New Pinegrove album "Marigold" out today. Haven't listened yet but encouraged by the singles that have been put out. Moment is one of my favorites of theirs.
Jerry Harrison comments on Talking Head's Remain in Light. I'm about to buy tickets for the premier show which will partially buy me out of a potential conflict even though I'll probably see it again at Bonnaroo if it's as good as I think it's going to be. As we discussed yesterday, the show will apparently be 90 minutes, feature Remain in Light and several other Talking Heads songs, some Turkuaz and a Belew song or two (hopefully some 80's King Crimson).

Sad Bombay Bicycle Club isn't coming to Roo or Shaky Knees. The closest they'll be to the southeast is St. Louis. Big sad bc I've really enjoyed their new stuff.

Are you playing the album straight through in sequence?
I don’t see a reason to do that. I don’t think that the order on the album is the order that I would want to play it live. A song like “Seen and Not Seen” has a great groove, but I need to hear it after we play it to see if it’s going to be really effective live. Since we’re playing festivals, we have maybe 45 minutes to play.
Who’s seen Too Many Zooz? I’m intrigued, but I’d have to imagine it gets old after like 10 minutes. Am I wrong?
Seen them twice, had tickets to see them this past Monday but I was sick.
They're always fun, the saxophonist is a showman, he loves dancing, shuffling, shaking his butt, etc. throughout the set, he'll probably at least get a smile out of you with his antics.
From what my fiancee said (she went to the show) they are planning this tour like they would be playing in the subway, so its more of a longer jam session where I imagine it'll vary from night to night. They also cover a bunch of songs, or parts of songs, that keep it fresh and fun. It should be a pretty high energy dance party at Roo, everything is done live, including the synths
The sax man also plays in the (now disbanded) Shpongle live band.
Kinda sad Bonnaroo missed the Almost Shpongle project with Russo & Posford. That's gonna be an interesting one.

Yeah some of what I read in that interview has me less hyped now. Like he said somethin’ in there ‘bout not feelin’ the need to even play every song from the album. But then why book a tour like this?

Damn. Guess I was wrong about that one.
They aren't playing many fests that would do this, right? Maybe Roo would give them 60-75 minutes. But I'm sure Peach will say play as long as you want.

He also said the bigger the festival, the earlier they'll play. They're playing at 4 pm at roo.
Playing Bonnaroo this summer will be a blast though. You’ll be playing to tons of young people that never had any chance to see the band. "I’m really excited about it. I’m excited about the other people on the bill like Tool."

I think he was over exaggerating the time they'll get. I got the 90 minutes from something else I read somewhere (might even have been here). But I know they aren't going to be playing 45 minutes at the Joy Theater, the place I just bought my 2 fucking tickets to see them in May. I'm hoping for at least 90 minutes there if not more. I also agree with him not necessarily playing the album front to back or some of the side 2 stuff that they never really played live anyway. It'd be great to get that, but if they hit 6 or 7 songs from the album, throw in some Turkuaz, solo Jerry or cover tunes and whatever Adrian wants to do as well, it's still going to be killer as fuck.

Completely fine with this. Hoping to avoid conflicts.

Except they'll be at the Other listening to BuTtM0nk3y69 drop the bass.

hey don't talk shit about BuTtM0nk3y69, he's a classically trained musician and sometimes he plays a trumpet during the drop.

Yeah. Getting that in early Friday would mean one less conflict. It's really the only day that I know I'm going to have to sacrifice some shit, and probably at least 3 of my top 10 shows will be compromised by conflict or partial conflict. As it is, I think I have 20 acts or so on Friday I want to see. Being able to mitigate some of that with earlier sets or catching the acts elsewhere will maybe ease the pain a little bit.
Tool - Not missing but will see them here in 2 weeks Bassnectar - Don't want to miss RTJ - Have them @ Buku and seen like 7-8 times already. Glass Animals Young the Giant - just saw and don't hate as much as everyone else does even though I don't listen to them or seek them out Megan Thee Stallion - Have her liking-to-get-eat ass at Buku Tipper - Seen 3x this month and don't want to miss Brittany Howard - Just saw at ACL Primus GWN Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Tukuaz (mitigated hopefully by an early show and I'm seeing them in New Orleans, not going to miss at Bonnaroo regardless) SVDDEN Death (have at Buku) Marc Rebillet Detox Unit Uncle A/C Resistance Revival Chorus (women power bitches) Luzcid Mdou Moctar Dynohunter
Damn, that really is 20 plus I'd see Wallows again, Yola, Atliens and Phutureprimitive. Friday is not going to work out in any kind of way. But if they put Turkuaz at 4:00 in the afternoon, at least that's out of the way.

Knowing you, you'll catch 13 minutes of every show.
LOL. Sometimes (like Prine last year), you gotta pay respects even if it's just for a song or two. I'll know better how it's going to work out once the schedule is released. Ideally Tool, Tipper, Bassnectar, Turkuaz and Pigeons won't conflict with one another. Primus is probably going to be a problem and conflict with Bassnectar or Tipper if they're on late night. If I can get all 6 of those in unconflicted, I'll be in good shape. Alternatively if Bassnectar and Tipper each get 90 minutes and say Primus does too and falls 45 minutes at the end of Bassnectar and 45 at the beginning of Tipper, I can make that work too.
It's all stupid speculation until the schedule comes out though. I have at least 2 festivals to go between now and then, so I can't be super worried yet about what I'm going to do Bonnaroo Friday.

Trying to listen to more of these Thursday acts... I wish 99 Neighbors had a more consistent sound. Some of their songs are pretty good but a lot of them are meeh. Liz Cooper & the Stampede is probably my most anticipated on Thursday.

Ripstick sounds like it'd be pretty fun live, but I fully agree not much has grabbed me on it yet.
I think Ezra Collective will probably be the best Thursday set, the sets they've put up on Youtube sound great

Big Something on Thursday feels like a umphree’s mcgee style group. The little bit of them I’ve listened to has sounded solid.
Finally going through Thursday bands. Agreed on the dopeness of Ezra Collective.
London is always a hotbed for jazz. They have so many good musicians come out of there. That’s a cool act to have, and it’s gonna be a good show. To ZIG’s point, Big Something is good live if you dig alternative, jam and funk. I only saw them once, but I liked it and will be there.

We may talk shit about Reddit but have y’all ever visited that Bonnaroo: A Loophole to Reality Facebook page? I joined it because they post funny festival and music memes time to time, but god the comments section on those posts are truly always trash. As if the name weren’t cringey enough lol.

This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Dynohunter as the first act of the day on Other would make me sad. That's pretty much the reason I missed Iglooghost this year. It makes sense based on their billing though.
