Took my drive through test Wednesday afternoon. Quick and easy, self-administered, and I was told I only needed to go in an inch with the the Q Tip-style swab. The leaflet says it's LabCorp's nucleic acid amplification test, so that's a reliable molecular/PCR test, right?
The girl I mentioned who probably has it texted me saying she felt terrible today and had a rash in her mouth. Google told us that's a rare but not unheard of COVID symptom. I begged her to call a professional for a phone or video exam, and to go to the hospital or otherwise call for help if she feels like she can't breathe. My boss said he isn't worried and isn't doing anything, because without a positive test, "It could be anything." Yeah, right, dude. If she does have it, a lot of people were surely exposed to it.
Mizzou coming in hot with some COVID rules, saying “Make no mistake: Students who intentionally disregard expectations regarding baseline behaviors will be subject to the conduct process. We will not hesitate to take disciplinary actions, up to and including suspension or expulsion.”
Honestly surprised there haven't been more companies that take a firm stance on safety. Seems like it would be killer PR
Supposedly the film industry here is taking safety seriously, but we also have a union that is fighting for those rights. Masks are mandatory, weekly rapid result testing and limited personal. I didn't get called, but my boss is calling 8 people to start next week I am guessing that is in part to the limited personal. Honestly, I am mildly relieved, because I would like to see how this actually goes down before going back to work.

From my limited experience last month, people weren't taking protocols seriously enough, they started hiring in another AD who started to take things seriously. A day later we found out talent was sick and we had to cancel all according shoot days with sound. It's going to be a maze no matter what, especially with rapid testing being not available easily/these companies have to start supplying access to them to make this work.
I unfortunately think we are more likely going to end up in a middle ground like restaurants doing outdoor dining.
We'll have productions capable of sustaining some social distancing and protocols with outdoor sets mostly, and then bare bones crews for indoor productions (limiting the pool of work for some). Also a higher case of documentary work that needs smaller crews; but once we get back into more narrative work - self-testing and the honor system are gonna end up being part of it.

At a senior leadership town hall today, they stated that they've ceased evaluating the continuation of work from home on a biweekly basis and instead changed the status to "until further notice". We all took that to mean we ain't hitting the office anytime soon.

It is something I feel very fortunate about. They spoke about how they were doing it for the safety of the workforce and that our positive cases were almost nonexistent whereas other parts of the organization where more face to face contact was necessary were getting hit. Some people's responses were still like, "yeah but when can we stop doing this?" like leadership were being assholes by reducing their risk. I did appreciate the response that it would be as long as needed to keep people safe and neither them nor anyone else on the planet could put a timetable to that.

There is no meaning to life, evil runs the world, and there's not much hope of things getting better before climate change kicks into overdrive. Life sucks, and then you die.
I'm surprised its not higher than 25% who have at least thought about it.
I'm also surprised more people haven't given up on the idea of having children.

Bunny Lebowski: Uli doesn't care about anything. He's a Nihilist.
The Dude: Ah, that must be exhausting.
But seriously, please don't kill yourself. Taking a break from news/social media for a few weeks helps. As does looking forward to the return of live music, which I suspect is a huge escape for most of us.

So is this is really good news. They did a study on blood from donors:
"Of note, we detected cross-reactive T cell responses against spike or membrane in 28% of the unexposed healthy blood donors, consistent with a high degree of pre-existing immune responses potentially induced by other coronaviruses."

so that's pretty wild. obligatory caveat of this is only one study, more will be revealed, etc., but would be great if almost a 1/3rd of the population already has some immunization against covid-19 even without being exposed to it. would help explain those anecdotal stories of the one person in a family who never tested positive despite caring for those who are sick.

I'm not suicidal, I'm just incredibly pessimistic.
On another board I was on, I had the nickname Pessy for being in such a negative place all the time.
