Yeah, doing Firefly and Coachella makes the most sense. When OctoberChella got called off, they likely just re-worked the dates so they could make it worthwhile because he won't be able to do Coachella 2022.

They're wide open for both weekends. They could be a specific weekend exclusive, but you kind of feel like they'd be a 2 weeks headliner if they play. They are in Tampa on the 7th which is kind of hard to get to Austin to play the next day though obviously they could do it on a plane (but not sure about gear). That would be tight considering they'd probably have less than drive time than actual time between breakdown and setup. So Friday would most likely be out. Then they play in Charlotte on Monday the 11th. Charlotte is farther than Tampa from Austin for gear transport, but again, they could probably fly all that stuff over and catch the trucks up later (and have other trucks waiting at the airport). Otherwise, Saturday would be my guess if they were playing either or both weeks at ACL (Sunday Week 1 closer would work too).
Then again, why would ACL book them if they're also playing Dallas and Houston the following week? It doesn't make that much sense to have them as a headliner but then they're already playing nearby in Texas.

i think it works well w them playing the 9th and having two days between shows on each end.
Jay Z played houston/dallas right around ACL, gambino (was supposed to), just depends on the act. Austin has a pretty big scene for that compared to Hou/Dal so they could still draw well from locals and the roaming heads regardless.
No doubt, so it certainly doesn’t eliminate them completely. But with Tampa Thursday (before week 1) and Charlotte Monday after weekend 2, Saturday feels like the only day they could legitimately be there both weekends with the amount of gear they need to transport from show to show.

I wonder if doing so many 2-3 night runs elsewhere keeps the cost down enough that moving back and forth to Austin isn't too prohibitive
Assuming the leaked Bottle Rock lineup is accurate, it certainly reinforces the idea that Stevie will be at ACL.
And, considering St. Vincent only has one festival date announced, I'd imagine she's very likely. Would be odd to do Life is Beautiful and nothing else.

Tampa and West Palm Beach are the only shows between ACL weekends and are Wed/Thurs. I had it fd up earlier. So they can roll down there and back for Saturday. Normally I’d guess they wouldn’t play ACL then jazz fest, but those are usually 5 months apart. No 100% guarantee they’ll play jazz fest, but they were on the 2020 lineup before it got cancelled.
Fuck. I just destroyed the whole post. Stripped down is this was on the often reliable (depending on poster) jazz fest forum followed by another post which said Oteil let it slip they were playing Jazz Fest on Saturday, 10/9.
“There was a screenshot of a tour schedule floating around last weekend, before the official announcement, that had Oct. 9 as Jazzfest.”
So here’s what I see. Jazz Fest only requires musical equipment since it’s in the daytime. There are no back screens or elaborate stage shows. It’s the performer and the fans and a couple supplied lights on stage but again, it’s daytime. So they don’t need to stage anything here. That means there really isn’t that big of a deal for them to do random night shows and appearances after Dead & Co before flying out charter the next morning to austin. This makes it nearly 100% that if they are playing ACL, it will be Sunday closer. And if they play, it should be both weekends. They’ll still need to get to Charlotte on Monday for their show at PNC Pavilion. But they can play on whatever stage ACL/C3 and their producers hammer out without necessarily having to have their traveling stage with them.
Thanks joy. Should be the beginning or middle of the fall lineup dominoes. Next week and the week after should be at least 10-15 major and mid-major festivals.
Would be an amazing booking for them. Get those freaks to buy two Sunday passes, which is often a struggle (although probably won't be so hard this year).

who you calling a freak (as I search for flights to see these guys 4 times this year)
