Are you tired of social distancing? Ready to kill the family if you have to stay one more day inside with those losers?
Come on down to the beach/pool/NASCAR race. We have just the thing for you. Hot sweaty bodies, packed together like sardines. Hot delicious junk food being served by maskless wait staff that may or may not have COVID-19. But hey, life’s a gamble, am I right? You do what makes you feel good. Worry about the repercussions in 14 days. Then those medical workers can take care of you. Because it’s their job.
I sincerely miss being able to get vegan pizza. Don't think that NY is so super liberal. I couldn't get a pizza that is in my dietary restrictions right now unless I took public transportation all the way into Manhattan. Asheville and Nashville also had good pizza places from my past interactions
Durham has some great vegan pizza options actually...but Asheville is Vegan Mecca of NC for sure

Just wanna chime in and say that Phoenix, being a big mix of everywhere with no real culture of its own (except the Mexicans), we've managed to turn that into some great pizza places. Pizzeria Bianco boasts the first pizza chef to win the James Beard award (it's really good, but the hype means long lines so not really worth it). and we're regularly listed as one of the best pizza cities in the country, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. So much of PHX is transplanted midwesterners, Canadians, and New Yorkers who can't afford Florida or CA, so we've got pretty authentic Chicago deep dish, NY thin, CA vegan crispy flatbreads, etc. PHX can do really good pizza and tacos. Could be worse.

I thought NASCAR races were no fans in the stands, for now

In rural NC, racing fans packed a speedway to defy governor in pursuit of ‘freedom.
I'm partial to New Haven style, when I can get my hands on it.
I know it's blasphemy but I don't care for the white clam pie though.
New Haven style is also my favorite. I grew up in the area, so there's nothing like Sally's or Pepe's or some of the other lesser known local gems.
And I actually agree with you on the white clam pie. Doesn't do it for me. My go to is pepperoni and mushroom.
Pepe's has been my go-to - though that's because of locations outside of New Haven. Also have been to Bar a few times and I think Modern once. Surprisingly never been to Sally's.
I do love a good pan pizza. When I was a teenager, my stepfather Ike worked at pizza hut. We'd eat free pizza and play mortal combat.
The last time I TRIED was at the worst pizza hut ever. We called it in, waited 30, went to pick it up and had to wait another 35 before they told us the were out. We never went back. That was 2003. They closed in 2009. It was the same pizza hut, btw. The difference of decades.
Wait a minute, the Pizza Hut was out of pizza?
Out of pan crust and I guess too lazy/busy/no fucks to make more.
I’m just loving all this Nc chatter. I’d say Asheville has em beat.
I'm not vegan, but always here for NC chatter (especially food.)
A little late, but my favorite pizza spot is a place called Miguel's, in Slade, Kentucky. It's in Red River Gorge, and doubles as a climbing shop. It's open seasonally (March-October), packed on weekends over the summer with a combination of climbers, hikers, and people from Lexington. They also do breakfast where you can get any of their pizza toppings in an omelette or breakfast burrito.

I feel like as an Alaskan, I have to mention Moose’s Tooth among all this pizza talk. It’s supposedly the highest-grossing single-unit independent pizzeria in the US. There’s always at least a 40-60 minute wait for a table no matter what (unless you happen to snag a seat at the bar) and they don’t deliver but it’s so worth the wait. They have a wide selection of gourmet pizzas and each one is so damn good.
From a Redditor who used to work there explaining what makes it so good, “They have a very good sauce recipe made daily with lots of raw garlic. The have a very good dough recipe. It's actually a bread recipe that includes milk. They use quality cheese, Grande 50/50 mozz/prov. Beyond that, they use a gas oven with a ceramic stone, 650F, which isn't unusual. But so many pizzeria chains have gone to conveyor ovens, which are foolproof but which produce very different baking results, that sometimes it's challenging to find places that bake the old way.”
If you ever come up to Alaska and ask for food recommendations, Moose’s Tooth is always the #1 answer and deservingly so. I’m being a homer by saying this but it’s by far the best pizza I’ve ever had and it would be very hard for any other place to top it.

Sounds good! Do you suppose the hot dry Phoenix air is good at killing the coronavirus? Maybe we should move Bonnaroo there!

the case for phoenix for BONNAROO:
-hot dry air maybe good at killing coronavirus -variety of good pizza options -snowmanomura lives there -access to monkey blood
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

I always thought that was Carboro?
I do loveeee me some Spotted Dog in Carrboro, but that's the only veg-centric restaurant in Carrboro. Some other restaurants are veg-friendly, sure, but nothing that compares to Asheville.
Laughing Seed is so damn good, as is Plant (both in Asheville). Ooh and Rosetta's Kitchen. I'm getting hungry...
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

When I was a vegetarian (93-05) Carrboro always showed up as a great place for vegan dining on lists and stuff but I was eating meat by the time I moved down there so I didn't pay much attention. Not vegetarian/vegan but I always had great meals at Elmo's Diner.
Only 73 deaths in New York state yesterday. It feels weird celebrating that, but given where we were, holy shit.
From 900 a day it's definitely a reason to celebrate even if it is 73 too many. I hope that we don't see it spike in the coming weeks.
From my anecdotal evidence a lot of the people here are still keeping up on the masks, which gives me hope that they see results happened from social distancing and PPE measures. I think most people want some type of measured re-opening, at least around here. That's more hope than I've had in awhile.
UTK announces plans for the fall. UTK is about 28k students at a public school in the South, so I would consider this the least of what you can expect at public universities this fall.

the dry heat really does nothing to the coronavirus. if anything, it would be safer to have it in Manchester.
you have to picture the droplets, if it's humid, the droplets are pushed to the ground and basically out of harms way much sooner than in the dry heat of Arizona.

Ya, I got a really vague email from Texas State saying there would be major changes, and to stay tuned. We're set at the moment to return to in person for Summer II, which starts July 6th.
Really hoping none of my classes are cancelled, or it will push back my graduation a semester or two. We shall see.
