great long read from Clare Malone on the Republican party's history with race. It's a good read if you aren't familiar with the topic, still a good read as a refresher/reminder.
Haha. That’s terrible. As for being the dumbest group ever assembled, i would bet on the brains of a caring protester over a Fox News viewer 100% of the time.
lol half the country does not watch that crap. its too many people, but it's an extreme minority of the populace. most people are not engaged in the higher up partisan news narrative. most people are engaged in politics when it hits personally and respond accordingly.
right now my experience is telling me politics is street by street hood by hood. The george floyd era combined with lots of violence due to covid/unemployment related perceived and real lack of gov. power structure to control communities is disengaged from nationwide narratives. How i'm trying to figure out how to deal with political structures having 11 people shot down the street and general chaos in the last few weeks is very different that a few miles over where a legalized encampment is putting pressure on activists who i worry are going to be burnt out very quickly. even up in the boonies where unite cloud and racist bar are beefing it doesn't seem like anyone is paying attention to nationwide stuff.
we're less than 5 months away from the election and since we can't be hedonistic because of covid we're finally dealing with other non electoral issues.....hopefully that doesn't backfire with some more insane 2020 bs
its things like this where we see the breakdown in structures of power being exposed. im skeptical of any information coming out from anyone in that particular situation but the act of people gathering and being able to take action without the state preventing it is important. The amount of wilin ive seen in minneapolis in the last couple weeks has been ridiculous, lots of it bad but so much bad has happened unseen in the past. It's hard to know where to stand and take action when social order begins to break down

You may be right. It's just that me personal experience has exposed me to way too many people following nthis stuff. So probably just my bubble. But I am out in Long Island so that makes some sense
This story is simultaneously ridiculous and also udderly hilarious. Although it touches on a couple of serious topics.
1. Litigious individuals / companies, particularly those with power and money, using the justice system to quell free speech. John Oliver covered this last fall, but I think it’s another piece of the justice system that is broken and needs to be corrected, especially right now. 2. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Both parties for varying reasons want to make drastic changes and if that happens, the Internet could be a very different place. I don’t know what or if anything will change, however, I am extremely skeptical when both parties begin to align on a similar legislation / goals. 3. Immigration in agriculture. Growing up in a family that still farms the original family homesteads, there’s a 0% chance that “his” farm doesn’t employee some sort of mix of of legal and undocumented workers. None. The fact that Nunes’ farm is in racist and anti-immigrant Steve King’s congressional district makes it all the head shaking.
While Fox News is state propaganda for the Republican Party, CNN is state propaganda for the Democratic Party...neither one of these sources help inform the American citizen of what is actually going on in their country.

I like hanging out with the bots on the fox news comment section. While they aren't the most reasonable or flexible of programs, they are a laugh riot to engage with.
Al Jazeera has pretty solid reporting, despite its flaws in ownership.
Not saying CNN is without its issues but the both sides argument is not applicable here. Fox is WAY more partisan
They are both pretty aggressively partisan, which they are meant to be. Each of them serves essentially as state media for either of the two major parties.

Where do you get your news from?
The Guardian if I want a liberal slant, BBC if I want centrism. Random journalists on twitter that are reliable or share reliable sources (like Ben Collins, Dave Weigel)

APNews, Reuters, BBC, PBS and locally. There's a few others but I'm skeptical of most.
Also mind that the right in America is so much further to the right that they basically live in a different reality. Like literally believe in a different set of facts. So reporting something on climate change or reporting that Trump lied is considered partisan.

This is spot on, but I don't think we should let CNN off the hook so easily. They pander and propagate misinformation just as Faux news does, certainly not to the extent we see there, but enough to warrant taking news from CNN in one hand with a microscope in the other.
It is terrifying, however, seeing how the "deep state" narrative has all but removed any sense of reasonable discourse with the right.

Yeah, there's really no question that they are not the same. Bias is one thing which you can find on all the evening shows. But when you compare Carlson/Ingrahm/Hannity to Hayes/Maddow, there is a giant difference. All these shows are opinion and news commentary shows to be sure. But one pushes false narratives dripping with fear, xenophobia and white-disillusionment apparently in coordination with the white house resulting in what I describe as worshiping at the altar of ignorance. The other actually does look into the events at a deeper level. It's okay to hate all corporate media for sure. But one isn't necessarily the other. Even if we were arguing news itself, I'm not going to get my news from Fox.

I'd say CNN has been way more critical of Democratic administrations and presidents than Fox News has been of Republican ones.
I don't like CNN or MSNBC myself but I do not agree that they are the same but for opposing parties. Obama wasn't chatting with CNN anchors on the regular and sharing talking points. I don't believe CNN and MSNBC willingly lie and spread fake news on purpose. I do think they suffer from "we want ratings so we won't put in all the effort to do our jobs correctly" problems.

That an interesting point, but I feel like CNNs coverage of the Obama years was substantially more supportive than it needed to be, potentially in response to how aggressively Faux news went after him day in and day out. I personally do believe that CNN and MSNBC willingly lie and spread fake news on purpose, just not to the extent and embellishment that faux does. Does that make them better? sure, if I'm comparing a pile of shit to a metric ton of shit, I'd be inclined to take the pile and call it a day. I'm not even speaking in pie in the sky terms, but I think CNN could have been substantially more critical of a variety of things the Obama administration did wrong. To their credit, they were balancing on their back foot because Faux is really good at brain scrubbing its faithful.
With all that in mind, I concede that I should not have labeled CNN as state media for the left. That was an overstep. What I should have said from the beginning is that "news" without multiple sources is propaganda, and those that have limited access or knowledge or concern are much more likely to be swayed by that misinformation.

Do you have any examples of the fake news/lies on purpose from recent memory that CNN or MSNBC have reported on? I'd genuinely be interested to see. I don't watch them regularly but occasionally read/share articles from their websites. I tend to try to read multiple sources on a particular story, though.
The 24 hour news cycle is definitely a big problem and has led to this kind of shit. I just really don't view anything near as bad as Fox News is. They don't even pretend to be journalists/news anchors for majority of their programming. They're just hate filled propaganda.

A cursory glance over their front page shows no obvious news/lies on purpose available for me to relay to you.
With that in mind, I'm certain that if you routinely read their articles and absorbed the collective messaging, it would be reflective of the comparison I made earlier: Metric ton of shit (Faux) vs pile of shit (CNN)
The networks that average people don't realize are propaganda are just as dangerous as the Bad Channel, merely in a different way
I think the point people are making is to diversify your media intake; and that there is a false equivalency from the perspective of Fox News agenda and the right vs. what CNN/MSNBC pump out. Let alone a NBC, or local affiliates from other networking groups that are actually a large slice of moderate viewerships eyes.
I had more to say, but I guess it's more relevant to find out which network of journalisms you speak of - because this is vague.
