They cut them off right at 10 and they had Dave Grohl up for paradise city. I left GnR after welcome to the jungle and caught Miley Cyrus. She was lots of fun, and the queen of rock covers is definitely accurate.
It was way more crowded today. Everything was a line, lots of bottle necks, and WAY TOO MANY BLANKETS! Seriously, you can't put your blanket down at noon to hold your spot all night anywhere else, but somehow that's ok at bottlerock? Yuck.

Stagecoach? They run to get spots when gates open. Im surprised Bottlerock doesnt split it up so that if youre going to have a blanket on the ground it cant be too close to the stage. Pasadena Daydream had designated blanket areas last year.

Yeah, that's what I meant. It's not so much the blankets, it's that they are all up in front and that people just leave them there and go about their day elsewhere.

Favorite sets of the weekend:
1. Brandi Carlile (amazing) 2. Mondo Cozmo 3. GnR 4. MUNA 5. Black Pumas
HM: Donna Missal, Oliver Riot, Future Islands
All in all it was a great weekend despite Stevie Nicks canceling and all that. Just good to be back around live music. And to hear all the artists express their gratitude about being back out there and how much they really missed performing... I swear almost every act we saw mentioned it. Really cool to be at their first shows back in almost 2 years.
Second time at this fest, and I love lots of things about it. Friday and Sunday in particular felt really open and we were able to maneuver right up front for any set we wanted. But the blanket warriors can suck, particularly when they have a blanket by the rail and don't even stand up for an afternoon set. And it is really expensive. Like more expensive than you're imagining when I say it's really expensive. Save 30-50 a day on parking and park in the residential neighborhood by Chipotle. That way you'll have money for 2 or 3 beers. Couldn't believe I fell for Lawrence. Mondo Cozmo was great, as usual. Also really enjoyed Black Joe Lewis, MUNA, Spafford and Reignwolf. Didn't know about the Highwomen until we got over there. The sort of thing I would only catch at a festival, but I enjoyed it. Apparently I also enjoy blank the blank acts (but missed every blank thee blank act). Ranking the weekend's blank the blanks: 1) Run the Jewels 2) Portugal. the Man 3) Cage the Elephant 4) Young the Giant

I had a great time at my first Bottlerock and I could definitely see myself returning if the lineup is right. Friday was a nearly perfect day with light crowds, perfect weather, and finally hearing live music again for the first time since March of 2020. I felt like every stage had some sound issues at some point during the weekend but that's to be expected with everyone being a little rusty. as I mentioned earlier, the covid checks seemed to be sincere and each time the person looked at my ID and my card for at least 15-20 seconds before clearing me. that made the weekend feel pretty comfortable and safe in the covid era.
I started my friday with Lawrence which was a nice surprise for a few songs but my first real set was In The Valley Below who were plagued by an annoying buzz the entire set. after that I was at the Plaza stage for a bit to catch DeVotchka and Hamilton Leithauser before heading to the main to catch Brandi Carlile and most of The Highwoman. set of the day was Brandi Carlile which was also the biggest surprise set of the weekend for me. I would have loved to see Stevie but I understand her reasons for canceling. I wish I caught the end of the Highwoman set to hear their cover of The Chain, but I wanted to catch a little James Muphy.
I got a started a little later on saturday and was shocked by the huge difference in attendance. it seemed there was easily twice as many people there and the lines for everything were terrible. we couldn't even fill our water because the lines never moved and we didn't want to wait an hour so we decided to buy water -- makes me appreciate coachella's $2 water bottles even more! we started off with Ripe which tied with Miley Cyrus as my set of the day. we also saw Portugal. The Man and Young The Giant on the main. the wine/talkers on the main were pretty bad all day since it seemed like they were only interested in GnR, I had to move away from the wine/talkers a couple times during P.TM because they were talking so loud. I'm not a big fan of Young the Giany, but their set was fine and it was fun enough. GnR was much better than the coachella set a few years ago simply because Axl was back to being Axl. I missed the guests (Pink and Grohl) because I left their set after an hour to catch Miley. I loved the Miley Cyrus set. it was fun and the crowd seemed to know the words to every song which in this case made the set really fun. during Midnight Sky (the song that was made as a duet for Stevie's Edge of Seventeen) the crowd would sing back the Stevie parts which made for a fun moment.
Sunday was the main stage day. I started off catching the Dave Grohl surprise set from afar while I filled my water, got ID checked and grabbed a beer, but then I sat in ADA all day because my back was acting up. We had a good enough spot to relax and listen to Jimmy Eat World, Black Pumas, Cage the Elephant and an hour of the Foo Fighters all in a row before I left to white girl dance at the Village People.
top 5 in no order:
Brandi Carlile, Ripe, Jimmy Eat World, Miley Cyrus, Foo Fighters
