There is no meaning to life, evil runs the world, and there's not much hope of things getting better before climate change kicks into overdrive. Life sucks, and then you die.
I'm surprised its not higher than 25% who have at least thought about it.
I'm also surprised more people haven't given up on the idea of having children.
It's definitely weighed in heavily on us most likely not having another.

For me it's really the sheer exhaustion of having two.

That too. I really love having a "triangle" family, honestly. But we considered having another for a while and then all hell broke loose and it seemed way out of the question.

I swear to Christ, the science reporting in the American news media is hot, steaming garbage.
You're all going to see a bunch of news stories saying "CDC SAYS POST-INFECTIOUS IMMUNITY LASTS ONLY 3 MONTHS!!!"
I encourage everyone to read deeper. What the CDC is saying is that immunity lasts at least 3 months, and that further study is required to determine if it lasts any longer.
I don't even know how to deal with this shit, any more. As a journalist, it drives me right up the fucking wall.
EDITED TO ADD ADDITIONAL CONTEXT: A paper was posted just yesterday (pre-print, admittedly, but it was linked to by Florian Krammer at Mt. Sinai, one of the leading American voices in SARS-CoV2 research, so I think that carries some weight) that indicated humoral immune response was robust in even mildly symptomatic individuals for *at least* 6 months.
There's still so much to learn about how this all works.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount 9/13 - Lucius/The War on Drugs/The National @ Forest Hills 9/19 - Stars @ Music Hall of Williamsburg

It is veryyyyy frustrating. I'm still pissed that early on they said kids basically couldn't get it and also that young/healthy people shouldn't be concerned. Super irresponsible reporting! Also they need to curate headlines more responsibly, especially knowing that's all some people read these days.
But how valuable is the data if antibody tests are kind of hit or miss with accuracy
They've gotten better but they're still not perfect. Some places may ask you to test twice if you're first came back negative. Regardless, getting more people tested actually helps with the accuracy of reports because it's easier to estimate false positives/negatives with a bigger pool of results. I always encourage anybody to get either test if it's available to them.
Got an email tonight and checked my test result - negative. Somehow the girl with the nasty symptoms and presumptive diagnosis hasn't gotten a result yet, even though she was tested a day earlier.
Two more people at work are officially quarantined. One's SO caught it, and the other was with them because they're family. Another cook quit, apparently. I've only been off for four days and I'm dreading going back to work Monday because it's sure to be a shit show.

For a quick vent: A friend posted about wanting masks to be over because they get a migraine within minutes every time they wear one. Immediately, a Greek chorus comes in of people complaining of the same symptoms plus hospitalization level panic attacks everytime they put one on. Also, some discussion of how someone said something to one of them about not wearing a mask in a store and was rude about it. Why are mask people so rude? Breathing recirculation oxygen lowers your ability to fight infections over time. It's unfortunate because the friend is willing to do the right thing even with the migraines but you can see how the slide to the dark side happens with this kind of reinforcement.

I am straight up rude to those without their face covered. There is no excuse to risk someone else's health because of your discomfort. We're rude because we don't want to get sick, ya dummy.
I have asthma and wear one without issues. These people need to get over it.
Also, if they complain about the fit/comfort tell them that you have the wrong mask and send them to me. 😂
My dad sent me some bullshit and it tried to simultaneously claim that masks were ineffective at stopping COVID particles/water droplets (not even really the point which I'd explained before) but limited the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Guess which of these molecules is ~200x the size of the other two. At that point I just couldn't be bothered to respond. Embarrassing.

Update: Nevermind. She's lost to the dark side already. Another unfollow for the pile. I have also come to the realization that we may be the softest country in the world in addition to being the dumbest one.

I'm starting to seriously question if all the people in my life really didn't walk both ways uphill in the snow back in their days.

Americans are all talk on the outside and pudding on the insides. So many act like they're put up or shut up, but can't ever back their put up.

I grew up mostly with my grandparents. My grandfather got his first job at 7 carrying ice blocks up stairs for apartment buildings in the 30s. My grandmother started life helping harvest tobacco in western North Carolina when she was less than 10. They were not people who you questioned on how hard life was. Haha.

And they all have gotten soft in their old age. Sitting on their asses, watching COLOR TV and getting used to creature comforts. All while calling their grandkids to fix their computers and phone because the technology is just too darn smart and I can't keep up.

abrakapokus can verify my grandmother never got soft.
