What good reason could Elizabeth Warren possibly have for remaining in this race?
1. She won the Nevada debate. 2. She landed the first blow against Bloomberg, hopefully crushing his chances. 3. She had a huge fundraising month. 4. She is second in the CBS News national poll released today.
While I understand what SupeЯfuЯЯyanimal is saying about her making the argument she's the "unity" candidate, I think it helps Bernie when she takes more support from the centrists. If Bernie gets to 30% nationally and Liz gets to 20%, I think it gives us a chance of having the most progressive candidate the Dems have put up in awhile. I don't think Liz actually impacts Bernie's support that much.
We should be asking why Bloomberg is in the race, and why Klobuchar and Pete are in the race, before we ask why Liz is in the race (in my opinion, of course I'm a Liz guy).
Yeah I question Liz only because I feel like she does pull some of the more liberal vote from Bernie, who I support. She's definitely my number 2. I only don't question the others because I feel like they're all pulling each other down. You make good points about her surging after the debate though, and I hadn't seen that new national poll
I want Amy Klodhopper, Pete Buttplug, Buy-the-election Bloomberg, and Old Joe Biden to stay in as long as possible. They are dividing the “centrist” votes.
Liz can stay in as long as she keeps flame throwing Bloomberg.

My roommate made a good point in saying all these centrist candidates staying in makes it hard for voters and the DNC to unite behind one person. This definitely works in Bernie's favor.
Crazy that Joy Reed went on a rant tonight that was a pretty damn good analysis of why the working class is supporting Sanders despite everything the MSM says about him. It's almost like she gets it and could be talking about this more often? It's not like you don't have 24 hours a day to do that type of stuff.

Ive been watching these two clips a lot today.

In reply to the Liz Warren discussion. I feel like recently she’s really avoided attacking Sanders. I wonder if she is sticking around just to stop Bloomberg. Last night in Seattle, she congratulated Sanders and started digging right in on Mike.

Yep, the more people that are staying in the race the better. The fact that Steyer and Bloomberg entered the race doesn't give Biden or Buttigieg any favors. I think if Yang stayed in longer, he would've probably hurt Liz and Bernie a bit aswell I think..
In 2016 I feel like it was Hillary against Bernie from the get go. This time you got multiple candidates fighting for the same amount of percentages; Biden and Buttigieg are pulling similar numbers. If either of them pulls out, that's gonna result in a big change I think cause I think there's a lot of cross-over between the two.

Do you think maybe it also has to do with possibly being Sanders’ VP?

I have a hard time seeing him picking her as VP. As close as they are politically and personally I don't think 2 white septuagenarians is the best way to go. I'm guessing he'd pick Stacey Abrams or Tammy Baldwin, which would give a diverse ticket and possible edge in critical states

Don't forget that it would be two left-wing white septuagenarians from New England. Bernie really can't pick Tammy Baldwin though. I'm nervous enough about Wisconsin in statewide elections (Scott Walker should have had his ass handed to him a long time ago, and even when he lost it was real close). Wisconsin is a state that uses special elections to fill US Senate seats, and the Gov (currently a D) does not appoint a fill-in. A VP Tammy Baldwin would leave the D's down 1 in a chamber badly needed in the first 100 days of the Sanders Administration, and that assumes it's only the first half of his first year if D's keep that WI Senate seat. This is a really bad tactical option. Abrams is a much better option.
“Pete Buttigieg was reportedly “chased down” in South Carolina by Black Voters Matter activists while attending a demonstration with striking McDonald’s workers in support of raising the minimum wage”

Does anyone recall a couple weeks ago how I criticized #theresistence for their constant homophobic jokes involving Putin and Trump? Bloomberg's account had to delete tweets tonight because they made the same stupid joke about Bernie and Putin.
Gonna sit back and wait for CNN to talk about the toxic culture in that campaign. Shouldn't be long I'm sure.
Also, Bernie is killing this town hall tonight. A lot better prepared then he's been the last week or so.

Yeah I saw those tweets. It was a bunch of "Bernie praised Castro....so let's get crazy and act like he loves other authoritarian leaders". And the Putin one was about lusting over his shirtless body. It's so ridiculous and crazy. Trying to find the tweet now but it was pointing out how Bloomberg spent a ton of money hiring a former Twitter exec to handle his online shit which resulted in.....gay jokes.

Bernie has a bad habit of not centering the conversation and letting the media(on purpose or not) spin things. The whole Castro thing started with a video of him explaining why the people in Cuba didn't raise up against him(I believe in reference to the bay of pigs). That's an extremely complicated question and a lot of it obviously has to do with them being under authoritarian rule. But being an idealist he framed it as Castro did good things for the people, etc. As in they didn't raise up against him because he provided for them, was a hero for overthrowing Batista, etc. There's some truth to that. Right or wrong that's a totally different conversation than "he wasn't' all bad... he started a literacy program." Sanders is at fault for not explaining the original context because now he's kind of left himself defending a a weak position.
I would argue that it's preferable that we view the world in more of a nuanced way. That seems a more diplomatic approach than the demonizing the United States is prone to do to their enemies. Let's be real. Not everyone opposes far left wing governments because they have some deep commitment to human rights.
We have a chance to hit peak Twitter shitshow before Super Tuesday is over. It's insane. If Bernie does good that night I might take off work Wednesday because it's going to be so entertaining.
