hard to not feel bad for the festival organizers at this point. most of this is out of their control and they've just been crushed by so many more cancellations than most other festivals this summer/fall (so far)
Generally, they've been good at replacing names with act of smilar stature. Not like they are losing a headliner and simply move all mainstage acts 90 mins later.

I’d feel bad for them if they didn’t not only put a surprise Morrissey show on my ticket but also kowtow to him and make the pre-party all vegetarian
Fuck Morrissey, fuck riot fest for continuing to give him a platform when so many have already cut ties with him
They deserve all the shit they get this year, whatever the reason

I'm so sorry you had to experience that. I can only imagine the hardship of having to wait a few hours to eat a cheeseburger.

my problem is with them bending over backwards for him (probably screwing over vendors in the process) when he’s a fucking racist/white nationalist covid denier piece of shit
Had a dream last night that Jenny Lewis was the replacement for the Pixies and that Rina Sawayama was one of the support acts on Thursday. In case anyone wants to be disappointed when neither of those happen

Let me stop you... I think that I've heard this one before.

This is very fair. If i had pulled the trigger on tickets, i'd feel the same.
Obviously I don’t like him that much and absolutely abhor his politics but he played 2016 with basically no controversy aside from his usual shticks (being late, nobody sold meat during his performance); I’d imagine it’s probably going to be similar this time. chicagoreader.com/blogs/morrissey-brought-charisma-but-not-much-else-to-riot-fest/

but also, that was a pre-announced headliner set where I could go see Nas instead and not the main/only event of a supposed reward pre-party for people that held on to their tickets for two years, that is now open to anyone
At the very best/most charitable, booking Morrissey is always a controversial decision, and Riot Fest really missed the mark in a huge way handing over the reins of Thursday to him rather than someone who’s more of a “Riot Fest Favorite”

On another note the most recent Morrissey sets are fucking garbage anyway, who the hell wants to go see him perform like 75% new shit and only one or two smiths songs
People should just not go that Thursday night. It'll serve the organization right if it's barely attended.
this is true, but it’s also super annoying that the “reward” for keeping my tickets turns out to be me sitting at home while my ticket money goes to Morrissey anyway, and now the show’s open to everyone who buys a ticket

Isn’t Nas accused of physical and mental abuse of his ex-wife? Sounds like you just don’t like or want to see Morrissey, which is fine, but you’re overreacting a bit.

the Nas accusation came out years after his Riot Fest performance while Morrissey had been a vocal racist for many years at that point

No one stays canceled for long. People forget. Or just forive, idk. Look at Kanye. It doesn't matter what he does, his fans still love him. I think the only person I've totally cut off is Ryan Adams.

Friend of mine that's really pro-cancelling shitty people, actually came in defense of Nas. In his words, since Nas and Kelis had a super bitter divorce and continue to be slinging mud, he sees it as a "he says, she says" situation. Not sure whether I agree, but worth considering.

the Nas situation is definitely more complicated and I do feel conflicted about listening to him bc of that, but it’s neither here nor there since he’s not playing Riot Fest 2021 and in 2016 when he last played there were no such public allegations
I’m wondering if people here just aren’t all that familiar with Morrissey’s support of fascism, white nationalism (espousing white replacement theory repeatedly over the years), his support for Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey of all people (“the victims just play along and afterwards feel embarrassed”), his recent covid denial bullshit (“con-vid”, he calls it), etc
He’s just an all around garbage person and Riot Fest hosting him at all in the year 2021 is completely tone-deaf, and giving him control of the Thursday pre-party is a slap in the face
Do I care about this too much? Maybe; but in 2021 there should be absolutely no tolerance for racism, especially in the punk rock scene which has famously been anti-hate and anti-racist

I think everyone agrees Morrissey is a shit person, but as far as covid denial and hate for the precautions and everything that goes with that, you’re going to have a tough time with weeding out all the assholes in the music industry. It’s the sad state we live in for that. I wouldn’t go to a solo Morrissey show but if he was playing a festival I was at I’d see him and have. I get it though. The line I draw in the sand is abusive actions and others are going to be different.
As far as Nas goes though I thought the accusations were around before that? I know people I’m friends with were pissed about his 2015 booking at Coachella but maybe they just weren’t public accusations and just internet talk.
Flaming Lips are taking the record for most shows this year.
Other than GWAR, Andrew WK, and NoFx, they’ve gotta be pushing the record for Riot Fest appearances as well. Jk, I’m sure there are a ton of undercard acts that play more regularly but wouldn’t this be their 4th or 5th appearance?

This will be their 4th appearance and second time being added as a replacement (2016 as well, I can't remember who dropped out then).

4 is a lot but not crazy by Riot Fest standards.
Yea off the top of my head Weezer and Wu-Tang are probably there or close. Just odd since I remember seeing them in 2014 with the technical difficulties, they were on after Ween in 2016 and I thought they headlined in 2019 one night as well. Short time span to have four hits on the same fest if they get added.
I think they were just a standard late add in 2016 though

Radkey announced they're playing at 2:15 Friday on stage 3(?). Looks like they jumped the gun with that announcement but I would assume that means the schedule is coming soon.
