As someone who has never seen Primus before and recently got into them, I hope they don't do this and play Primus stuff
I understand wanting to see them do a bunch of Primus stuff for your first time seeing them. It looks like it's going to be a set of Primus and a set of Rush's A Farewell to Kings, so they'll probably get either 75 or 90 minutes to play. Ordinarily I'd say yeah, give me all the great Primus shit - My Name is Mud; Wynona's Big Brown Beaver; Southbound Pachyderm; Fish On; Jerry Was a Race Car Driver; Those D*mn Blue Collar Tweakers; Tommy the Cat; etc. But considering the work they're going to have to do to adapt AFTK to the stage; I'm all for that too. They usually change up a song or two every city, so once the tour starts in May and setlists are released, we'll know about how it's going to go down.

This week would be a good time for an interesting announcement. Feel like the momentum has dwindled significantly. Plaza Lineups or Late Nights would hold us over for a couple weeks.

Live Nation has reorganized its U.S. Concerts division, expanded some regional offices and made key promotions after fully acquiring AC Entertainment in Knoxville, Tenn., with which it has partnered since 2016. Current AC Entertainment President Ashley Capps will remain with the company and continue to play an important part in Bonnaroo, along with a number of other events he created. AC Entertainment Vice President Ted Heining becomes President of what will now be Live Nation’s Knoxville, Chattanooga and Asheville office, after more than 23 years with AC Entertainment. Prior to that, Heining was founder and CEO of artist management company 26.2.

Maybe so, but that's fan talk. It's been speculated they'll sell out in about 3-4 weeks time. So they don't really need a lot of momentum at this point IMHO. I'm not complaining about announcements though. They did put out that video on Monday that I got in an email. My friend Bobby is the dude with the captain's hat on pondering life or maybe where exactly he is at that moment knowing him.

Yeah I know sales are good, but I'd still prioritize keeping ticket holders excited as consistently as possible up until June. It know for one that it would help me lock in 2-3 friends that are on the fence if the group of people with tickets were talking about Roo more consistently.
Real talk tho, Closer to the Heart is such a pure, beautiful, and hopeful track and vocally challenging to boot. I can't imagine Les doing it justice with his peculiar style of singing, unless they do their own take on it i.e. Pure Imagination from the Chocolate Factory album

I hear you. But how many people here don't have one or more festivals between now and then by this point anyway? According to the countdown clock timer, it's still 113 days, 9 hours, 56 minutes and 15 seconds until Bonnaroo. They have lots to announce which they always do in their time. Then if they decide to put some coded puzzles in the shipping package, that's going to drive up interest significantly. That interest won't matter except for the fear of missing out people.
I don't have an extra, but I wonder how expensive online tickets can get on the secondary market if in fact it does sell out? I know people who only buy from Manchester locals and usually pay discounted prices. But if the market says those $225 tickets can sell for $325 or $425 in Tennessee, it's not like people aren't going to target to sell at those prices.

Yeah just once again I'm not saying the fest is going to fail if they don't put something out soon. I just think that it should be a goal to hold everyone's attention throughout the lead up. Just a slight amount of additional effort could accomlpish that . They already do a great job, but I usually notice that this time of year, every year, lags. And my friends start expressing some regret about purchasing tickets. You get things like, "I'm just not finding as much in the undercard this year as I did last year." I'd personally sprinkle an announcement in soon if I was in charge, but it isn't a big deal as you've mentioned.
There's tons of announcements on the way. Late night, plaza programming, comedy, all sorts of stuff. They're mainly working on a lot of planning and logistics right now.

Appreciate the insight here. As the Democratic candidates might say in response to them working on logistics, "we can walk and chew gum at the same time." It's very likely that the social / marketing team are not the same people working on the car parking strategy.
It is someone's job (probably multiple people) to hold our attention and keep us excited during the lead up to Bonnaroo. My point is that this week or next would be a good time for them to throw us a bone. One of those announcements that you've revealed are on the way. One should happen this week, next, or maybe one should have already happened in the last two weeks.
My feeling is that momentum naturally builds the closer you get to the fest as people truly begin planning. So announcements during that time aren't serving as great of a purpose as they would right now when people aren't thinking about Bonnaroo as much.
How would you time the announcements if it was your call? Does Bonnaroo do it perfectly? Is there a more ideal marketing strategy? This is the conversation I was trying to kickstart. This isn't a big deal in a good year, but it's at least worth the thought imo.
I think they do a good job keeping a steady stream of things coming. They just announced the Other lineup recently which generated good conversation.
Something that has changed in the last few years is that the community itself is generating a lot of content and conversation. Brad and Barry are doing a fantastic podcast, we're doing one and have some events in the works, Camp Reddaroo has two active promotions running right now, someone is planning a prom-themed party at Where in the Woods, and lots of other things are happening. AC has been good to include all of us in the conversations for fan-curated events that will be part of programming, that kind of stuff is part of the ongoing promotion and conversation too.

Eh, yes and no. There's some stand up in the camps, but obviously not to the extent that the Comedy Tent used to be. It's certainly not a priority anymore.

Well there certainly won’t be a separate comedy announcement
You had to go way out of your way last year to even know there was any at all
The amount of stuff happening in the plazas is overwhelming, it can be tough to know what's going on where. It's going to be even crazier this year with the new Groop Plaza that many of us are collaborating on.
The good news is that this year is a perfect storm of everything going right. I had a phone call last week with some of the AC people, they told me they're way ahead of schedule on things this year in terms of planning. Hopefully some of the extra time can help with the wayfinding and such that they want to tackle.
No offense to whoever it is "organizing" the event, but that prom thing is gonna be a wash. They couldn't even proofread the flyer correctly, so I'm doubting their commitment to it besides maybe a couple of reddit posts. So like maybe a dozen people show up? I hope they have fun and wish them luck, but literally no one outside of that bubble is going to care, there's no hype there. Plus, who wants to wear prom attire in Tennessee heat, or even relive prom at all. Reddit latches on to some weird stuff.
Shit, like 7/10 roovians I know don't even participate in reddit or facebook groups outside of organizing their immediate campmates. And they go most years and love Bonnaroo.
If those dozen people enjoy themselves, then great for them. I'd rather people make things fun happen than just shit on them for trying.
I agree and my tone is kinda harsh but that's also what I do. I guess my main point is that it isn't something anyone outside of that bubble is going to get hyped for without a lot more organization and effort. Just throwing out some posts like "meet in the blazing sun in long dresses and tuxedos!!" isn't going to do it.
I've known a couple people who organize semi-official events at fests and I know the effort and time it takes to put one on. So I have a feel for which ones will fizzle out and which ones won't.
Seriously though, there's a lot of younger kids who come to one of their first Roo's and realize that they can make something fun happen if they put the effort into it. Maybe something like the prom is a little silly, but I'm glad to see them give it a shot and I'll support them if I can.
