment?

I have no idea who is correct in the assessment. I'm also not exactly clear on what Jortles was saying on the whack. You, in reading it as an attempt at the inspector, would be reading it halfway like I am. I think it's always an attempt at the inspector. I just think sometimes there are the added benefits of tying someone to the whack. When I was quiet D1, whacking somebody to frame me seems to be an easy choice, at least from my point of view.
i thought that really long post about why revotes were good was just a really distracting post. super long, used examples that didn't apply. that was the main thing.
also, noticed this going back just now (after I voted), before he moved these people were set to revote, Jortles, SFA, Potent, who as luck would have it, have all ended up in our current runoff. doesn't mean a lot, but clearly there are people who have some level of suspicion and Jaz made the move that kept them from voting, which, to me would have been more helpful (but we don't need to rehash that).
that whack was easy, tainted didn't say anything. i don't think he was inspector, just an easy off that doesn't point in any direction, and at best people are going to latch onto his troll-y posts as 'evidence'.

iirc his vote was before it was a 2 person, so his vote does mean something. unlike thors for dan, which meant nothing.

in fact, he was the initial stack onto thor, moving off of Jaz.

This is basically what I always argue.
1. Priority is inspector
2. Consider how the town will react to the whack. Who does it set up?
This fluctuates depending on what happened in the round. Sometimes you have a clearer idea of inspector and don't consider the secondary benefits as much. If it's a toss-up, you might be persuaded more by the level of disinformation/set-ups that you can cause.

Little early morning tangent while waiting for potentpotables...
Im on board with not liking “gut feeling” as a reason for votes. We should press people to search their gut and describe where that feeling is coming from more often.
I suppose the reasons people don’t want to explain would be one of the following:
1. Nervous that an explanation would lead to scrutiny, whereas “gut feeling” is just accepted across the board. 2. Laziness - lack of analysis of why you feel the way you do 3. Possible embarrassment about how obscure your line of thinking is 4. You think you have a good “tell” and don’t want to spoil it
Totally ok with #4, but generally speaking I think we should expect an explanation out of every vote. I know it’s taxing, and oftentimes our votes aren’t influenced by strong thoughts that we are proud of, but its still helpful to the Town to know where everyones head is at.
Jortles - though I don’t love people citing gut feeling, I also think it’s probably at least somewhat genuine on day 1, especially with a game that started as slowly as this one. If you press people to “introspect” and basically come up with reasoning when there isn’t really any, there’s a good chance you’re just gonna get bullshit rationale. In other words, people will come up with “logic” that really didn’t play into the decision initially.
Later in games, I’m all for pressing people for explanations. But early when there’s little to work with, eh.
That all said, I do think people should be pressed when literally all they’re doing to contribute to discussion is voting.

I will obviously switch if necessary in the name of self-preservation, but I'd prefer not to.
Although the whack could very well be total misdirection, a 3-way runoff of myself, JTR and Jaz is one that almost completely ignores the whack all together. That's a little unsettling.
I’d switch to Potent but I still am not a huge fan of JTR’s minimal contribution. Also really the only significant things for me with Potent are his switch last round and Tainted’s comments (& those only hold weight if he was inspector - which I personally don’t really think was the case).
