I love Mind Mischief so I can't say I'd be upset at it's inclusion, but they left it off their 2020 setlists, so I'm kinda shocked they played that (a 4th Lonerism song) over two of the biggest singles from The Slow Rush. Only reason I can think is that Tame hasn't felt those songs have gotten a great reception at the shows so far. Which tbf I never hear anyone talk about those songs as highlights in the set.
I'm now realizing the 6 songs they cut consist of 5 Slow Rush songs + the Skeletons cover.
I wish New Person wasn't like their 5th most popular song so they could feel like they could drop it from the set. I like the song, but because of its composition it has to be in a closing slot. They tried out Eventually closing in 2020 with an alternate outro and that felt really fresh and people seemed to love it. But New Person felt out of place being in the middle of the set. I'm just kind of tired of it as a live song, plus it's over 6 minutes long and not nearly as exciting as their other long songs like Let It Happen, Apocalypse Dreams, etc. At least at their own shows they finally have a new encore closer.
Finally decided to pull the plug and purchase the poster I really liked from this past year that didn’t happen. Tried to buy it and it was saying that it couldn’t complete my order and that the site was down. Anyone decide to preorder a poster or shirt or anything and have this issue?

Your mistake was trying to buy a poster for an event that didn’t happen

haha good one. But I decided to get one because I have gotten one every year and I even got the virtual Roo poster too so why not.
It might be possible we were overreacting about Tame Impala's LIB setlist. I noticed one song was added to the setlist (Runway, Houses, City, Clouds) so we might have been looking at an incomplete setlist. Also all of the reviews for that show were very positive
It’s all because of that damn Rihanna cover too. Pretty sure it wasn’t even in their sets before her version came out
Anti dropped on January 28, 2016 and the song's live debut was a day later. But of course, Tame rehearsed it in advance and they had no idea of knowing whether Rihanna's version would catch on.

Pretty certain Kevin was just hyped that Rhianna covered it regardless of how much it popped off. And honestly by Rhianna standards I don't feel like it was some major high point in her career. As far as the one day difference goes, I think that makes it MORE clear that Rhianna had a major impact on that song being a closer. They probably knew the song was coming and prepared for it.

Frankly, we're all overthinking this. Tame has a precedent with delaying certain live debuts, and I recall New Person being widely liked back in 2015 upon Currents being released.

It's not a bad setlist and 90 minutes of Tame is better than zero minutes, but it's still lame that such headliners have to cut their sets rather than play an equivalent length to their regular shows. Hell, fucking Foo Fighters got 2.5 hours for Roo so why can't other headliners.

I mean they would've had to clear the song w tames management to release it, I'm sure it wasn't a complete surprise

I really dont get why this is. Is this a cost thing? Like moreso, is it a Bonnaroo decision or a Tame decision

I think it is a cost thing, but honestly am not sure how it ties up. But it must be a negotiating thing as well, because bands like Metallica and Foo Fighters always demand at least two hours and end up getting it. Whereas other headliners either don't care or don't get their way with organizers.

I especially don’t get how it works for Tame because they were #1 on their day in 2020 so almost certainly would have gotten at least 90 minutes, potentially even 2 hours, so when they got moved to #2 on a different day and given less time in 2021, what were negotiations like for that?

There is no evidence to suggest tame was going to play 2 hours in 2020 lol

I'm sure it was still a great show and I would have loved it, I was more just really surprised at the lack of Slow Rush songs and the structure of the set.
Personally TSR may be my least favorite Tame album so I wouldn't be crushed by not seeing some of those live. They already weren't playing 2 of my top 3 from that album (On Track and It Might Be Time) and the other (One More Hour) I expected to be cut for festival sets. Though of course I'd still like to see songs from TSR in general since I haven't before.
If they did play both Expectation and Runway though that'd actually be really dope. Expectation isn't even a favorite of mine but it sounded massive and seemed like an absolute highlight during those 2020 shows, so I was disappointed to see it cut for this tour.
Almost seems they made a conscious decision to split the LIB set into Lonerism/Slow Rush then Currents/Innerspeaker.
If it makes anyone feel better. I’m seeing MMJ at ohana fest on Friday and their set length is 1 hour 15 minutes lol
I hope they stream it as they usually do with Ohana. I saw that Dave Navarro joined up with Jane's Addiction bandmate Chris Chaney (bass) and Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters to form a new band called NHC that will debut at Ohana. They released a couple songs this past weekend. Nothing earth-shattering but probably interesting live.
I’m all for some of The Waterfall II. It’d be a shame if they don’t open with Welcome Home...and I’d be into hearing the Run It, Magic Bullet, and Wasted run.
I was compelled to come back to the thread after seeing Jacket on Thursday, maybe the greatest set I've seen from them. Wasted was absolutely stunning. They played it in the middle of a six song encore and tagged the end of Run Thru onto it. They also broke out Feel You and Climbing the Ladder. New shit was fire.

Saw Jacket in Berkeley last night, holy shit. They’re the best they’ve ever been live. One Big Holiday opener!!!! The new songs sound amazing too. I’ll be disappointed if they don’t get a 3 hour late night redemption slot on the 2022 lineup.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

The band is just in good spirits, more than they have been in years. Jim isn't wearing sunglasses all show anymore. They're smiling and jumping around again. Idk what made the switch but I'm glad Jim has gone from writing words like "only memories remain" to "LOVE LOVE LOVE"

This tour does seem to be a bit more of a revitalized MMJ. The couple of shows I saw and the other setlists I read about look like they are firing on all cylinders again. I think they seem to like each other and Jim is more focused and having fun again so the shows have been pretty great.
Tame Impala's Firefly setlist is an improvement over LIB
