I found myself almost falling into that trap for a second when reading up on the Castle defense being allowed in the case. "Oh. She thought she was in her place, so it would follow that that standard would follow to where she is because she was in her home per her percep... wait. That's fucking stupid. Who doesn't recognize their own place two seconds after going into it?"

Last Christmas I sorta off-handedly mentioned the situation because I was with my aunt in Dallas and my aunt was on the woman's side saying "oh she was tired and stressed out" and I about lost my damn mind and had to remove myself from the breakfast table I was so pissed. You don't get away with murdering someone in their own home because you're tired.

I find her mistaken belief about her location to be at least somewhat forgivable and understandable, although it should not take long to notice some differences in your own home and someone else's. But why is option 1 in that scenario to shoot the unarmed black man who you think is in your apartment? I realize she is a police officer and that is something many of them do, but you would think her training might lead her to have some other initial reaction to assess or de-escalate the scene.

Because officers are trained to treat civilians as insurgents

Except for this time, but if you're a cop, don't you usually get to get away with murder?
I'm surprised they went with murder over manslaughter. Wouldn't surprise me if the sentence was equivalent to a manslaughter charge.
But hey, accountability finally
It’s murder in Texas if the person “intentionally or knowingly causes the death of an individual.” It’s manslaughter if the person “recklessly causes the death of an individual.” She apparently testified that she shot with the intent to kill him, so I’m guessing that’s what the jury’s decision hinges on, that she intentionally caused his death.
This is fairly long and occasionally insane, but otherwise the most exhaustive summary I've seen of why Elizabeth Warren just frankly isn't very good at all
So... I wonder if this is the first officer (I'm not sure if it counts that she was off-duty; that could be a considered factor in stats) to be found guilty by trial for a shooting where they present themselves as an officer of the law?
I get why people had a hard time falling in line behind Hillary, but c'mon people. Let's have authoritarianism because the other option isn't as liberal as you hoped?

I guess I didn't know any "Bernie or Bust" people in 2016 and figured that was just a conspiracy theory pushed by ex-Clinton aides. Guess not.
Link one post saying "I won't vote for the nominee in the general"
Biden posts don't count because Joe Biden is a Republican
I was going you say that I've never gotten the feeling that you or piggy pablo are going to write in Bernie in the general. You both just are certain Bernie is the best option of the Dems. Pablo is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, I feel like Biden being fucking terrible is something everyone can agree on.
The Bust part of that argument assumes that those same people *didn't either vote for Clinton or down-ballot voted D while voting for Stein. Thus making the Bust part of the argument more about rhetorical anger and the petty bullshit I've read for 3 pages straight. As an actual fucking person of color, I'm both amused and sad for what I see.
Insert a lot of bed and bath water talk. Insert nuance is dead. Insert your expectations are either too low or too high. Insert now I understand why black people, who are still a strong fundamental voting block for D's, grow more and more disenfranchised with the system.
I'm not even saying this is limited to this board, I am seeing it on multiple levels, and maybe everyone should start analyze where their effect is truly felt. If you have real issues with Warren, talk to your other white friends who are more status quo-leaning and convince them that if Sanders is the candidate they should vote for him. Reminding them and yourself that it's still a primary -- and healthy fighting for positioning is good for change; but that it creates a toll on the spirit too. If you are anti-"pushing full steam left" with Sanders for whatever reason you may have, keep pushing for Warren knowing that Biden is a trojan horse of NOTHING changing.
Not a fucking zero sum game. Especially for the poorest and must hurt among us. Get your shit together people.

I like how certain people seem to think that "strongly wanting a particular candidate to win" is somehow rude or wrong. There is nothing unreasonable about focusing most negative attention at candidates you don't support who are the most competitive with the one you do support.
Your making a lot of bad faith arguments that outright belittle the views of a lot of other people on this board. That’s the problem. Saying “oh but I’ll vote for the nominee in the general” doesn’t wash that stunk away.
Engage with the arguments you don't like instead of retreating to "But Trump!" (I'm aware that you're not the one doing this)
I'm going to do everything I can to make sure he's not the nominee, but when Trump is the other option, I will have absolutely no reservations about voting for god awful piece of shit Joe Biden if that's the name on the ballot in 2020.

I plan on voting for the Dem nominee if it is Warren or Bernie, for sure. If they shove Biden down our throats, I will be extra pissed, but I imagine I would eventually come around and vote for him, too.

Rude, cordial, angered, disengaged by language --- all matter and don't matter at the same time. From the person who started talking rude as fuck years ago, you gotta start focusing your arguments towards people better. This is a competition but, we are losing in the current way we are talking to each other about this all.
