Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
The Opry last year was a big mixed bag. Ketch and Old Crow hosted it and knew how to liven it up for the Bonnaroo audience, but it was just really sleepy otherwise. The commercial breaks and some acts that didn't really fit really drug the energy down. It really picked up once Old Crow came on stage to take over towards the end though.

It's a radio broadcast so they have to do commercial breaks. It's usually the time when they switch out the sets for the performers. It's a LOT of down time and like Roo Bus said some of the acts just don't really fit Bonnaroo. Personally, I wish they'd do Live From Here instead.
Does anyone have some info on Grand Ole Opry from last year? Like what is it all about and who played?
I really dug the Opry last year, but Americana is kinda my bag. In addition to Old Crow, it featured Steve Earle & the Dukes, Ricky Skaggs, Molly Tuttle, Ashley Monroe, Riders in the Sky, Wendy Moten, and a couple others whose names elude me at the moment. I found it a nice way to ease into the weekend.
I would go Moving Pictures -> 2112 -> Permanent Waves - A Farewell to Kings -> Hemispheres to start you off. Then you're like a quarter of the way through!
So is there any possibility of wolfmother or battles being added to the lineup?
I would be thrilled with either
Battles doesn't join until July so it would probably be The Sword (who have played roo before). However, I don't see it happening. Have you seen all the guitars on this lineup??

This is reasonable. It's not exactly the way I'd go with it because Moving Pictures was relatively "commercial" and overplayed when I was in high school. But it's the album that made them zillions and still has great shit on it (YYZ, Red Barchetta). But even with Limelight and Tom Sawyer as outplayed as they were, it's still a cool album. This is not the way I'd rank their seminal albums, just how you can approach them from not knowing much about them. Caveat is that I didn't really listen to much of their stuff that came after Signals ('82) except a bit of Roll the Bones. So this basically is a list from when they were starting out and blowing up in the second wave of Progressive Rock bands who came on the heels of the OG ones (King Crimson, ELP, Genesis, Yes, etc.) and ignores maybe 9 or 10 of their later studio albums.
2112 Moving Pictures Caress of Steel Permanent Waves A Farewell to Kings
Some basic songs if you don't want to listen to albums front to back until you get some familiarity:
1) Bastille Day (Caress of Steel) 2) A Passage to Bankok (2112) 3) YYZ (Moving Pictures) 4) Spirit of Radio (Permanent Waves) 5) New World Man (Signals)
Anyway, those are sort of hits but not all really "hits". The first 3 are probably my favorite 3 Rush songs anyway excluding their Opus shit that usually takes up an album side or more and has multiple passages. Rush's biggest influence was probably Yes, and Yes made album side long songs and pioneered in staying as anti/non-commercial as possible. It wasn't for the masses, and neither are Rush Opuses. For those, the recommendations are:
La Villa Strangiato (possibly their most intricate work - Hemispheres)
Cygnus X-1 Book II Hemispheres (Hemispheres)
Cygnus X-1 Book I The Voyage (A Farewell to Kings)
2112 (2112)
The Necromancer (Caress of Steel)
The Fountain of Lamneth (Caress of Steel)
Just some recommendations you might check out if you have the time. In the end, only A Farewell to Kings actually matters for the Bonnaroo show since that's what they're playing.

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
