Huh. I thought for sure there was some peer-reviewed research to back it up.
I'm speaking to the Nation of Islam of it all more than the rule's veracity.
But there has been at least one study lol
A 2000 study found that the rule was fairly accurate at predicting the minimum age of a woman that a man would marry or date. However, the rule was not found to be predictive of the minimum age of a man that a woman would marry or date, nor (by reversing the formula) of the maximum age that either sex would marry or date.
I couldn't find any real study, but I saw half of Texans follow that rule. Whether on purpose or not, who knows. New Republic says science does not support it and then a bunch of women bullshit magazines discussing whether to or not.
This justifies me not knowing anything about that. Plus, as long as they're all 18+ who fucking cares. Unless it's DiCrappio and/or a history of slimebag sexist douchery. 🤷♀️

I'm so sorry you investigated this so thoroughly. I was not being remotely serious in applying this "rule" or the existence of any sort of research supporting it. I'm actually surprised there was so much to learn about it.
Also, it seems weird to be using they in a sentence like that, describing only one person. We need a better gender neutral singular pronoun.
There are tons, but no one wants to use those ones either. Adapt, bb. "They" works fine as a singular pronoun and has done so for hundreds of years.
yea ngl its kind of uncomfortable seeing cis people express disdain for they/them pronouns, even if not malicious. they has been used as a singular pronoun for people whoms gender is unknown for centuries. its the most comfortable for me with my gender identity. also as Jaz said, neopronouns do exist but of course theyre met with even more ridicule.

Yeah, I def don't mean it in a malicious way.
I'm just saying, I would usually associate "they are" as being 2 or more. Although now I'm rattling around examples in my brain where it's singular.
no i get that, i think its just the way it was worded. its also a much newer identifier so its gonna be harder for people who havent been exposed to it as much and associate it with a plural meaning.

Yeah. It's a learning process. I didn't know any openly enby people until maybe two years ago.
I'm clearly not afraid to make stupid comments, or embarrass myself.
in all seriousness that's what i like about this thread and similar discussions we have around here. what would be at best a heated discussion in a massive space like twitter has the heat taken way down in a small community like inforoo where we know each other and therefore know we aren't coming from a malicious place. i love that i can look dumb in front of my friends and it's OK.
