vote by mail in pa was a mess for the primaries here, at least with people i know. my husband and i got two ballots each, while others never received them at all. due to my work situation during covid, i'm nervous that i won't have the opportunity to vote in person. my current plan is to hopefully receive the mail in ballot on time and drop it off in person at the elections office.
i'm seeing a lot of people say this and i think it's the best strategy for those who can't vote in person.
luckily i live in alabama so nobody here is trying to suppress any votes because why bother? my polling place is always well staffed, and is large enough to easily socially distance. plus if there is a line it forms outside. so really the best case scenario for voting during covid.
Similar case here. Solid red district so voting is pretty easy. During early voting, I'm often the only person in the place aside from staff.
I’m in a safe blue state, but I still kind of regret requesting a mail in ballot with what the orange monster is doing to the USPS. Pretty sure Chicago has drop off boxes though, so I’ll definitely do that.

I had no issues with vote by mail in the primary but am growing worried for November. My wife works in the good government/voting rights space so I think her nightmares are contagious.
I have been considering poll working for awhile, and it's extra needed this election so I will probably do it and also vote in person.
I got an application for the state offices primary in Sept. Told the gf to drive down to Town Hall with that. It sucks how we can't trust the mail at this point.
I do want to level with Deto and everyone that if Texas wasn't solidly Red I probably wouldn't be so cavalier about voting for Hawkins.
I've just gotta see what I can do to help locally with the district race and others.
Gotta be honest, I get it, as I voted Green because NY was solidly Democrat and I didn't have to think about more than trying to pull up 5% for future elections. What irritates me is that I take a break from speaking here, and immediately get torn into for having a contrary opinion with you. I'm not some bad faith actor here.
i see no one liked this post. Gee, I wonder why...
Is there something to like?
I have no illusions that Kamala Harris represents all of my ideals. But the option is a tuna sandwich or a shit sandwich. I'm taking the tuna, and anyone saying that both sandwiches are the same is either stupid, acting in bad faith, or idealistic to a fault. The current president is trying to steal the election, ignoring a virus that's killed 170,000 americans and breaking countless institutions.
Eat the fucking tuna sandwich and shut up until we save the country.

it's ironic that you state that anyone saying they are the same is either, "stupid, acting in bad faith, or idealistic to a fault," because it directly applies to your logic of voting Harris/Biden and believing they will, "save the country".
they're more similar than you would like to believe. make sure to pat yourself on the back when you cast that vote. you will be the same person in 4 years, repeating this same, old, tired bullshit.

Sounds like you fall under "idealistic to a fault." I didn't say they'd save the country. I said we.
I don't have the time to try and sell you on voting for the non-fascist option. Congratulations on your woke-ness. Keep daydreaming for a miracle cure rather than incremental change.

But I'm vegan.
The tuna sandwich is still against my morals, even if it doesn't taste quite as bad as the shit sandwich.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
They've been telling us for months that if you vote by mail they'll probably not count your vote.
Who would still vote by mail at this point? Maybe I'm privileged enough to do this but I'll go to my polling location at 6am on 11/3 if I have to.
I'm going to vote the same way I do for every election. Fill out my mail-in ballot at home and drop it off at a library or polling place on election day. I read California is sending ballots to everyone this year, so that'll be interesting!

Question: are people not voting by mail because they are afraid it won’t arrive? Or more that it won’t be counted once it arrives? If I recall correctly (in CA at least), every mail-in ballot I have sent has come with a tracking ID # so I can verify it’s arrival.

If I lived in a purple or red state I would be nervous it might get "lost" yes. May be paranoid, but with how things are going right now I'm not even sure. Being in California I'm fairly sure it would get where it needs to be, I just like to wait until the last minute to finish completing most of my ballot and I feel rushed voting in person (because there are usually long lines).

Ooh, it would get there just fine in my part of Georgia. I wouldn't be so sure in Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, Albany, etc.

Also, a more broader point: If you think Trump and the GOP are the sole aspects of facism in American society you should really read up on it and take a long look at American history and even just our general culture.
im not voting for hawkins because i think he'd be a terrible president and i still dislike the green party due to them working against paul wellstone in 2002 even though i was 11. worldview and political ideals...extremely on board with hawkins but i just dont view voting as a moral or conscious decision.. To me it's a fucked up game of navigating structural power and voting unfortunately for biden/harris gives a much more immediate pathway to issues i care about and want to see through.

that it wont arrive. america has issues with suppression not messing with the vote once it's cast. im not sure about other states but in minnesota you can drop off your mail in ballot at a voting center
i have no faith in Abbott to do the right thing regarding voting in texas, and i have even less faith that our AG, who is currently on the run from a fraud case for like 5 years, will do anything to stop any kind of malicious voter repression
