When people shit on 2017 they're really letting the boring garbage that was 2018 off the hook.
i think when remembering 2018 people put a lot of stock in the Bon Iver 2 unique sets, plus the nile rodgers & chic booking which was cool.
but the headliners for 2018 were atrocious. at least in 2017 you had U2, and also at that time Chance The Rapper was more beloved and there was a lot of hype for his set.
2017 undercard was so much worse than 2018
2018 had Anderson Paak, Sturgill Simpson, Sylvan Esso, Bon Iver, Pond, Thundercat, Denzel Curry, Broken Social Scene, Manchester Orchestra, Everything Everything, Tyler Childers, Alex Lahey, Chromeo, Chic
2018 had good shows going nearly at all times—2017 was a wasteland
When people call chance the rapper mayor of bonnaroo or some shit they neglect that Les claypool has played the fest with 6 different bands and led a superjam.
And made a mockumentary called electric apricot: quest for festyroo
Someone needs to add up how many appearances he's had at roo. Jim James would also be in the running and at one point Warren Haynes was.
When's the next King T and Jortles pod? (I didn't just make this up in my head, did i?)
This may have inspired us to reunite! trantsgiving
never listened to the what podcast, and i don't expect everybody to know everything about music, but those are some bad takes. i think a segment on the barn addressing those bad takes would be good.

I pretty much only have one huge hope for the schedule for my personal best case scenario, and it's that Lana plays What before Tame with VW closing Which. If that's how it happens, I can be in the Lana pit and still catch some Vampire Weekend before Tame. If Lana closes Which I'll have to miss Vampire Weekend... which I will do, but it will make me sad. I've never seen them and have wanted to for years, but I'm also not missing the opportunity for the pit of my favorite artist at my favorite venue.

All 3 on What is probably not happening?
I guess that would be actually best case, I just assumed it wouldn't happen.

if youre going to count paak, stugill, and bon iver as undercard....xx, lorde, flume, travis (not my thing but a coachella headliner in 2020 was #9, set was so lit it inspired a whole song), glass animals, future islands, ump, ptm, crystal castles before all the guilt, Tegan and sara, Car seat, kiwanuka, joseph, flatbush, amine, margo price, bbng, mandolin orange, morby, rezz at like 50, kidjo doing remain in light (one of the empiest shows ive seen at a festival and was a great set), barclay/claude, a line 4 rows from the bottom of turkuaz lucy dacus klangstof kevin abstract khruangbin, lemon twigs, lukas nelson 2nd line up, idk it was fine.

2019 lineup order was Phish - The Lumineers - Cardi B
What: The Lumineers > Phish Which: Cardi B
2020 lineup order is Tame - LDR - VW
What: LDR > Tame Which: VW
obviously it doesn't have to follow this same pattern but if i had to bet it would go like this. i hope it shakes out this way, i think i'd enjoy VW more on the smaller stage, and i've never seen LDR but for some reason I think she'd do well in the sunset slot on What.

when you lay out the evidence and make me think 2017 was good but i know for a fact that it wasn't
Definitely pit. Radiohead, Bon Iver, and LCD were three of the best shows I've ever seen at a fest, and the pit definitely made the difference. The older I get the less patience and tolerance I have with talkers.
SO GLAD WE ARE IN THE PIT RIGHT. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU SEEN TOOL. DID YOU KNOW DANNY CAREY IS INTO BLACK MAGIC. THAT SHIT IS REAL MAN. FIBONACCI AND ANTON LEVY WERE FRIENDS. THERE WAS THIS ROCKET ENGINEER NAMED JACK PARSONS WHO WAS ALL INTO SATAN AND MATHEMATICS. PARABOLA IS ABOUT HIM IT'S PRETTY COOL. IT ALL MAKES SENSE YOU JUST HAVE TO CONNECT THE DOTS YOU KNOW. SO WHERE ARE YOU GUYS FROM. WHERE ARE YOU CAMPED AT. DO YOU WANT TO COME BY MY CAMPSITE LATER. WE COULD PRACTICE BLACK MATHEMATICS.
When Tool debuted a couple new songs at whatever festival in April I watched a video on YouTube and wow did those people not stop fucking talking through the music and only about eight minutes in did one say "oh, this is like a new song or something". Unbelievable.

To be fair I could’ve listen the interesting electronic from 2018 too but that stuff doesn’t move the needle for me. Virtual self, clozee, Justin Jay, rufus du sol, shiba san
Travis Scott was the worst show I’ve ever seen at Roo, as a fan of his. (Same with Future, who was bad in ‘18 but a good name on the lineup)
I guess it’s all subjective, but after ‘17 I was ready to never return to the farm again and ‘18 brought me back
You know what did a lot of good for me was checking out these acts on YouTube. Spotify top plays left me with pretty much nothing. But I went back through and there’s some interesting stuff visually
