And even after that, youre probably getting Ivanka or one of the coked out idiot sons
I think his 2 older sons are DOA. Only the maga-ist magas like Jr and nobody cares about Eric. Ivanka is for sure a threat especially if women hand republicans their asses this year. They'd almost have to run her or Haley again.
I worry about Baron though, MAGAs really love him and they are making a play for Gen Z and Gen Alpha with their right wing streamer outreach. It seems like the GOP powers that be are grooming him carry on the legacy and of course being only 18, he doesn't have much baggage with centrists like his dad and older brothers do.
If he's only 18 now, he's not eligible to run until 2044. You'd need something in the meanwhile.

Yeah that's where a Ivanka/Haley/Mace etc. would come in. Run women until it works, and if it doesn't, then go back to his son. Gerrymandering will keep republicans alfoat in congress and state governments for the time being as well.

I love the Walz pick but chiming in to say holding something someone in their 50s wrote when they were 20 against them is stupid, especially when they’ve disavowed it at Shapiro has.
Sorry but it is incredibly silly to be worrying about Barron right now. It'll be 20 years until he is eligible to run for president and probably 30 or 40 years until he realistically would do so.
I think all of the Trump kids are duds. They are literally the Roys. When Trump dies so does his control over the party, or at least what is left of it.

you sound like a guy with a dead bear in the trunk
Apparently the FBI pulled a search warrant on Andy Ogles
That might be fun
OH FUCK YEAH! Bring it......
I pass a house I think he is building on Mt. Juliet Rd. Has a huge sign in front of it that says Andy Ogles endorsed by Trump. I flip if off every time I pass.
I hate getting into specifics but fuck it: I actually caucused against Tim Walz in the 2018 gubernatorial election in MN because the field was mostly random state reps and he was perceived among progressives (myself included) as being the more moderate option. He’s no full commie or anything but he didn’t turn out to be as centrist as I thought, especially following the MN senate flipping to DFL control in 2022. So I feel pretty good about it.
Same boat. I don't actually remember who I caucused for but it was some state rep that was supposedly more progressive than Walz, but Walz has turned out to be mostly fine.
He isn't pressuring the legislature to pass more progressive bills than they would otherwise (although he absolutely did champion free school lunches, affirming the right for abortions and gender affirming care, expanded child tax credit, etc.), but he is signing everything that makes it to his desk with the single exception of a bill that would have ensured a living wage for Uber and Lyft drivers which he vetoed, but that was done under the real risk that Uber and Lyft would pull out from the state and further hurt the Minneapolis and St Paul downtowns that are already struggling from post-covid office vacancies and heavily reliant on entertainment and tourism.
The Democrats in the Legislature kind of fumbled the ball this year even with the trifecta and through their own rules making blunder allowing the Republicans to essentially filibuster every single floor debate over a matter of months which significantly slowed down the passage of bills. That kept what started as a very progressive slate of bills from ever having a chance to get passed and in many cases from even reaching the floor including a rework of that uber/lyft bill, passage of the ERA, and some very progressive land use regulations that could have helped alleviate the Twin Cities' housing crisis. In the end that might have been a good thing on a National level because it helps keep Walz a little more vague positionally than he would have been otherwise.

sure, but that came out pretty late in the game. It wasn’t the cause of all the backlash against him.
He sure didn’t cut college kids any slack in the last year so I don’t feel too bad if it was somehow the turning point.
But I highly doubt Israel/Gaza was the key reason for this.
Even if he's alive, I feel like his decline is coming, and he may not be capable. Watch speeches in 2016 versus now. They're not on the same level already.
They're running him until he's dead. He is the party. They don't have a Pelosi-type that can edge him out and even suggesting that would get you ostracized.
Four years is a long time. Him getting beaten by Harris certainly wouldn't help him either. Of course your die hard people are going to always say the election is stolen, but in the end, the people with money want to put their money on a winning horse. Plus, you can only push it so far with cognitive decline. Yes, this Trump would 100% run again in 2028, but a diminished Trump isn't going to carry the same fire to the stage and demand the attention he does now. Even now, I feel like comments on stories are leaning more into how Democrats suck then Trump being awesome. There are also stories starting to crop up that "some" Republican strategists/donors aren't totally happy with him which I don't feel like happened in 2020 as much for the reason you mentioned about being ostracized. He's their guy for sure, but I don't feel like he has a stranglehold on the GOP like he did. After all, others are eventually going to want their glory and will betray him to get it if they think they can.

Oh yeah. Also wanted to say a Harris victory makes Trump's legal problems worse as he can't pardon them away. At some point, multiple felony convictions is going to turn some people's opinions on him.

If you were like me it was probably Erin Murphy, who I still occasionally get emails from lol. She’s the current Minnesota senate majority leader so things shook out pretty well for her too.

100% agreee. I should have written “there were plenty enough reasons to not want him as the pick that aren’t that,” which what I was thinking but neglected to add to my comment.

People were running with the "he was in the IDF" thing too. Which he did claim but was researched and found to be an exaggeration on his part. haha. People tend to take things a little far. Obviously, I'm happy he wasn't the pick but it's mostly because I thought it was strategically bad and I didn't want the party saddled with him for a future primary. I just don't expect much policy change on the issue from any of them. However, seeing all the Lincoln Project nevertrump dipshits crying so hard does brighten my day.
Good the see the left podcast industry representing at the rally.

I think he so owns the base of that party that even if most of the leaders/old school money want him out they're not going to beat him in a primary and will end up in the same situation again. That said the energy definitely seems lower in the party this time, between the smaller less enthusiastic crowds and anecdotal reports of fewer yard signs and such. I would really love it if this year the polling overstates his appeal as opposed to 2016 (when it was 2.5% off) and 2020 (when it was 4.5% off). The nightmare is the trajectory continues and he overperforms polls by 6 or 7% this time.
