Meatball makes a fair point as far as getting to see things not previously seen. I don't hate the lineup, but it's not really that much for me. For the side panel/headiners:
Strait - Big name for Texas and respect, but I don't get stimulated by C&W unless it's serious picking/bluegrass stuff Eilish - Have seen, is fine but wasn't for me. Would probably see again. Nicks - Have not seen solo. She'll be around 73 (?) by ACL, and who knows how many more chances you get to see her. Miley - Kind of a wildcard that I haven't seen - could be fun, could be just kind of a show-person show Rufus Du Sol - Was decent when I saw them. I didn't love it, but I stayed for the whole set and would see them again DABABY - Was one of the most annoying rap shows I've ever been to. That was a few years ago, so maybe he earned the push? Erikah - Another wildcard. Super eclectic and talented. Last thing I saw her do was the Rebilliet show where she came out to perform with him
Too (unfortunately) use the term twice in a post, it's an eclectic top. There's plenty of fun shit in the mid-card. My only two comments about placement would be that Doja Cat (who is perfectly fine live) has apparently skyrocketed in 2 years from the bottom line of a small fest to #9 at ACL. Same for Jack Harlow. I saw him in 2018 for an opener of the day set. It wasn't great. I don't follow recommendations on streaming platforms, so I'm assuming both have developed extremely large followings.
yeah both Doja and Harlow have blown up in the past year, I would say their billing is pretty fitting in comparison with everything around them
Getting the biggest headliner for the younger generation in Billie while also getting the biggest headliner for the older Texas generation in Strait is really something that stands out from other festivals. Even if Billie played in 2019, she's only gotten bigger since. They may have zapped their budget but it'll pay off.
I honestly thought they would've gotten Lizzo back after that show of her in 2019, but Billie is also an amazing get I agree.
To come back to a point Jeremy Fragrance made. How corny a band like Foo Fighters might be, they might have given this top line a little bit more strength. In 2019 they got The Cure at #4, in 2019 they got both Macca and Metallica. I feel like that's missing here a bit now.

Going to be in Austin for a wedding the week of Weekend One so I snagged pre-sale passes. A little underwhelmed with the lineup, but I've never been to this fest and have always wanted to, so I'm stoked.
Just compared the number of acts on Weekend One in 2019 to 2021. This year has 76 acts, 2019 had 105 acts. Yes I understand COVID has impacted the amount of artists and I don't anticipate them adding 20-30 acts each weekend, but we should get a good handful of additions, yeah?
2021 08-07: Japanese Breakfast @ Union Transfer 09-08: My Morning Jacket / Brittany Howard @ The Mann 09-18: Soccer Mommy @ Union Transfer 10-01 thru 10-03: Austin City Limits Music Festival 10-19: Waxahatchee @ Union Transfer 10-27: Arlo Parks @ The Foundry 11-09: Squid @ Johnny Brenda's 11-17: Monophonics @ World Cafe Live 12-01: Caribou @ Union Transfer

A couple things that may or may not matter to you personally are that there is precious little shade, and sometimes it’s still hot as shit in Austin in October (often in the 90-100 range, much hotter in the sun). So if you burn easily or haven’t been outdoors in the few weeks before, make sure to use plenty of sunscreen and stay hydrated. There are a few right-side edge spots by the stage with the skyline behind it, but that was always my biggest beef with ACL. It seems easy enough to put up some shade cloths around the park. Then if you are a drinker, offerings mostly consist of beer and wine and maybe one or two pre-mixed drinks from local distilleries. Maybe cocktails exist, but I’ve been several years and never found them there. You can get craft beer if you like that. Finally there are some very good food offerings usually there. Micktlethwait BBQ has bomb ass bbq tri-tip sandwiches last few years, and I couldn’t get enough. There’s lots of other decent options too.

This is extremely helpful thanks for all the tips!
