I’m actually kinda surprised this festival is about to go into its 3rd year
"We'll be back for sure," says Tim Sweetwood of C3 Presents, the team behind Lollapalooza and the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
A music festival aimed squarely at baseball fans who flock to Arizona for spring training, Innings drew 25,000 people to Tempe Beach Park on March 2 and 3 for a lineup topped by Incubus and Eddie Vedder.
"I think it’s going as well as we could hope," he says. "I mean, I can’t speak to the financials, but it’s going in the right direction. We’ve got a great relationship with the city. And the city’s really happy to have us. We want to come back. We enjoy the spot. We appreciate the weather compared to anywhere else in the country."
Sweetwood laughs, then adds, “Maybe we’ll just keep doing the festival for the weather alone and not even worry if anybody shows up, right?”
you'd be surprised how many people come out to go to spring training shiz in Phoenix. My favorite brewery/restaurant, in a part of town not even near the baseball stadiums, is so slammed during spring training I avoid it altogether. A lot of the people who go to Innings are from out of town, and came to Phoenix for some baseball. And those people typically have money - the VIP and Platinum tickets sold out first last year.
Last year it was the same weekend as McDowell Mountain, which had Odesza, Jungle, Big Wild, Umphrey's, Empire of the Sun, Kurt Vile, etc. which also drew a big crowd. They are different weekends this year, so I could see it doing even better.

Good for Sweetwood. Surprised Sea Hear Now kept going too tbh. Hopefully Exit 111 works.

I'm hoping Exit 111 keeps going just to hold out hope that System of a Down will finally come back to the south. If setlist.fm is correct, they haven't been to the south since 2006. I think that fest could be something cool, but was not a fan of the lineup this year.
Has anyone done this festival before? It looks like they do unopposed headliners, correct? Like someone said above, I'm considering flying in for a weekend of ballgames, but if I'm going through that effort, I'd be hoping to see Isbell and DMB on Saturday as well.

yeah, you could see both. it's kinda like lock'n - there are two stages and acts start back to back on each. so you'd probably miss the first/last couple minutes of an artist moving from one stage to the other, but they don't actually overlap.
