Poor people and immigrants are going to be just as fucked under Biden/Harris, possibly more, because no one will care anymore.
biden's platform includes tripling funding to title 1 schools, trump has tried to cut education funding every year he's been in office. biden would end separation of families at the border, reinstate DACA, end the muslim ban. poor people and immigrants will fair better under biden than under trump.
Also want to say I'm offended at your offense because I get SO MUCH SHIT FOR NOT VOTING HILLARY.
I vocally am saying my position and that your vote, is your vote.
Saying what I believe taken as offense, is just you throwing away my opinion because it doesn't gel with your worldview.
It's not wrong to be offended if someone does or says something that offends you. I did not say that to be dismissive. I was merely expressing befuddlement that you're telling me I'm just saying stuff you all already know but also I shouldn't be saying stuff you all already know.
I get lectured, like a lot of lefties, about how poorly I *build coalitions*, but it's super underrated how radicalizing it is that oftentimes when I express an opinion that is damaging to the Democratic Party in some way that people react like I'm not allowed to think that or that I'm somehow disingenuous.

I don't recall anybody here telling you to not think what you want, based on your beliefs, experience, etc. People will at times call each other out, not always agree, and I'm all for that as long as it does not descend into petty name calling, hate, or anything else that is extreme and bully-like.
Another critical piece of the puzzle which *ALONE* is worth fighting for is the balance and future judgments of the Supreme Court. It's already not in the best shape, and if we get another 4 years of Trump, you can kiss the SC bye bye, along with countless other outrageous appointments he will continue to make in the federal judicial system.
Considering the level of uncertainty around voting suppression and fraud that could happen, I look at every single state and location as being in danger. No where is safe in 2020 with this president

All the more reason to vote third party. Trump's gonna steal it anyway so whats the difference?

My dad just angrily praised Tucker Carlson for "finally" talking about the 5 year old boy that was killed by his black neighbor. It's a fucked up story and the guy arrested deserves whatever is coming to him for what he did. But my dad's whole thing about it is that he feels "the news....nobody's talking about it" even though he somehow heard the story. The right wing media are pushing this story hard with the idea "what if the races were reversed?" and somehow using this to attack BLM and black people somehow. My dad was happy that Tucker was finally talking about it. I don't interact with him on these matters anymore but wanted to point out that "Tucker Carlson is now a journalist and doesn't host a news show. He is an entertainer who pushes hatred and fear."

It's so fucked.
I don't know. It seems totally the same because, every time a black person gets killed, the responsible party gets charged and convicted, right?
They have to pull that kind of shit as the propaganda arm to not focus on fucking with other shit. It's supreme desperation like we've never seen in our lifetimes from an American leader and his cronies. They are pulling out all the stops to fuck with voting rights for a reason. They must know that many of that circle will be behind bars if they lose power.
Rachel read the forward to Cohen's book tonight to open her show. I know they jailed him to shut him up, but what I don't get is how he's able to say what he does without violating every type of atty-client conflict of interest and shit. Maybe because he pleaded guilty and went to jail he's free to talk. Most of us are conditioned to not like rats and snitches. But sometimes one comes clean that needed to. Golden showers in Vegas. Cheating and collusion in the election. etc. He knows. He was there and often the conduit.
I do want to level with Deto and everyone that if Texas wasn't solidly Red I probably wouldn't be so cavalier about voting for Hawkins.
I've just gotta see what I can do to help locally with the district race and others.
Honestly, even though I don't believe it will make a difference, I'm probably going to vote Biden. I feel gross, I hate it and I live in a red state also, but I just feel I have to vote in a way that shows Trump is unacceptable.
Again, I hate everything going on. I still think Trump is going to win. I worry about the future, period. And I'm going to vote for someone that disgusts me and I think is going to lose.

I looked it up in a way that wouldn't bring that asshole's take, and I got a local news channel's report. That's about as horrible as it gets. I don't care if the perpetrator or victim was black or white. Short of some war-related PTSD insanity defense, I don't see a reason for a piece of shit like that to have any kind of future. You don't walk up to a pre-Kindergartner sitting on a bicycle and shoot them in the head at point blank range for any reason. None. That's the kind of shit if left to emotion would suggest deserving an immediate and unmerciful fate in return. Justice doesn't work like that, and it can't. But that's a motherfucker who should suffer and wouldn't get any pity from me.

Yeah, it's a complete fucked up news story that makes me sad. I agree that it's about as horrible as it gets. I'm glad he's arrested and I don't know if we'll find out what the real motive may be (drugs, mental illness, being angry at a kid riding his bike on his property?) but it kind of doesn't matter because what he did is just terrible.
I don’t know the details but a judge in Pennsylvania today gave the administration and allied GOP lawyers until today to show proof of fraud else they can’t limit drop boxes ala Ohio.

Well, I've been called disingenuous multiple times in this and the previous politics thread. In the last couple weeks or so here, I've been called an asshole, unable to think for myself, had my critical thinking ability/objectivity in particular questioned (by you), and had it be insinuated that I'm racist and/or don't care about poor people. So, like, maybe you don't remember all of that, but I do. I've pretty much come to expect all that, and, in a sense, it comes with the territory of what and oftentimes how I post here. And that's fine, but if the argument is that I should be building a coalition and I'm failing, all that stuff makes *me* more resentful of *the center* in much the same way people criticize me. But that's not even a consideration, whereas I get lectured about how I need to improve my rhetorical strategy. It's sorta like how KHive literally doxxed people and Bernie Bros posted snake emojis and oddly the latter got more media coverage.
I'm skeptical that Biden will be especially interested in packing the courts with left partisans. He really likes to please Republicans.
Now, you can obviously disagree or say I'm insane or whatever, call me "champ" again. But I do believe that to be the case, and Biden has spent plenty of time in office for me to have an opinion on that.
Anyway, I probably look like a huge baby now, but I for sure have experienced that kind of stuff! Bye yall!
They've been telling us for months that if you vote by mail they'll probably not count your vote.
Who would still vote by mail at this point? Maybe I'm privileged enough to do this but I'll go to my polling location at 6am on 11/3 if I have to.
The president and first lady ordered their mail-in ballots from Palm Beach County for the election. If ever there was irony about someone claiming massive fraud before a single vote is cast, claiming things are right in Florida (and ESPECIALLY Palm Beach County) just shows how full of shit someone can be.

Oh I get that there is massive hypocrisy. I'm just saying, the abuser-in-chief has told you repeatedly that if you vote by mail, your vote will probably go missing.
Unless you have a medical condition, we should all be voting in person this November to make sure the GOP is kicked out of as many offices as possible.

I'd say you leaving the thread would be a fairly big loss. You are always entertaining if not maybe sometimes overly passionate which isn't a bad thing. I started a reply yesterday to your point that Biden and Harris might be even worse than Trump for immigration. I felt like that was preposterous. No way they're going to do everything many of us would want them to do. But if you think they wouldn't improve on anything Trump, Miller and company have authorized, encouraged and executed - from their white America first stands, family separation, kids in cages, dangling DACA status against American kids for political negotiating power, removing protection for political and economic refugees, letting sick babies and toddlers die in custody - I don't know what to tell you. If you feel like Senator Harris isn't aware that she's the child of immigrants and that she in some way doesn't understand that her career is a testament to success that immigrants can bring to America and have for hundreds of years, that's your call. None of that means that under Biden and Harris, ICE would stop rounding people up, deporting people who arrived at the border with little more than hope and the clothes on their backs - possibly having been raped, robbed or exploited along the way. There can't ever be perfect when immigration is a partisan political issue used by money interests to divide Americans.
This thread is ugly sometimes. People can be accusatory and extremely judgmental and philosophically rigid. But outside of drive-by hits and occasional lower-tier trolling that pops up, I glean a lot of information from here and use it to question what I believe in and refine where I'm at on something since maybe I never considered some x or y factor before. So I'd hope you'd stay even if you were taking a break since your posts matter to me regardless of which ones I agree or disagree with

I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I went in and voted for Bernie a few weeks ago, but I was scared for my health. I skipped the 2 or 3 other insignificant parts of the ballot (state central committee and a local judgeship or two) so I could push the button, snap a photo and get the hell out of there. But the LA Presidential Ballot always has tons of things to vote for. Many of those might matter to me. It will take time to go through it. I'm thinking about early-voting in person.
When's the last time a president has been better on immigration than his predecessor?
It depends on what you mean by "better." It hasn't always been a partisan political issue, not even in our lifetimes. Sometimes it's been a local political issue. Sometimes it's been a more social issue. By today's racist immigration standards, maybe the Kennedy-Reagan deal to legitimize and document illegal aliens at that time (with specific provisions for the Irish) looks racist more than ethnic. But it came from compromise. I don't think that in the 1970's when we settled many of the South Vietnamese it was all that political. So was Carter worse than Ford? Reagan worse than Carter? Bush worse than Reagan? Clinton worse than Bush? Bush worse than Clinton? Depends on what "better" means.
From a social standpoint, you can go back to the immigration waves from colonial times well into the 20th Century and see how certain segments of people behaved toward others. High French in New Orleans didn't want Irish worshiping at the STL Cathedral so they built their own church a couple miles up the road (St. Patrick's). Irish were shunned across the country at first. They slowly took over police forces and city governments often forgetting where they came from as they turned their knives on arriving Italians in many big cities. Many people didn't like the Italians who were often murdered on the streets. etc.
When has it been better since immigration has become a hyper-partisan and racist issue over the last couple of administrations? Because that's where we are. I don't have a problem with fair enforcement of fair laws. And because the GOP wants and needs to stoke racism/ethnic prejudice to their mostly ignorant base, you aren't going to get fair laws or even-handed enforcement.
You didn't come out and say it, but if you also feel like the next president will take us to an even lower level of humanity than this one has, I guess you'll have to wait and see what that next administration is.
vote by mail in pa was a mess for the primaries here, at least with people i know. my husband and i got two ballots each, while others never received them at all. due to my work situation during covid, i'm nervous that i won't have the opportunity to vote in person. my current plan is to hopefully receive the mail in ballot on time and drop it off in person at the elections office.

i'm seeing a lot of people say this and i think it's the best strategy for those who can't vote in person.
luckily i live in alabama so nobody here is trying to suppress any votes because why bother? my polling place is always well staffed, and is large enough to easily socially distance. plus if there is a line it forms outside. so really the best case scenario for voting during covid.
