Ive lost hope in the hiphop direction at Roo or else id continue posting more about Gibbs, RTJ, Danny Brown, Pusha T, De La, etc.
Everyone you just mentioned has played in the past and I wish they’d all come back. Danny Browns new album is awesome btw. And RTJ have a new one dropping early next year. 🤞🏻
yeah Im aware theyve all played, but none since 15. From 13-15, the hip hop acts I was excited for included:
Kendrick x2 Nas Wu Tang Clan Killer Mike Death Grips Hiphop superjam ft Wu, solange, schoolboy q, redman Big Krit Earl Sweatshirt Asap rocky Action Bronson Pusha T Danny Brown Kanye West Lauryn Hill Ice Cube Chance the Rapper Run the Jewels Freddie Gibbs and Madlib Shabazz Palaces Atmosphere
From 16-19, the acts I was excited for included:
Vince Staples Lizzo Chance the Rapper Noname Kevin Abstract Brockhampron Denzel Curry Anderson Paak Saba Cardi B Little Simz Childish Gambino
Larger window of years, way less total good hip hop bookings imo. My guess is we get 3-4 good but not great names. Hope I’m wrong.

Not a big Tyler fan?
Ehh. Not really in 2016. I like early OF stuff + Flower Boy and Igor, but he was on a run of bad albums at that point.

You think Wolf is a bad album?
Also - just to add Gucci Mane to the 2019. Though your argument holds.
yeah I just think Tyler was struggling to find his lane for a while after the initial break onto the scene and I became uninterested for a long long time. Didnt even give him a chance again until this year.
Forgot about Gucci. Even if you look at the quality of names between the two lists Id say there is a big dropoff there. And we never get throwback artists like Wu / Nas / Cube / Hill anymore. Maybe Im getting old and Gucci is considered throwback now.

Gucci was def. a throwback; my hope is that they line up an act with the same energy around that time on Saturday again. I don't know what lane they are going to ride down though for this years acts. We await the lineup

Maybe Wayne or something.
I nominate Missy Elliott for a throwback hip hop act. Wishful thinking, I know.
Also SiR SZA Jay Rock. I read something about Kendrick in the headliner thread and I think a TDE takeover would be cool.
A late night Ab-Soul tent set would be awesome.
would be cool to see something like ScHoolboy Q on Which into Kendrick on What headlining and doing some Black Hippy stuff. And then SZA late night Which with Isaiah and Ab Soul in a tent back to back after.
Is it possible for Stormzy to play the 13th in Dallas and make it to Bonnaroo to play the 14th? Probably too big to play on Thursday, and he's in Houston on the 12th
Gucci owes his 2nd wave career to his excellent acting abilities in Spring Breakers.
real talk regarding Gucci, i think his second wave came because when he got clean and jacked and healthy in prison. when he came out he had a lot of good press, and i think a lot of big time producers were excited he was out and doing well and made a bunch of dope beats for him.
